@ tiki god: I am an atheist, but this whole issue is a fucking ruse. It's a distraction. Atheism will do very little to nothing to cure society of it's ills, and being an atheist is in no way a sign that someone is 'grown-up'. Our societal problems stem as much from apathy, cynicism and hubris as they do from clinging to ancient fairy tales; getting rid of the fairy tales doesn't get rid of the other problems. And the idea that Religion (in it's strictest sense) is needed to make good people do bad things...this is plainly absurd. Any ideology that subordinates the value of a single human life to some idea ('the common good', 'racial superiority', etc) will make good people do bad things. For a shattering exploration of how totally non-religious mass psychology in Stalinist Russia made good people do bad things, I recommend Solzhenitsyn's 'The Gulag Archipeligo'. Some say Stalinism was unto a religion...this is wrong, it was ideology, though 'tis true that ideology is very compatible with religious dogmas.

I can completely understand why some didn't like this movie. But I fucking LOVED IT!!! It is one of those movies though, that understandably divides opinions. And I'm not a fan of the graphic novel. I never heard of it til the movie.

@dieAntagonista You see, I hear about shit like that, happening in like Alabama and whatnot. Except I went to high school at a Franciscan Christian school. We had RE and sometimes had to go to mass. A couple of kids were quite religious, a couple of the teachers were. But, no there was never any creationism, never anything really forcefully shoved down my throat. So I guess I just can't relate the same way that some, especially in America, can to the really rabid evangelical dogma.

@dieAntagonista Yeah, I'm an atheist. And I'll come right out and say, I believe there is no God. I can't prove it, it's a believe. I get annoyed at atheists that wear themselves (and everyone else) insisting that they ONLY apply scientifically rigorous standards to their own whatever, and oh how they can go on. Look, fuck you long-winded technicality-obsessed atheists: I believe there is no God. I can't prove it, I can't disprove it. Same goes for those who do believe.
