An American company trying this would say, "If you went from five workdays to four and were more productive, then you must have been slacking on the five day a week schedule.     The corners force people to slow down *before* they get to the intersection. The alternative - I could see someone *attempting* to go from 70 mph (our local highway speeds) to 0 mph on a downhill exit ramp... in the rain... at night... probably in a rusted out car with brakes that don't work... People are stupid, sometimes they need a little help.

Now I will spoil it just to spite you, and because Tiki asked. In the book, the price of war was the death of her sister, fire scarring and losing both of her love interests. The one was brainwashed to kill her, and even after the war was over couldn't stand to be near her. She basically goes back to an empty life with her sister's cat that she hated. It definitely wasn't the ending you expected, but was completely realistic. In the movie, he was just "confused" and the ending was her looking lovingly at her husband and child at sunset in a lovely hay field. ...

    That is sooo funny. My daughter was sooo pissed when they changed the ending from the book to the film to make it more "Hollywood". The film's ending was rosier!

    It is! I picked up a rebound version of this book in a second-hand bookstore in San Antonio, TX in 1987. Love that book.
