“The Muppet Christmas Carol” Review
Tags:Movie Posters, Movie Reviews, Movies, The Muppets, X-Mas
The gold standard for Christmas movies and in my humble opinion the very best adaptation of the Christmas Carol, a story that’s about 180 years old, being first published in 1843 by Charles Dickens with hundreds of different versions being adapted for every single type of media that you can imagine, including over 20 movies made in the last 80 years. This is by no means a neutered version of the story with some really spooky Muppets taking up the roles of Christmas future and whatever that floating demon / elf thing was. It also includes one of the most solid and memorable Christmas songs of my youth:

I bought this entire series back when they were just $1 a pop, I love DeCandido’s Star Trek work, so it seemed like a no brainer, and it turned out to be a fantastic leap of logic because this series has turned out to be a rather entertaining set of stories all surrounding a genre that I otherwise wouldn’t have given even a moment’s notice to.
“The Continental: From the World of John Wick” Review

Overladen with CGI sets, CGI action, and CGI weapons, this series is set in an uninteresting time period and featured characters that I just didn’t find interesting at all. I know that the Wick franchise relies heavily on CGI elements, particularly the gun play, but there was something off about the way it was done here that made it all too obvious and easily took me out of the flow of the movie every time I noticed it.
I originally tried to watch this back when it first came out in September, but was unable to stomach the 5 minute ad preroll that I was faced with on Peacock. It’s not as terrible currently here in December of 2023, but again, it took me completely out of the experience to get modern pizza and soda commercials.
“The Great Escaper” Review

Based on a true story and reportedly is Michael Caine’s final film performance, though like most actors there’s likely a few projected that he filmed previously in post production limbo or in a vault somewhere. As far as final performances go, there aren’t many as emotional and well done as this.
Sidenote that I think this is the first time that I’ve ever run into a situation where the same exact biographical story was adapted in a movie during the same year, with this one coming out just a month before Pierce Brosnan’s “The Last Rifleman”, which I haven’t seen yet but I understand to be the less well received of the two.

Level 247: Cris Velasco (Lords of the Fallen)

It’s always a joy catching up with composer Cris Velasco! This time around, we chat about his epic music for Lords of the Fallen, a souls-like action RPG with plenty of boss battles. He also clues me into another one of his recent scores, for a game called Fae Farm, He and I will talk more about that in a future episode, because it’s delightful. Also couldn’t be more different than his music for Lords.
Come chat with us on Discord about game music, and see the video of my conversation with Cris on the Level with Emily YouTube channel.

it’s been a bit since I’ve seen the original movie, but this episodic version of the story is different in great ways, like how each episode has a real focus, but worse in others, like that new theme song that you get to listen to several times over.
It’s worth checking out, especially if you already have Hulu.
“A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa” Review
Tags:christmas, Movie Posters, Movie Reviews, Movies, The Muppets
A “made for tv movie” this isn’t the best Muppet content that I’ve ever seen, but it’s also not the worst, that sorta recent tv office comedy they did certainly takes that case. There’s a few fun guest stars and the songs are passable enough, but there’s no real bangers here like there are in the Muppet’s Christmas Carol.
