"Nevermore" - What's going to happen to the Falcons tonight in the Georgia dome! - Comment on Anatomy of a Creeper (2010-10-10 17:31:49)
It's a sandbox game. You basically use the environment to build things. There used to be several versions of the game, classic/survival, indev, infdev, and now Alpha. Alpha is what is being maintained, and it pretty much has all the other things the previous games had. Basic gist is, if you don't change the difficulty setting to "Peaceful", then you have to build a home/fortress/base during the day to hide from the monsters that come out at night (which include arrow-shooting skeletons, spiders, zombies, and the above creeper). Creepers don't make any noise when they are near you (unlike the other enemies in the game). So in the above youtube link, the creeper just walked right up to the player and before he could react, self-detonated. If you play the game in Peaceful mode, you basically just explore/mine/build stuff. You might run into a slime at random, due to a de-spwaning bug, but that mode mimics the old Creative mode. The whole point? Use your imagination. Each generated world is yours to do whatever you want with (in single player). In multiplayer, same thing, just with friends. Although griefers can come and spoil your fun if you don't watch the server. - Comment on Synthol fiend (2010-09-25 01:31:14)
I'm afraid not even the fire of a thousand suns could kill that. - Comment on pink is for girls (2010-09-08 21:51:44)
I wonder if anyone told her about the nice 48V charge running on that phone line before she got in the barrel... - Comment on the trustworthiness of beards (2010-08-09 23:24:02)
Picture link is wrong. Goes to the unreadable thumbnail. Here's the larger version: http://www.myconfinedspace.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/the-trustworthiness-of-beards.jpg - Comment on library slope (2010-06-09 03:36:13)
"If you replace libraries with servers, where do those children go?" Porn sites. Once they figure out how to backdoor & disable the filtering software. - Comment on Iowa kicking ass (2010-06-06 16:03:52)

PS, the painting is apparently called "Son of Man": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rene_magritte#In_popular_culture - Comment on Apple shot (2010-05-05 00:55:25)
So Modern Marvels ran an episode on Ben Franklin the other night, and in it was a blurb about one of his many creations, the Glass Harmonica. So I go and do some youtubing, and come across an old (~1968) Russian animation that involves a glass harmonica-like device, and has as its nemesis, a man in a suit with a hat very much one in the painting. But I forgot what the color of the tie was that this man wore, and didn't know if they were related. So I look it up again, and to my dismay, find out that I was mistaken. So I click on one of Youtube's recommended links to watch another Russian video. And found the above. It's a painting of some kind by one Rene Magritte, and the video that had it is here (skip to 4:39): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghA8E79Vz08 Totally random find, but I had a hunch that the individual getting hit with the apple looked oddly like the MiB from the other Russian animation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EfZtSaC0kY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIFYdvmp8ZQ - Comment on lipless lipstick (2010-04-14 02:18:24)
Is it out of the ordinary to have first thought of the Protoss before anything else upon seeing this picture? - Comment on star wars concept art - y wing (2010-03-28 19:43:55)
They're not for space. B-Wings are atmospheric-capable, so those are there as stabilizers when it enters a planet's atmosphere. Ditto for most of the other Rebel craft. - Comment on star wars concept art - y wing (2010-03-28 19:32:05)
And the Verpine, with their base-twelve mathematics, chipped in, too. - Comment on star wars concept art - y wing (2010-03-28 16:41:08)
This is an early design drawing. Yes, those fighters ultimately became known as the Slayn & Korpil B-Wing, but only after a lot of refinement, such as the gyroscopic cockpit and the folding wings were later added in (plus some smoothing of the fighter's profile). - Comment on Shuttle prep (2008-11-17 02:48:21)
