The Mustang II was built from 1974-78. During the “MALAISE ERA” of car design. The II was underrated. Yes, it had horribly low horsepower. (I dated a chick who had one with a 302 in it, and it was quick enough to get into traffic).

The Mustang II front end has been used on hundreds of hot rods. Possibly thousands. Rack and pinion power steering, and disc brakes made it very popular. And it was very functional. They cut off the end of the frame and welded it onto their projects.

If you put an engine with horsepower in one, you have a pretty decent car. They are just now coming into their own as a collectible and can still be obtained at a reasonable price. My friend built one for his daughter to drag race, and she’s running mid 11 second quarter miles in it. And that is FAST. Maybe 120mph in the quarter mile.

They had some pretty cool models; the KING COBRA and the COBRA II were the best of them all.

I remember those Cobra II’s.

I used to own a convertible 84LX, the shitty foxbox style with a shitty tiny engine in it. I loved the car for the freedom it gave me, but by the time I got it the rag top was more rags than top and every time it rained I got wet. My mom fixed it for me before I went off to college (the first time), but you can imagine how great it was in the Florida sun!
