Star Trek Voyager Arcitects of Infinity front cover 625x1024 Out Today: Star Trek: Voyager: Architects of Infinity

Out today is ‘s new book titles “Star Trek: Voyager: Architects of the Infinity

Here’s the book’s synopsis if you needed reminding:

An original novel set in the universe of Star Trek: Voyager, from the New York Times bestselling author. As the Federation Starship Voyager continues to lead the Full Circle Fleet in its exploration of the Delta Quadrant, Admiral Kathryn Janeway remains concerned about the Krenim Imperium and its ability to rewrite time to suit its whims. At Captain Chakotay’s suggestion, however, she orders the fleet to focus its attention on a unique planet in a binary system, where a new element has been discovered. Several biospheres exist on this otherwise uninhabitable world, each containing different atmospheres and features that argue other sentient beings once resided on the surface. Janeway hopes that digging into an old-fashioned scientific mystery will lift the crews’ morale, but she soon realizes that the secrets buried on this world may be part of a much larger puzzle—one that points to the existence of a species whose power to reshape the galaxy might dwarf that of the Krenim.Meanwhile, Lieutenants Nancy Conlon and Harry Kim continue to struggle with the choices related to Conlon’s degenerative condition. Full Circle’s medical staff discovers a potential solution, but complications will force a fellow officer to confront her people’s troubled past and her own future in ways she never imagined…

Star Wars The Last Jedi review

915ZKRTL. RI SX300 Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Star Wars saga continues in The Last Jedi as the heroes and galactic legends go on an epic adventure unlocking mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

This is an enjoyable movie, just as long as you know next to nothing about the Star Wars universe. If you do, boy howdy are there are some problems going on here that were started as small problems in The Force Awakens and only get worse in this sequel. The problems I had with TLJ:

    1. Way too short of a time period being covered in the movie, it’s only about 72 hours of actual in universe time from the moment Rey meets Luke to the confrontation on the red dust planet.
    2. Now they’re concerned about fuel? Why now? Also, what happened to the rest of the Galactic fleet? Where’s the New Republic?
    3. The entire side adventure with Rose and Finn is dumb dumb dumb and only serves to distract from the main story that’s going on.
    4. The fresh milk scene.  WTF no thanks.

Escape into the enchanted world of chivalry and romance in Stardust, an epic tale starring Claire Danes with Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro.

Michelle Pfeiffer absolutely killed it as a dark witch hunting a fallen star, I absolutely loved her performance here, along with the makeup and special effects that were used to age / de-age her so many times.

Star Trek Discovery Desperate Hours review

120992314 660x1024 Star Trek: Discovery: Desperate Hours

Aboard the Starship Shenzhou, Lieutenant Michael Burnham, a human woman raised and educated among Vulcans, is promoted to acting first officer. But if she wants to keep the job, she must prove to Captain Philippa Georgiou that she deserves to have it.She gets her chance when the Shenzhou must protect a Federation colony that is under attack by an ancient alien vessel that has surfaced from the deepest fathoms of the planet’s dark, uncharted sea.As the menace from this mysterious vessel grows stronger, Starfleet declares the colony expendable in the name of halting the threat. To save thousands of innocent lives, Burnham must infiltrate the alien ship. But to do so, she needs to face the truth of her troubled past, and seek the aid of a man she has tried to avoid her entire life—until now.

I’m a fan of David Mack’s work and this story was no exception, it was tightly scripted, the characters all seemed to be the same people I’ve seen on TV and since he worked closely with the TV series script writers, there’s some elements of the Discovery crew that were revealed in the book well before they were revealed on the show. Of primary interest to me was the bridge crew of the Shenzhou. If you’re just watching the show, you don’t know any of their names or backstory, but there’s plenty given here!

This was an enjoyable story that moved quickly and explored the first time Spock and Burnham met officially, which happens at a surprising period of their lives and definitely not when I thought it would have happened.

Star Trek Discovery Drastic Measures is out today

dsc drasticmeasures cover 660x1024 Star Trek: Discovery: Drastic Measures is out today!

The second book in the Star Trek: Discovery series has finally landed, penned by Dayton Ward, this is another prequel, this time featuring a team up between Captains Georgiou and Lorca.  Amazon has it up for purchase, either a large format paperback or kindle compatible electronic version.

    From the Amazon description:

It is 2246, ten years prior to the Battle at the Binary Stars, and an aggressive contagion is ravaging the food supplies of the remote Federation colony Tarsus IV and the eight thousand people who call it home. Distress signals have been sent, but any meaningful assistance is weeks away. Lieutenant Commander Gabriel Lorca and a small team assigned to a Starfleet monitoring outpost are caught up in the escalating crisis, and bear witness as the colony’s governor, Adrian Kodos, employs an unimaginable solution in order to prevent mass starvation.

While awaiting transfer to her next assignment, Commander Philippa Georgiou is tasked with leading to Tarsus IV a small, hastily assembled group of first responders. It’s hoped this advance party can help stabilize the situation until more aid arrives, but Georgiou and her team discover that they‘re too late—Governor Kodos has already implemented his heinous strategy for extending the colony’s besieged food stores and safeguarding the community’s long-term survival.

In the midst of their rescue mission, Georgiou and Lorca must now hunt for the architect of this horrific tragedy and the man whom history will one day brand “Kodos the Executioner”….
