It does come down to responsibility and safety. I had my own gun before i had a pocket knife, as a child, and I still havent shot myself 15 years later. Nor have I shot anyone else, on purpose or on accident. It is a great deterrent and a fun, reliable tool. Guns are not the problem, guns were never the problem and guns will never be the problem. As for your shootings in the home statistics: bollocks. Link something or it is useless crap. And no, the government cannot take my guns. The moment I die, they cease to be mine, so i'll always be in posession of them. If the government becomes so corrupt as to attempt to restrict my rights as a gun owner, then that becomes the moment that I will gladly shoot back.

I don't see any serious rifle rounds on the chart, so the .223 (although it can come in a pistol) was probably left off due to the fact that it is normally a rifle variant. Although some of those handgun loads I'd fear a LOT more than some rifles, like a .44 magnum over a .17 HMR. However, .44 mag vs .303 british or a 30-06 hot load? Depends on the range and if the damn thing's pointed at me.
