Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi 4k review

81qGgkPxEOL. SL1454 845x1024 Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi 4k

The Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of THE FORCE AWAKENS join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks new mysteries of the Force. It’s “everything you could want and more from a STAR WARS film” (Katie Walsh, Detroit Free Press).

Every time I watch this movie I like it less and less. This time I was particularly upset with Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, the raver chick turned Fleet Admiral (of three ships?) of the rebellion resistance, who had never met the fleet’s hotheaded hotshot x-wing pilot who’s been with the rogues since their inception. Honestly, if you knew you had someone like Poe Dameron on your ship, I would hope you would have a plan for dealing with him, either by bringing him in on your completely stupid plan to evacuate the fleet’s only ship with smaller ships, or by giving him something to be distracted with.

Ugh. That evacuation scene was needlessly stupid. They were just hoping that the First Order wouldn’t notice those giant shuttle craft?

    ugh.

‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman is sick and tired of doing the Wakanda salute all the time

Chadwick Boseman does the Wakanda salute from “Black Panther” everywhere he goes. But he and Michael B. Jordan seem to be really tired of it.

Reminds me of a story I heard about a band that had a couple hits back in the 70s or 80s and were still playing the same damn songs at every concert, but happy about it. When asked why they said something like “this is why these people love us and it’s nice to be loved.”

Star Trek I The Motion Picture review

51xjHM6 hUL Star Trek I: The Motion Picture

When a destructive space entity is spotted approaching Earth, Admiral Kirk resumes command of the Starship Enterprise to intercept, examine, and stop it.

Aka, “Long thoughtful glances at one of the most beautiful ships to ever grace the screen”, along with some silly robot space plot. I could watch hours of the refit Enterprise, she’s such a beautiful ship.

    And I just did!

Enterprise Redesign a Creative Decision for STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, Not “Legally Required” as Rumored | TrekCore Blog

CBS TV Studios does, in fact, have the right to use the U.S.S. Enterprise ship design from the past TV series, and are not legally required to make changes. The changes in the ship design [for ‘Discovery’] were creative ones, made to utilize 2018’s VFX technology.

Well no fucking shit, anyone with half a brain knew this was bullshit from the get go.

Star Trek Discovery Drastic Measures review

91mclpS2sbL 661x1024 Star Trek: Discovery: Drastic Measures

An original novel based upon the explosive new Star Trek TV series on CBS All Access!

It is 2246, ten years prior to the Battle at the Binary Stars, and an aggressive contagion is ravaging the food supplies of the remote Federation colony Tarsus IV and the eight thousand people who call it home. Distress signals have been sent, but any meaningful assistance is weeks away. Lieutenant Commander Gabriel Lorca and a small team assigned to a Starfleet monitoring outpost are caught up in the escalating crisis, and bear witness as the colony’s governor, Adrian Kodos, employs an unimaginable solution in order to prevent mass starvation.
While awaiting transfer to her next assignment, Commander Philippa Georgiou is tasked with leading to Tarsus IV a small, hastily assembled group of first responders. It’s hoped this advance party can help stabilize the situation until more aid arrives, but Georgiou and her team discover that they‘re too late—Governor Kodos has already implemented his heinous strategy for extending the colony’s besieged food stores and safeguarding the community’s long-term survival.

In the midst of their rescue mission, Georgiou and Lorca must now hunt for the architect of this horrific tragedy and the man whom history will one day brand “Kodos the Executioner”….

A fun and interesting read is what I had hoped for, after all the first Discovery book was pretty fun and interesting. I did not find this book to be fun, nor interesting, I found it to be more of a bland story by checklist:

    • Something bad happens.
    • Villain runs away.
    • Good guys show up.
    • Aside from a couple explosions, there’s no confrontation with the bad guy.
    • There’s no space combat.
    • End of story.
    • Epilogue that reveals something absolutely amazing if Discovery actually picks up on it.

I doubt Discovery will pick up on the Epilogue, though it’s possible. It was literally the only thing that I found to be of interest in the book.
