Attention span isn't the problem. It's that those issues are really fundamentally difficult to fix. There is no clear path to making incremental progress on the those issues. And any sudden, radical changes carry substantial risk of making things worse than they already are. It's easy to complain about problems; its hard to implement solutions.

If you incur debt getting a PhD, you're seriously doing something wrong. Any reputable university will basically pay you to get a PhD through teaching and/or research.

Your comment is not going to be popular around here, but you're absolutely right. At they're best, most martial arts are just a way to get some exercise. If you're ever in a fight, it helps to be in shape. But beyond that they're not going to help you any more than any other exercise regime.
