“The Wrath of Becky” Review

The Wrath of Becky: Directed by Matt Angel, Suzanne Coote. With Lulu Wilson, Seann William Scott, Denise Burse, Jill Larson. Two years after escaping a violent attack, a teenage girl must defend herself against a domestic terrorist cell.

The second in a film series that I didn’t see the first one of, but this is the one that I’m able to watch on Hoopla (the first one is there, I just ran out of view credits for the month) and honestly this second one is the one that hit my radar. I’ll check out the first one next month when my credits regenerate.

This is a low budget but big fun hyper violent story of a young woman trying to make her way in a world filled with people that need to have hyper violence imparted on them. it’s fun and wears it’s low budget on it’s sleeves but fails to stick the landing and has about 2 scenes more than it really should have had.

  • What is better: online or offline casino?

An offline casino is an establishment with a certain number of gambling games. Typically, land-based gambling houses are built near resorts, hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions. Some of them host concerts and other entertainment events. Clients can play poker, roulette, slots, baccarat, and other games. Most of them have a certain mathematical chance, which determines the advantage of the house over the players. (more…)

    “3 Body Problem” Review

3 Body Problem: Created by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Alexander Woo. With Jovan Adepo, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong. A fateful decision made in 1960s China reverberates in the present, where a group of scientists partner with a detective to confront an existential planetary threat.

A fun hard science fiction series that doesn’t stay very jovial for very long and gets right into the hard truths portion fast enough to turn off those that don’t enjoy such things but kept my attention the entire time. I’ve heard so much about the book that I was expecting something much more esoteric than what we ended up with, as a story in a book it’s not all that unique, but as a televised series, I don’t think there’s been much done with relativistic alien invasions or the mismatch of technological levels that only just a couple decades would present. The show is run by the same guys that failed the stick the landing for the final season of Game of Thrones, so if you remember that mess, you can understand my trepidations of how this was going to turn out. If you remember though, they only went off the rails narratively when they lost the foundations of the source material, which isn’t going to be a problem for this series based on a completed book.

I look forward to the future seasons to see what kind of technology story elements are going to get introduced and if they’re going to end up doing any time jumps. Also, I’m super curious about that brain in space, surely it’s not going to be a dangling story thread and will be resolved, right?

Maybe I need to read the (translated) book.

Previews of this week’s comics: “Star Trek: Defiant #12” and “Star Trek: Picard’s Academy #6”

IDW has graciously given me permission to post some preview images of their upcoming comics and while this one is a couple days late, I’m working out my process and I think I have it nailed down. These actually came out yesterday, but if this were done earlier this week like I had planned, here’s what you’d see:

    Star Trek: Defiant #12

Original Star Trek: Defiant writer-artist duo Christopher Cantwell and Ángel Unzueta delve into the sci-fi horror genre in arc three of the fan-favorite series! Eager to move past the unofficial bounty-hunting mission assigned to them by Starfleet, disgraced former ambassador and Starfleet legend, Worf, and his rogue crew make way for Starbase 99, a run-down remnant of the Dominion War, to complete their fugitive drop-off. The clandestine assignment has left them disillusioned with Starfleet and with one another, but a surprise awaits the Defiant crew, threatening to tear the crew apart even further-literally.

    Star Trek: Picard’s Academy #6

It’s do-or-die for Picard and cadets in the finale of Picard’s Academy! Romulans storm the ship while Starfleet remains out of reach and potentially unaware of the threat headed their way, but the cadets have finally come to an agreement, electing Jean-Luc to the captain’s chair. They’re finally willing to follow Picard’s lead, and Picard is finally willing to acknowledge their feedback-now acting as a proper crew. But is it too late? Will Picard fail his crewmates once again and, worse yet, see the start of an interstellar war? So much for graduating early!

    “American Fiction” Review

American Fiction: Directed by Cord Jefferson. With Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander. A novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment uses a pen name to write a book that propels him into the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.

As I’ve found myself in a state of full time unemployment, I’m going to be hitting some of these less actiony movies via my A-List subscription, after all, why not? This entire week had me seeing three movies that I would have normally waited until streaming or purchasing was available, so it was an interesting experience seeing these in the theater, it’s definitely the better option of the two. For two of the three movies I was actually the only person in the theater for their showings, which is a hell of a way to see them if you can swing it.

The trailer for “American Fiction” made me feel this was going to be more of a comedy than it actually was, but the comedy that was present was refreshingly mature, realistic and not at all like the humor that normal ends up in films. Perhaps it’s my own experiences with recent cinema, but it was a pleasure to watch the exceptionally emotional moments of a critically successful author fail to appeal to the general public until he wrote a performance piece that in his mind was senseless drivel that no one in their right minds would want to read, but it turns out that he underestimated the general sense of a racist society that tries to not be racist but still comes off as trying too hard and focusing on the wrong things. That story is taking place all while the “real world” stuff happening off the page and on the screen was some of the most fantastically depressing and realistic family drama that I’ve gone through myself and while it was painful to see it on the screen, I felt like the family I saw on the screen was much like my own, sans the gay brother diving into pools of cocaine as a part of his coming out experience. The struggles of personal identity vs public perception is a familiar one.

This isn’t necessarily an experience that is enhanced by the big screen, but if you get a chance to see “American Fiction” I wouldn’t pass it up.

    “The Marsh King’s Daughter” Review

The Marsh King’s Daughter: Directed by Neil Burger. With Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn, Brooklynn Prince, Gil Birmingham. A woman seeks revenge against the man who kidnapped her mother.

While this is a perfectly fine movie with some good acting from both Ridley and Mendelsohn, it feels less than what I was expecting, it’s more of a character study of a situation than it is an action filled revenge adventure. There’s some gorgeous scenery for Ridley and Mendelsohn to chew through, but the story failed to really draw me in.

Moms for Liberty are neither real moms or for liberty. Real moms don’t preach hate into the hearts of children. Real moms don’t reject their children just because they’re a little different. Anyone for liberty doesn’t ban books or seek to deny truth from our education system. No, these are hateful disgusting people who are actually harming our children and our nation. And I am so very tired of campaigning against them in schoolboard elections. So very very tired.

7 votes: Saborlas on Don’t get why the two are illegal for the most part:
Because there’s profit to be made by keeping them illegal. Some drugs being illegal means that the legal drugs have a near monopoly. Illegal drugs that are popular among certain marginalized populations means you can arrest members of those populations over harmless behavior. This keeps for-profit prisons rolling in cash and slave labor.

Worth noting, for the “both sides” crowd: The law in question includes the words: “willfully retains it or fails to deliver it”, so Biden likely hasn’t committed a crime, at all, while Mr. Trump, and his lawyers, (or, as I prefer, lolyers), have, in fact, inarguably committed a number of felonies. Ghouls the lot of them. School lunch should be free for every student. No child should go hungry at school because they’re parents are struggling financially. This same party wants to dismantle public education entirely so only the rich can have educated kids so this move doesn’t surprise me. Their cruelty is their legacy. A surprisingly competent bullet hell game with a lurid concept, but it fails to directly deliver on the lurid part of it’s promise, at least until you manually add an empty file to the installation directory to “patch” the nudity back into the game, This of course is obscene in how they hide their obscenity and is offensive that you’d have to go through all those hoops just to actually see what you paid to see.

I’d recommend it, just as long as you know you have to do some minor hacking to get what you want from the game. I played about 5 hours and was able to get all the achievements, of which there are 69 of them, giggity.

    “No Hard Feelings” Review

No Hard Feelings: Directed by Gene Stupnitsky. With Jennifer Lawrence, Andrew Barth Feldman, Laura Benanti, Matthew Broderick. On the brink of losing her home, Maddie finds an intriguing job listing: helicopter parents looking for someone to bring their introverted 19-year-old son out of his shell before college. She has one summer to make him a man or die trying.

Movies about people having sex with other people under false pretense have largely fallen out of favor with the general public, largely due to the implication that it’s actually a rape and if you lie to someone to have sex with them, there’s a level of evilness in you that’s unforgivable. I think in their sense of nostalgia for a movie formula that worked pretty well back in the 1980’s everyone lost sight of the conclusions of the current zeitgeist. The basic premise of the film is just that, she’s a 32 year old woman that’s being paid by the parents of a 19 year old that’s recently graduated from high school but has failed to have sex with an actual human being. There’s a couple scenes (including the entire first ‘mixer’ scene) that brush up against the honest truth that this type of thing is just fine and that the main character played by Jennifer Lawrence is wrong in nearly every aspect of her social stances. To be clear, I knew plenty of dudes that had limited sexual experience before they made it to college and they did just fine with the ladies (or other fellas) if that was what they wanted to do. A few of them straight up were uninterested in pursuing romantic interests, which is just fine. No one needed to be ‘fixed’ by having sex with a uber driver that’s nearly twice their age.

There’s some really funny or poignant scenes in the film, it’s a shame they’re encapsulated in such a problematic film.

“Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire” Review

Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire: Directed by Zack Snyder. With Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman. When a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, a mysterious stranger living among its villagers becomes their best hope for survival.

Zack Snyder is back in another undeniably Zack Snyder film which features all the things that Snyder is well known for: slow motion, plot elements that swing for the fences, over the top action scenes, and enough dangling story threads that would require another 15 films just to wrap them all up. It’s an obvious science fiction take on the well loved and remade Magnificent Seven / Battle of the Planets formula in which our primary hero must put together a ragtag team of unlikely heroes to defend a small village from an evil force. In this case there’s a galactic empire that’s looking to get some food from a tiny little farm, and the tiny little farm has only rifles to defend itself, while the empire has spaceships with planet busting weapons, so there’s a large leap of logic that needs to be taken in order to enjoy the rest of the film. There’s no one point where the film actually fails to visually entertain, just don’t mind the plot or dialogue too much and you’ll likely have a good time.

Do be warned though, this is half the story. The other half comes out in April of 2024.

    “Gran Turismo” Review

Gran Turismo: Directed by Neill Blomkamp. With David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Takehiro Hira. Based on the unbelievable, inspiring true story of a team of underdogs – a struggling, working-class gamer, a failed former race car driver, and an idealistic motorsport exec – who risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world.

“Gran Turismo” the movie was heavily promoted in theaters and they didn’t leave much of the story out of the dozens of different times I saw the various trailers, but honestly this type of film really doesn’t need to hold much back. It’s a feel good story of a kid that grew up on video games and somehow managed to become a pretty ok driver in a highly competitive industry, a movie formula I’ve seen hundreds of times but still enjoy seeing from time to time.

  • “Muppets Haunted Mansion” Review

Muppets Haunted Mansion: Directed by Kirk R. Thatcher. With Will Arnett, Taraji P. Henson, Darren Criss, Yvette Nicole Brown. On Halloween night, Gonzo is challenged to spend one night in The Haunted Mansion.

I remember seeing this back in 2021, really enjoying it, then tryicng to get my wife to watch, but failing spectacularly. She’s taking part in my HORROR MARATHON this year though, so last night was finally the night, and I’ happy to report that she fully enjoyed the experience, much like I did when I seent it previously. We still haven’t had enough quality content for the Muppets since this movie and apparently Disney felt the experience of the Muppets in the Haunted Mansion was unique enough (or not viewed enough) that they were safe in making yet another version of the experience just 2 years later. With that short of time span, they had to have already been storyboarding the 2023 live action version when this was released, so maybe everything went the way they were hoping, but I’m here to tell you, this Muppet version is the best of the three imho.

    “Foundation” Season 2 Review

Foundation: Created by Josh Friedman, David S. Goyer. With Jared Harris, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Terrence Mann. A complex saga of humans scattered on planets throughout the galaxy all living under the rule of the Galactic Empire.

There’s some really amazing space stuff happening in this second season and they’ve worked their way around the obvious issues of adapting a book series set over the span of thousands of years to the realities of doing a long form television show with actors that need to be contracted for more than just a couple episodes. They’ve luckily avoided the weird shift that comes with changing actors half way through a season, something that House of Dragons tried (and failed imho), and have a story in the works that’s doing the source material justice.

    Features of dating women online

Today we will talk about online dating. Why are so many men and women increasingly getting to know each other on the World Wide Web? Why has such a communication scheme become so popular, is it worth getting acquainted on the Internet? Why do men care less and less about women in reality, preferring social networks for dating? Why do women agree to such relationships, why are they dangerous, and what are the advantages of online dating? We will discuss these and other questions today.

Many men fail to start a conversation, let alone invite a date or a full-fledged relationship. Certain difficulties are experienced by people of different ages and social status. But it is possible to solve the issue of single women dating if you use the possibilities of the Internet.

Today you can meet women at GoDateNow . But is it worth it? And what are the benefits of dating sites?

Why is it easier to meet women online?

Online dating has a lot of advantages. This method is suitable for both women and men who are looking for a partner for life or for one night. It is actively used by people of different ages and with different characters. If earlier only men with psychological problems and fears searched for women on the Internet, then modern sites are filled with self-confident guys.

So, dating women online has the following advantages:

Wide field of possibilities. Any user can find a partner for a variety of purposes. Someone just needs an interlocutor, someone is looking for sex, others are looking for the woman of their dreams. Each person gets the opportunity to satisfy their needs quickly and at no extra cost.

Large selection of candidates. In real life, not everyone has the opportunity to choose. On the Internet, there are many profiles of suitable girls who are open to communication and relationships.

More chance of success. Since you can start chatting with several girls at once, there is always a chance of success. Dating sites give you the opportunity to make mistakes, correct your mistakes and get what you need.

An equally important point is the ability to carefully consider every word. In real communication, it is not always possible to control the conversation. With correspondence on online dating sites, the opposite is true. You can weigh every word before you start communication.

    What can go wrong?

For all its undoubted advantages, dating girls on the Internet has some disadvantages. Going from the virtual plane to the real one is not always easy. If from the very beginning of the correspondence there were exaggerations and embellishments, a meeting in reality may turn out to be a disappointment.

There is also a risk of falling into the hands of scammers. They can lure money, gifts, etc. You can avoid this if you carefully choose a dating site and stop communicating if the interlocutor tries to find out personal data.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The High Country

This is is one of the best Trek books that I’ve read in a while, with no offense intended towards the other ones that have come and gone. I’m somewhat surprised that I had such a great experience with it, as I recently read “Rogue Elements” and hated nearly everything about it, and both of them were by John Jackson Miller. I knew that I liked his writing though, as Rogue Elements wasn’t a poorly written book, I just thought the entire premise was ridiculous and it used some Trek elements that I’ve always thought were among the most silly in the franchise. Both books serve as quasi-sequels to television episodes, with Rogue Elements featuring the goofy mobsters first introduced in the original series episode “A Piece of the Action”, and High Country following up on some loose threads from Star Trek: Enterprise’s cowboy episode “North Star”.

Miller was able to capture Pike’s sarcastic swagger perfectly and introduced a deep and broad backstory for the elements of the planet they’re on and as I mentioned, I loved how it all played out. Normally I’m a spaceship kinda guy, but for once I was happy to be on this pony ride.

After watching the anime from Netflix, I’m somewhat more interested in this universe. The Trauma Team plays heavy in both the show and this book, and it’s a unique concept to me: a military extraction team that can stabilize a patient and put plenty of lead down range. Of course it’s framed as a failure of the capitalist society that Cyberpunk 2077 exists in, but it’s still a novel idea that has legs.

    2022 TGIOKDI Year In Review

Looks like I’m a few days late on my 2022 break down, no reason for the delay other than I started it, saved the draft, then went about my life oblivious to the fact I never finished writing.  2022 was a year of beginnings and a couple endings for me.  February saw my wife going back to the office due to the Governor wanting good press for himself, where she was promptly infected with covid, which I then caught.  At this point we had both of the main shots and I believe a booster, so while it sucked, it sucked much less than it could have.  I’ll still hold a grudge against the idiot governor though, he was reckless in ordering so many people back into a shared office environment and he’s personally responsible for me getting the virus.

It was about a month after the infection that we did one more round of IVF, which failed to produce any results, so we’ve given up on having children.  It’s tough to write that, but it is what it is.  Right after we got this news we decided that it was time to start re-entering the general public because we had all the boosters, we had been infected, and honestly we were just done with being safe or smart about the viral situation, so caution was thrown to the wind and we went to a Chinese buffet.  It was a good meal, but a very weird sensation, being in public and eating without any kind of mask on for the first time in nearly 2 years.

In May, one of my cats passed after a slow decline, so while it wasn’t an unexpected situation, it still sucked.  It was right around that time too that we had another foster cat (Nyx!) who had six kittens, but only had three survive (one of whom had a odd coughing problem due to malformed lungs…we foster failed with her, so now she’s part of the cat colony forever).

The sense of not having control of my life was compounded by my employer making some business consolidations, with hundreds of people being severanced in the prior year or so, and looking at the labor market made me made some decision about making some educational efforts.  I never did finish my degree back when I was in college the first time around back in 1999-2002, so Summer 2022 I started online courses, which I’m about half way through at this point, with classes starting back up next week.  I’m planning on being done by the end of summer 2023, but ultimately it’s going to be an expensive piece of paper that won’t inform or guaranty a job, but at least I feel like I’m doing something about my situation instead of just being a backseat rider to all the crazy stuff going on in my personal life or with the American economy in general.

Over that summer, I finally have nickeled and dimed myself to having a pretty decent twitch streaming setup, then got my first few payments from the twitch too! It was like $50 for a year’s worth of streaming, but it made me feel great about putting a fish tank on the twitch.

In July, I reorganized my home office, hiding all my comic long boxes behind a bookshelf in my closet, so you can’t see all the cardboard, but I know they’re still there. I looks so much better now, I’m considering doing the same thing to the other side of the closet, so it’ll look like it’s just one big bookcase on that wall.

In 2021 I thought I’d start putting some grass in my front yard, which the first step was raking all the leaves and detritus that had accumulated in the prior ten years since I last raked it. I finished that project and actually put down some seed, most of which was washed away in the rain, but some of it stayed and now it’s actually growing and it’s actually green! I need to get back out there and rake again, but I’m impressed that it was that easy in what I actually had to do. Bagging all that stuff up into 40+ bags was really not much fun, but the end result is great. Now maybe I’ll do the same thing for my bag yard?

    Media consumption by the numbers

    • 40 Books, slightly down from last year’s 48
    • 20 video games, double the previous year, this is 100% because of my twitch account.
    • 265 movies, down from last year’s 346 movies, but back to around 2020’s 232 films watched
    • 53 seasons of television, up from last year’s 35 count.

    Heading for Heaven

Heading for Heaven: Directed by Lewis D. Collins. With Stuart Erwin, Glenda Farrell, Russ Vincent, Irene Ryan. Stuart Erwin plays a small-town real estate agent who owns much property which, for several generations, has failed to sell even while the town has grown. It becomes known, except to Erwin, that the property is being considered for the new airport and the owner will make a small fortune. He is swarmed upon by an unscrupulous swami (Russ Vincent)and his equally-crooked business partner, and Erwin is soon convinced that he hasn’t long to live. With his life a mess, he leaves home and family.

Released in 1947, this was released after a 3 year hiatus for Glenda Farrell, and while this is a good movie for her, I wish she had a stronger role in the film, maybe even the lead. nothing against Stuart Erwin, but Glenda’s a much stronger actor at this point. The film itself is a fun con-man story of real estate and mistaken suicides, all wrapped in some conversations from beyond the veil of life itself. The movie is based on a play (“For the Sake of the Family”).

The transfer of this film to dvd however is absolute garbage, with jumpy frame gates, blown out video, blown out audio, missing frames, dirty frames, and visible encoding lines at bottom of the screen, which are likely from a VHS copy of the film that Alpha Video used to burn to a DVD. The movie really deserves a better transfer, but I think this is the best we’re going to get.

12 votes: Karl Lewis on Florida surgeon general: Masks ‘never’ saved lives during pandemic:
I don’t expect to ever understand the performative stupidity of the MAGA Right. Jebus. Do they argue that masks on surgeons are just there for show? WTAF is WRONG with these people?

12 votes: Bolthorn on Republican Sen. Mike Braun says Supreme Court was wrong to legalize interracial marriage:
Just by him saying this in the year 2022 means that he’s wrong because he’d be fighting like hell to make it not legal in his state. Reading the article, this dude is just a backwards bigot in general. He can fuck off.

11 votes: Karl Lewis on Washington State trooper who refused to get vaccinated dies of COVID-19:
Man… if ONLY we could figure out WHO had POLITICIZED the damned global pandemic. Because it seems like this whole anti-vax thing is flat out killing people. In any case, Darwin seems to be quite a demonstrative, if ruthless, instructor. Oddly, he’s not as effective as one might expect.

11 votes: Gropegrope on G.O.P. Declares Jan. 6 Attack ‘Legitimate Political Discourse’:
So now the entire Republican party is participating in treason….? Officially.

11 votes: Karl Lewis on Disney’s Special District Tells Ron DeSantis to Cough Up $1 Billion or STFU:
Florida Lawmakers failed to read or understand their own laws. Who could have seen THAT coming? I mean, who could have imagined that performative stupidity wasn’t a viable governing strategy? Quelle surprise.

11 votes: Bolthorn on Disney’s Special District Tells Ron DeSantis to Cough Up $1 Billion or STFU:
DeSantis isn’t very good at foresight.

10 votes: Karl Lewis on Ruben Gallego Rips NRA and GOP After School Slaughter: ‘Fuck You Ted Cruz’ and ‘Fuck Your Prayers’:
After careful, consideration I have decided that Rep. Gallego is correct. “Fuck you!” is the only response any Democrat offers to any Republican talking point, faux outrage, or whatever, from now until the end of time.

9 votes: storminator on Washington State trooper who refused to get vaccinated dies of COVID-19:
    Fucking POETIC.

9 votes: Bolthorn on Florida surgeon general: Masks ‘never’ saved lives during pandemic:
Let’s go back to not making doctors wash their hands between handling a corpse and performing surgery while we’re at it! Anyone that constantly spouts out “You know” while giving a speech is full of shit.

9 votes: Bolthorn on Republican county clerk indicted in scheme to leak voting-machine passwords:
We found someone trying to commit a whole bunch of voter fraud that conservatives love to crow about. Although the caw was coming from inside their own party.

    It’s Christmas, Eve

It’s Christmas, Eve: Directed by Tibor Takács. With LeAnn Rimes, Tyler Hynes, Gwynyth Walsh, Laurie Murdoch. An interim school superintendent finds herself in a tough spot when she is assigned to shut down a school’s failing music program, and must come to terms with her musical past.

I was only able to hear about 1/10 of the film and only visually saw about 1/3 of it, but it was on a tv that I was sitting near for several hours, so I figured that counts as being technically “watched”. the bits and bobs that I was able to see were fantastic, and the tiny amount I could hear over the roar of a family holiday event were absolutely enamoring.

    Orphans of Katrina

An indepth look deep inside the world’s biggest animal rescue. Find out what REALLY happened on the Gulf and how you can help save America’s pets today. Orphans of Katrina is a vivid journey, a historical account, and a celebration of the volunteer rescuers–and the animals we share our world with.

I got this back in 2017 for free from Amazon and the contents of it are about as professional as the cover image is, which isn’t necessarily a knock against the book, but it’s obvious that this was an author that put it together themselves or with a low cost service and could have used an editor for both the entire thing. The book is mostly from the POV of a woman that traveled from California to Louisiana to help rescue family pets that had been left behind in the evacuations that took place. At the time evacuation services didn’t permit animals to be brought at all, so many people either locked up their pets in their homes or were forced to just let them run free at the evacuation points. To give a sense of the scale of the problem, according to American Pet Products Association (among others) have found that about 65% of Americans have pets of some sort and with a population of around 480,000 there would have been at least 312,000 animals involved in either evacuating or staying behind.

This wasn’t a fun book to read and I’ll admit that it really bummed me out to read the pet profiles at the end of the book and a few tears were shed. I know that we all say that we’d never leave our pets behind in this types of situations, but you never know what you’ll do until that decision is right in front of you. For many of the evacuees, this was the 5th hurricane of the year to be worried about and they expected it to pass much like all the previous ones did, and it did! The damage directly from the storm itself was minimal, it was the flooding from the levee failures that did the vast majority of damage and caused a 2 or 3 day evacuation turn into a several month one.

The efforts to save the animals was commendable and I’m honestly sure that I wouldn’t have been able to do it myself. Reading between the lines, I think most of the pet findings were of animals that had already died in some truly horrifying ways. The one silver lining of the horrible situation is some legislation was put in place to try to prevent something like this from happening again in the future, called the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act.

Peter David Fund, organized by Graham Murphy

Fundraising for author Peter David and his family. He’s had some compounded health problems, and the bills are piling up! On top of kidney failure, and the steep medical bills incurred from that, he just had another series of strokes AND a mild heart attack.

I’ve confirmed with Michael Jan Friedman that this is legit.  As many of us know, Peter David has written over 60 star trek novels and an absolute bucket load of comic books.

Twitter is now having trouble paying some employees on time

Employees hit with overdraft fees after paychecks fail to show up on schedule.

    DC League of Super-Pets

DC League of Super-Pets: Directed by Jared Stern, Sam J. Levine. With Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski. Krypto the Super-Dog and Superman are inseparable best friends, sharing the same superpowers and fighting crime side by side in Metropolis. However, Krypto must master his own powers for a rescue mission when Superman is kidnapped.

All the marketing pushed Johnson and Hart, for all the obvious reasons, those guys are super marketable and never fail to please, but I’m here to tell you their roles in “DC League of Super-Pets” they take an absolute backseat to Kate McKinnon’s fantastic performance in which she literally stole every scene that she was in. I was impressed with the pet stuff, but I will say that the familiar super-heroes were just sad parodies of their more familiar versions.

Florida flies “illegal immigrants” to Martha’s Vineyard

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday flew two planes of immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, escalating a tactic by Republican governors to draw attention to what they consider to be the Biden administration’s failed border policies.

Editorial: Ranked-choice voting diffuses extremism. Which is why it worked against Palin.

Missouri organizers, who tried and failed to get a ranked-choice system on the ballot this year, should keep trying.

    The Sandman

The Sandman: Created by Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer, Allan Heinberg. With Tom Sturridge, Boyd Holbrook, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong. Upon escaping after decades of imprisonment by a mortal wizard, Dream, the personification of dreams, sets about to reclaim his lost equipment.

Dare I say it, but this adaptation of the much loved comic book series by Neil Gaiman is actually quite good! Netflix has a much deserved reputation for not handling adaptations all that well and DC / WarnerBros has been failing at nearly everything they’ve done in the last couple years, with nearly every single one of their projects having “something” that doesn’t work very well about them. There’s a couple odd things about Sandman as well, but nothing that even made me raise my eyebrow in a concerning way. The casting was downright perfect for every role that I’m familiar with and those I wasn’t were just fine. Special shoutout to Gwendoline Christie for her pitch perfect depiction of Lucifer Morningstar.
