Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi 4k review
Tags:Movie Of The Year 2018, Movie Reviews, Movies, Star Wars, Star Wars: Episode 8: The Last Jedi
Every time I watch this movie I like it less and less. This time I was particularly upset with Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, the raver chick turned Fleet Admiral (of three ships?) of the rebellion resistance, who had never met the fleet’s hotheaded hotshot x-wing pilot who’s been with the rogues since their inception. Honestly, if you knew you had someone like Poe Dameron on your ship, I would hope you would have a plan for dealing with him, either by bringing him in on your completely stupid plan to evacuate the fleet’s only ship with smaller ships, or by giving him something to be distracted with.
Ugh. That evacuation scene was needlessly stupid. They were just hoping that the First Order wouldn’t notice those giant shuttle craft?
ugh.

Reminds me of a story I heard about a band that had a couple hits back in the 70s or 80s and were still playing the same damn songs at every concert, but happy about it. When asked why they said something like “this is why these people love us and it’s nice to be loved.”

Aka, “Long thoughtful glances at one of the most beautiful ships to ever grace the screen”, along with some silly robot space plot. I could watch hours of the refit Enterprise, she’s such a beautiful ship.
And I just did!

I know this is a satirical movie ripping on the books’s hyper nationalism and limited philosophical considerations, but I love this movie so much. The soundtrack, the special effect, the plot, all of it just comes together in such a perfect way.

Cover Reveal Star Trek Discovery Fear Itself
Tags:Books, Star Trek: Discovery, StarTrekBookClub.com
StarTrek.com has released the long awaited cover for Jame Swallow’s “Star Trek: Discovery: Fear Itself“!
Here’s a reminder of what we have to look forward to:
Lieutenant Saru is a Kelpien, a member of a prey species born on a world overrun by monstrous predators…and a being who very intimately understands the nature of fear. Challenged on all sides, he is determined to surpass his origins and succeed as a Starfleet officer aboard the U.S.S. Shenzhou.
But when Saru breaks protocol in order to prove himself to his crewmates, what begins as a vital rescue mission to save a vessel in distress soon escalates out of control. Forced into a command role he may not be ready for, Saru is caught between his duty and the conflicting agendas of two antagonistic alien races. To survive, he will need to seek a path of peace against all odds, and risk compromising the very ideals he has sworn to uphold….
Star Trek: Discovery: Fear Itself will run 305 pages and be available as a trade paperback, eBook and eAudio title, priced at $16.00 in the U.S. and $22.00 in Canada. It’ll be out on June 5, and is available now for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Star Trek Discovery Drastic Measures review
Tags:Book Of The Year 2018, Book Reviews, Books, Star Trek, Star Trek: Discovery
An original novel based upon the explosive new Star Trek TV series on CBS All Access!
It is 2246, ten years prior to the Battle at the Binary Stars, and an aggressive contagion is ravaging the food supplies of the remote Federation colony Tarsus IV and the eight thousand people who call it home. Distress signals have been sent, but any meaningful assistance is weeks away. Lieutenant Commander Gabriel Lorca and a small team assigned to a Starfleet monitoring outpost are caught up in the escalating crisis, and bear witness as the colony’s governor, Adrian Kodos, employs an unimaginable solution in order to prevent mass starvation.
While awaiting transfer to her next assignment, Commander Philippa Georgiou is tasked with leading to Tarsus IV a small, hastily assembled group of first responders. It’s hoped this advance party can help stabilize the situation until more aid arrives, but Georgiou and her team discover that they‘re too late—Governor Kodos has already implemented his heinous strategy for extending the colony’s besieged food stores and safeguarding the community’s long-term survival. In the midst of their rescue mission, Georgiou and Lorca must now hunt for the architect of this horrific tragedy and the man whom history will one day brand “Kodos the Executioner”….
A fun and interesting read is what I had hoped for, after all the first Discovery book was pretty fun and interesting. I did not find this book to be fun, nor interesting, I found it to be more of a bland story by checklist:
- Something bad happens.
- Villain runs away.
- Good guys show up.
- Aside from a couple explosions, there’s no confrontation with the bad guy.
- There’s no space combat.
- End of story.
- Epilogue that reveals something absolutely amazing if Discovery actually picks up on it.
I doubt Discovery will pick up on the Epilogue, though it’s possible. It was literally the only thing that I found to be of interest in the book.
