The two concepts in question are free will and responsibility for one's own actions. Two things in ever shorter supply nowadays.

Just when I thought all hope was lost, your all sanity saves the day. Thank you.
  • Comment on Ricky Gervais on being an atheist (2010-06-08 16:17:08)
I am so sick and tired of this. There is no burden of proof because there is nothing to prove. You either believe or you do not. I force no one to follow my beliefs, and good luck trying to force me to believe something I do not want to. This is where the matter ends. If you are an atheist, this is your own deal. If there was definitive proof there would be no need for faith now wouldn't it?

All I have to say is that it is a fate of those societies who finght a religion to one day be the staunchest base of said religion. I.e. Christians and Rome. Those characteristics that you pointed ot for Islam are alas the belief of a fraction of a fraction. If you would like, just for the Lullz, read some Qur'an, and decide for yourself. It's not like it will kill you or anything to try. And for the record people are allowed to leave Islam, there is no coercion in Islam, otherwise it is not true belief. That does not stop some idiots from killng people, just as the modern laws do not stop people from honor killing their sisters or mothers or whatnot for looking at men.

God hears prayers everywhere. We Muslims turn to Meca for the sake of unity, not because it is some kind of a prayer hub.

Alas, how short a collective memory span we have. He is trying to stop the tcunami that hit this country. This in turn is an allusion to a danish king who tried to do the same thing, a.i. order the tidest to stop on his command. I think they are making either a profound statement about the limitation of even our superheroes, or it could be that kiddy sex thing.

Here is a direct Wikipedia quote: "Borlaug's discoveries have been estimated to have saved over one billion lives worldwide." Found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Borlaug

@actionbowman - That is only presuming that another Norman Borlaug doesn't come around again. Like Newton said, he was not alone in his discovery, but he did it standing on the shoulders of giants. Who knows what the future brings, and people have been projecting starvation doom since Malthus, but for now, I can tell you from first hand, when you are starving you could give a rat's a$$ about some future starvation.

Ka'ba is not about the building, it is about the fact that every Muslim, well over 1 300 000 000 turn towards it and pray to God. If that is not enough to inspire awe, than my feiend your awe is all out.
