    “Kong: Skull Island” Review

Kong: Skull Island: Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. With Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly. After the Vietnam war, a team of scientists explores an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong and must fight to escape a primal Eden.

The most recent entry to this giant monster series (Monarch) had some direct references to Skull Island and I swear I couldn’t remember a single thing about the film. I had forgotten nearly everyone that was in it, remembered none of the plot points, and the only thing I honestly remembered was that when I went to see it in the theaters we somehow ended up in a sensory experience with the lights fully on during the film and when we went to ask wtf was going on they moved us to the IMAX version of the film which was about 20 minutes ahead of where we were in the previous seating arrangement.

The movie itself still holds up, largely because Kong isn’t the sole focus of the film, with some fantastic acting by some of the biggest names in the business, with plenty of small plotlines that were later picked up by Godzilla, Godzilla: King of Monsters, then Godzilla v Kong, and finally with the Monarch television show. You don’t really have to see any of the other films to really understand what’s going on in the others, but it makes for a well make unified universe that really works for me.
