“The Crow: Salvation” Review

It’s always surprising to me that Kirsten Dunst is a scream queen, but she’s been doing horror since she was a wee lady. She does a great job here lifting the mediocre concept to a slightly higher level just by being present, but sadly she’s not able to save the movie from itself and the angst that it’s so hilariously full of. Case in point, the guy that’s been falsely accused of murdering his girlfriend has the last name of “Corvis” which is so close to being “corvus” that I had to pause the movie to laugh about it. Speaking of pausing it, this franchise has been a fun adventure of trying to find where to official stream it, the first movie was on Amazon Prime, the second on Hoopla, the third on “Should Factory Television” and the fourth is back at Hoopla. I’m happy they were all on services that I have access to though, because finding them on less than savory streaming sites can be an unhappy adventure in restoring hard drives.
Of the three films I’ve seen so far, this is leaps and bounds the better of them, but only just barely, I think there was a leap in cinematography and contemporary soundtracks that made the entire effort more palatable.

If you’re a fan of Dan Stevens (like me!) you’re having a good time this year, as this is his second movie that’s currently in theaters that you can see him in, the other being the current Godzilla x Kong: New Empire. This is the superior of the two movies, with more Mr Stevens and a better plot that was a fun horror story. If you’ve seen the trailers, you’ve unfortunately had one of the great horror twists spoiled, but it doesn’t stayed all that mysterious for very long in the film, only about 20-30 minutes. The action is great, the acting is fantastic, and Melissa Barrera absolutely kills it in yet another fantastic ‘final girl’ style horror film.
