Writing a GUI front end for the algorithms I developed during my PhD work. Kinda crappy work, but since you can't patent algorithms, its the only way I'm going to make any money off of my research.

I'm glad that whole "exploring space" fad is over. - Comment on Internet Argument BINGO (2011-08-09 19:14:39)
I've been guilty of using the "Bye now-- I have a life" line. But when I've wasted a Friday afternoon arguing with someone on the internet, I don't want to give them the satisfaction of thinking they've won just because I'm taking off for happy hour. - Comment on Lincoln Memorial (2011-08-08 18:25:22)
Truman, Eisenhower and Roosevelt don't quite measure up to Lincoln. They get points for conquering sovereign nations and convincing history that it was morally justified. But Lincoln was the most successful at permanently integrating conquered territory into the Empire. Not just the Confederation either, he was also one of the drivers of increased occupation in the Western territories that were still on shaky grounds in terms of US jurisdiction. - Comment on Lincoln Memorial (2011-08-08 16:54:45)
The greatest American Emperor. - Comment on US Pirate Flag (2011-08-05 23:25:24)
Agreed. It's been demonstrated that an small computer glitch can dramatically disrupt the stock market. I've been thinking about what a well-placed explosively pumped magnetic flux compressor (ie EMP bomb) would do. - Comment on US Pirate Flag (2011-08-05 20:10:12)
IEDs seem to be pretty effective weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan, but going head-to-head with the military still would be difficult. The real power in the US is the corporations and any organized resistance would do well to go after that. There's all kinds of project Mayhem type stuff that an organized group could pull off. I'm tempted to go into details, but I'd rather not end up on a watch-list. - Comment on How to get a girlfriend (2011-07-26 17:46:54)
First question: where do you live? I've found that the type of girls I meet is extremely dependent on the type of city I was living in. The smart/independent girls are not going to stick around in Poorhick, NE. At the first chance they get, they're going to move to college towns and big cities. And not just any big city. If a girl considers herself to be smart and independent, she's probably a bit of a liberal/feminist, so she going to move to a city like New York or the Bay area. - Comment on Nazis (2011-07-25 20:55:34)
My grandfather died in a concentration camp.... he fell out of the guard tower. - Comment on bestest job (2011-07-24 14:24:30)
Being an astronaut is generally considered one of the worst jobs in science. You have to spend years doing work that's a combination of training for a triathlon and getting a double PhD. Then you only have a 1 in 10 chance of actually going to space for a few days. - Comment on sinners (2011-07-22 17:34:23)
Read the New Testament, again. It doesn't use the "bigot" because that word wasn't introduced into English until after the KJV was translated, but Jesus says a lot of specific things about hypocrites and judging other people. - Comment on me VS you VS whoever (2011-07-15 01:49:52)
It seems like a cognitive dissonance when people are cheerleading for Linux but hate on Mac. OSX is just a UNIX OS with a nicer GUI, but you can still pull up Terminal and do anything that's possible with Linux. - Comment on World of Ice and Fire (2011-07-13 16:43:37)
I read on the Internet that Westeros is supposed to about the size of South America, but the book is all kinds of crazy when it comes to geography. I remember there is a some part where someone says its 10,000 leagues from the Wall to Dorne. That would mean that Westeros alone is longer than the entire circumference of Earth. Then there's another point where someone says that its a 1000 leagues from the shore to Winterfell, which would mean that the North alone is twice the size of North America. And somehow ravens are faster than email. Geography is not the strong suite of the series. Dirty sex is the strong suite of the series. - Comment on rating women (2011-07-07 04:39:57)
In my experience, most guys are consistent in ranking 1-6 girls. But ranking 7-10, its all pretty subjective.
