Yes, because we all remember how well privatizing the power companies in California did.

I'm still amazed that Dolph Lundgren has a doctorate in chemical engineering, is a two time European martial arts champion, and can act well enough to land film rolls. (Acting is so much harder than you think it is). He reportedly has an IQ of 160. The dude from Rocky IV. "I must break you." Genius athlete actor. Still have a hard time accepting it.

Sky diving? Walk in the park. Fighting crowing wildland fires with nothing but a shovel? Did it for fun. This bridge? Hells no.
  • Comment on Clash of the Titans Remake (2009-12-30 02:49:51)
I'd argue that this doesn't need a remake, but what do I know?

I lived in the red woods my entire childhood. It's weird to take for granted something that just blows other people's minds.

Well, the metric defines the argument. From a market standpoint, non-Mac PCs dominate, by a margin that's ludicrous. (Macs are PCs, but it's become a dichotomic colloquialism that I begrudgingly use). From a purely democratic, voting with your dollar, point of view, PCs are massacring Macs. 96.64% -vs- 3.36% Stocks are a whole 'nother sport. In fact, I'd say it's more like comparing football with quidditch. Microsoft's stocks, for example, have been split 9 times since their inception. This means the initial value of one share is around 9.7 cents. Given that it's now trading ~$30, that's 29,000% on the return investment. Apple's stocks have split 3 times, making their initial value around $1. With their current price of ~$191, that's a %19,000 return on investment. Very good, but both these only take into account initial investments. Apple stocks made most of their gains from 2003-2007. So you could theoretically have made an investment in 1997 for ~$3.50 and still get a 19,000% return. All moot, but fun to demonstrate, because stocks are not equivocal in quantity. There are many ways you can argue both Microsoft and Apple "win" by stocks, but only through egregious reductionism and simplification of a complex argument can you say Apple "wins" because their stock prices are currently higher per stock, regardless of quantity or stock history. As for the *QUALITY* of their product, well... we've been down this road before, haven't we? ;)

Straw man. No one is presenting the argument here that Mac or PC is better, simply that one is winning the marketplace. The logic you are making fun of is being ascribed by you, by your personal bias or defensiveness. Even then, the comparison isn't apt. Toyota is more like Dell or Gateway, with the standardized motor components required in the U.S. being the operating system (in this case, Windows). The same standardization that reduces prices, and helps consumers. Ferrari would be a good comparison, except it's such a small part of the market, and even then it's a performance machine. Ferrari would be more like upper tier Alienware, if it was more exclusive. The best comparison for an Apple computer, using your analogy, would be... an AvtoVAZ from the Soviet Union. Except even then the Soviets didn't have a complete monopoly on it's sale & distribution. If you want to get into Mac -vs- PC again, reboot, I'll be your huckleberry.

3.36% market share worldwide. 7.49% market share United States. 91% market share of $1,000+ PCs sold in the United States. Apple - More proof Americans will spends thousands more to have less features in a prettier package. See also: Abercrombie & Fitch
  • Comment on The Pill kills babies!! (2009-12-05 03:04:46)
What's truly funny is that this is the same as saying that every time a woman has her period, she's a murderer, because she didn't inseminate. Oh, religion. I love thee. From your batshit crazy to your centuries & centuries of torture and murder.

Ah, good. I was worried there for a second. Because, y'know, the average IQ is on such a steady incline, that the average of 100 has to be constantly reset every few years. http://www.indiana.edu/~intell/flynneffect.shtml Glad to see your program of systemic annihilation is already in effect.
  • Comment on Obama Punch (2009-11-24 21:05:50)
Maybe because I didn't grow up as a rich, privileged, cokehead cheerleader from Connecticut with a famous father, but I never got George W. Bush's "everyman" vibe. Obama, however? I can identify with a basketball playing, Spider-Man comic collecting, pot smoking, camera jabbing guy who had to make his own way in the world.
  • Comment on Windows 7 - Almost a Mac (2009-11-23 22:26:14)
Looks like someone threw Rainmaker on Windows 7, increased the size of all the tertiary taskbar icons, along with... damn, something like 3 different ObjectDock like programs. It's like taking two different models of cars, then throwing 3 sets of spinners, garish paint, & a purple window tint on one while calling the other better. It's a silly strawman argument.
  • Comment on Potential Tax Revenue from Marijuana Production (2009-11-23 01:22:43)
@hairy_testicles Yes, Amsterdam is trying to stop tourists from being able to purchase marijuana... or, more correctly, the 3-5% of the population that moved there in the last 20 years on a crusade to end moral decay in Amsterdam. My fiancée is Swiss. I'm going back to Europe in less than a few weeks, and just like every trip, I'll probably go to Amsterdam. There, like always, I'll have the same experience, except for maybe that one lone person standing on the corner handing out flyers trying to criminalize marijuana in Amsterdam. The same lone person that everyone kind of looks at sadly. "Yes most drug dealers will be looking else where for the lost income, hence more crime." LOL. That is... wow. Sorry, I guess I should have read the second part before responding. My mistake. I didn't realize you were one of those people. I've sold pot. I now own my own business. My college roommate sold pot. He was head of the advertising team for Modern Warfare 2. You're right though, if we weren't doing that, we probably would have beat up old ladies so we could have enough money to inject bleach into our balls. LMFAO. I seriously almost spit beer out my nose when I read that. Now, you'll have to excuse me. I'm going to go grind up some kittens and snort them. Heh.
  • Comment on Carl Sagan Quote on Marijuana (2009-11-22 18:57:32)
Is this Carl Sagan day? I've been seeing him all over the web in the last 8 hours. Not that it's a bad thing. The man is awesome.
