@Annarchy: The trouble there is that the piss test is not a sobriety test, it checks to see if you have smoked within the past 30 days. If he smoked every weekend night, but never once went to work high, he would have still been fired. Assuming that in that instance, the injury would have been a normal, sober workplace accident.

Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it. @nyokki: I can totally understand there being a case for it if he was intoxicated or impaired from alcohol or illegal narcotics when he fell. However, if he pisses dirty because he smoked a bowl 3 weeks ago, that's total bullshit. I have a feeling it would be much harder to press that same issue with rx drugs, I could even see the chance of a counter-suit there. That's what I mean about abusing the drug laws. Using someone's evening relaxation hobby as an excuse to write write off responsibility for injury is just ridiculous. - Comment on River Street Savannah (2008-12-31 14:18:38)
And the massive cockroaches that live off of the starch from the paper mill. @Hazard: College of Art & Design, by any chance? - Comment on Hypocrisy IS the greatest luxury (2008-12-31 13:36:48)
@nyokki: Also, there is potential for abuse of drug legality issues when recreational drugs are illegal. For example, a friend fell this morning on a slick patch of snow in his employer's parking lot. Company policy: As soon as he leaves the emergency room, he has to go get piss-tested. If any illegal narcotics show up, they waive responsibility for his injury and fire him. Nice, huh? He does phone support for Time Warner. - Comment on Hypocrisy IS the greatest luxury (2008-12-31 13:33:10)
@nyokki: I had at least 2 teachers who were functioning alcoholics during grade school/high school. I don't see how it would be any different if marijuana was legal. If you show up to work anything but sober, you should get shit-canned. - Comment on River Street Savannah (2008-12-31 13:29:10)
Honestly, one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Spanish moss hanging from every tree, little roundabouts with parks, big plantation houses. I was staying in a friends apartment, just down the block from Bob Vila's house. I had a good time down by the river there. That photo just gave me a massive flashback, standing in that exact spot 14 years ago... - Comment on Greek Riots (2008-12-30 22:02:51)
Also, a quick question to our members from the US. How many of you saw any coverage of this at all on the evening news? - Comment on Greek Riots (2008-12-30 21:58:43)
@LukeV1-5: I find your question odd. Did you think I was trivializing the situation? I think that what is happening there is seriously fubar. However, these people aren't 'protesting because of economic decline'. Saying it that way makes it seem like they are burning the country to the ground because of a recession. The situation was a powder keg. This is serious shit here, people who have been pushed to the limit and finally the dam broke. The last uprising was to boot a junta regime. This time, the elected officials have made a mockery of democracy, but the people remember what they need to do to get the world to pay attention. I'm not taking sides here. I'm just trying to illustrate how messed up the situation is, from all angles. The police need to be seriously commended, also. If this was happening here in the states, you wouldn't see any pictures of the police getting firebombed and not massacring everyone involved. People would be getting shot, tased, dragged off & beaten. So anyway, to sum up... no I don't think that complete anarchy is a good thing. There are innocent people suffering greatly. Many of the people on the streets are just looking for an excuse to break & steal as much shit as possible. Some of them are doing it in hopes that the rest of the world will notice, and help to correct the problems that are so prevalent there. Some of them want to see their leaders run out of town on a pole. Me? I've been blessed enough to not have to live through something like that. I can only hope that there is something brighter on the other end of that tunnel. - Comment on Greek Riots (2008-12-30 20:14:39)
@LukeV1-5: Economic decline? Not quite. The Greek Government has had scandal after scandal for quite a long time now. I don't mean like blowjob scandal, either. I mean like millions of dollars being embezzled, total misappropriation of tax dollars, and about a thousand other things to give the people absolutely no confidence in their elected leaders. This was coming, teenager getting shot or not. This is what happened back in the 70's, and the infrastructure and govt. was rebuilt from the ground up, for the better. Let's just hope the new deal lasts longer than 25 years this time. For a closer look at how absolutely bat-shit crazy the scene there is, have a look here: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/12/2008_greek_riots.html 37 pictures that stopped me in my tracks. - Comment on Christmas Lookout House (2008-12-24 12:02:24)

You know, I've been trying not to care about this, as I'm not really a Star Trek fan anyway. However, it is quickly becoming apparent how awesome it's going to be... - Comment on Left 4 Dead (2008-12-22 17:35:06)

Hells to the yes. Reminds me of the folks who would have 4 TVs set up in their basements for Halo LANs on the first-gen XBox. Honestly though...4 campaigns, 2 versus maps. All we got. And yet I still play this game constantly. I can't wait for some DLC. Even on the same maps, versus is always dynamic and exciting. Getting that rib-shattering pounce with a hunter from 3 stories up, catching the straggler at the last possible moment with a smoker, or hitting RB while spewing as a boomer to turn yourself into a lawn sprinkler after dropping in between all 4 survivors. It never gets old! - Comment on Left 4 Dead (2008-12-22 15:00:03)
Valve has promised info on updates will be available very soon. For 360 as well as PC. Sit tight, we're being accommodated! In the meanwhile, I suggest getting 4 xboxes system linked and sitting down with 7 of your best friends for some serious fun. We do split-screen LANs every weekend and it's incredible. You know it's fun when we all lug our flatscreen TV's, XBoxes, hubs, cables, and snacks over to our buddy's house once a week in the middle of a snowstorm. If anyone wants to play a campaign or versus with me, I'm on after 9pm almost every night. Gamertag is Suicyd King. - Comment on Puffer Fish (2008-12-19 13:14:40)
