“Babylon 5” Review

Babylon 5: Created by J. Michael Straczynski. With Mira Furlan, Richard Biggs, Stephen Furst, Andreas Katsulas. In the mid 23rd century, the Earth Alliance space station Babylon 5, located in neutral territory, is a major focal point for political intrigue, racial tensions and various wars over the course of five years.

With a new movie out (“The Road Home”) I figured I’d check out my purchased copy of B5 on Vudu, but then I remembered that they refused to upgrade it to HD when I had purchased it just days before the HD version dropped, so instead I ended up watching this one lunch period at a time on Tubi, which didn’t end up being as bad of an experience as I was thinking it was going to be. The interface was relative ok, was responsive, and I think I only needed to change the resumed episode once or twice, unlike D+ which seems to always forget where I left off on tv series.

As for the series, it’s still great and one of the best examples of long form story telling with huge character growth and major changes happening nearly every other episode for a large part of the series. We’ve unfortunately lost a large portion of the cast to the ravages of time, but man this was a great series to go back and rewatch.

    “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” Review

X-Men Origins: Wolverine: Directed by Gavin Hood. With Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Will.i.am. The early years of James Logan, featuring his rivalry with his brother Victor Creed, his service in the special forces team Weapon X, and his experimentation into the metal-lined mutant Wolverine.

One of the few x-men movies that hasn’t been released on 4k disc yet, so when I saw a “3 disc limited edition” for just $5 at a local flea market, I quickly inspected the main bluray disk and bought it. The first disc is the HD version, then there’s dvd version, then third disk is a “digital copy” that you can put in your computer and watch from your PC’s monitor which is a novel way of letting that happen. I’m happy this method was replaced with the current digital code system, it’s much more convenient.

The movie itself is still the glorious mess that it’s always been with some of the best Wolverine content coupled with some of the worst x-men / comic book stuff that Fox ever put out, including the much maligned “mouth sewn shut” version of Deadpool.

Happy to have it in my collection!
