Press Release: STAR TREK™:LORE WAR CROSSOVER EVENT ARRIVES MARCH 2025

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 4, 2024) – The single most devious mind in the universe has won. Commander Data’s evil brother, Lore, has used the Orb of Destruction to obliterate all of reality and remake it in his image while declaring himself its God. Now that Lore has claimed the ultimate victory, what happens next?

IDW Publishing is thrilled to announce LORE WAR, the compelling crossover event that has been planned since the STAR TREK line of comics relaunched two years ago with the Eisner-nominated milestone issue STAR TREK #400.

Beginning in STAR TREK: LORE WAR #1 from acclaimed creators Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Christopher Cantwell, and Davide Tinto, the crossover event will include the STAR TREK flagship ongoing series, STAR TREK: DEFIANT, and special one-shot tie-in issues. “This is it. The moment we’ve been building to since the Theseus left spacedock and the Defiant was stolen,” remarked Lanzing. ”The ultimate STAR TREK comics crossover event – as the heroes and villains of the galaxy must band together to defend its very existence.”

“Since the line’s inception, our grander story in both titles has dealt with STAR TREK’s concept of godlike beings and the rejection of those godlike beings — order and entropy as it exists throughout the four quadrants of the galaxy,” added Cantwell. “Who pulls the strings and who dares to cut them? LORE WAR is quite literally the apotheosis of that shared theme, two years in the making.”

“The gods are dead, and only one mad android holds the reins of our universe. With absolute power comes absolute corruption… but does it come with absolute control?” stated Kelly. “Featuring the incredible art of Davide Tinto – a newcomer to the Trek world – we’re not settling for anything less than the most impressive and world-ending STAR TREK event that comics can contain.”

Group Editor Heather Antos is thrilled to have fans finally see what they’ve been planning since the very beginning of the relaunch. “It’s all been building to this moment. No, literally. From the original prelude in STAR TREK #400 two years ago the road map has always led to LORE WAR. When Collin, Jackson, and Christopher first embarked on this mission we asked the question ‘Can a man be both man and a god?’ Well now Lore is answering.”

STAR TREK: LORE WAR #1 boldly beams into shops on March 26, 2025, and the crossover features primary covers by artist Malachi Ward. Fans can pre-order from their local comic shop. STAR TREK #500, which features the prelude story, is on sale now.

Star Trek: The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko

Benjamin Sisko tells the story of his career in Starfleet, and his life as a father and Bajor’s Emmissary of the Prophets. Charting his rise through the ranks, his pioneering work designing the Defiant-class, his critical role as ambassador and leader during the Dominion War, and his sacred standing

It was pure happenstance that I was half way through this when I started doing some interviews for my then upcoming trip to Shore-Leave 44 and was able to speak to Derek Tyler Attico about his career. Part of that conversation was obviously this book and after talking to him about his life experiences, I can see how many of them ended up in this books as a part of Sisko’s life, a great choice because they all feel like “lived in” emotions and responses to events. There’s one point in the book that a young Benjamin is given a book by his mother and he thinks that “books are the ultimate starship” and they can “take you places a warpcore could never reach” and while I don’t have access to a warp core, I’ve done a fair bit of traveling and I feel the same way.

The book is just chock full of references and Tuckerizations, it would take a much longer post to write them all out here, but suffice to say if you’re a Trek fan you’re going to get a kick out of this book.

Out today: “Star Trek: Holo-Ween TPB“, by Christopher Sequeira.

Horrors from Starfleet’s past are back with a vengeance in this miniseries. To save the ship, Picard and crew will have to become monsters themselves!

The evil Redjac presence—a.k.a. Jack the Ripper from the Star Trek episode “Wolf in the Fold”—has returned. And this time it has a new terrifying tool at its disposal: the holodeck. As Redjac seizes control of Picard’s Enterprise and spreads holographic horror, the only way for the crew to resist insanity is to become one with their fears. Ship counselor Commander Deanna Troi concocts a daring plan for an away team to become hypnotized holodeck-incarnations of timeless horror monsters, such as Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, and others. Once they infiltrate the illusions, they can fight fear with fear. However, will they be able to defeat Redjac and break their hypnosis before their minds are permanently altered? Or will the crew be stuck as movie monsters forever?

    Dayton Ward Interview With StarTrekBookClub.com

Dayton Ward is no stranger to Star Trek, getting his start in the Strange New Worlds contest and going on to write dozens of books in the franchise, including entries in SCE, Vanguard, Seekers, a couple Trek Travel Guides, and the wonderful Kirk-Fu Manual.  We open our conversation by being grumpy about AI writing, but quickly move on to talking about Shore Leave, a show he’s been going to since 2003.

He talks about his sweet personal library and predicts that he’s going to die happy down there, an enviable goal if there ever was one, and we both agree that unread books are still a valid part of a personal library.  Anyone disagreeing with that can go build their own library of books and leave us to our unread ones.

I ask him a line of questions about the Incredibuilds kits, I have them on STBC because there’s a book that comes with them and I’ve never managed to get my hands on it, at least not yet, and he lets me know what’s in those books.  Spoilers: it’s all Star Trek content to give background on the build that you’re incredibuilding.

He and his writing partner Kevin Dilmore recently had a comic book adjacent project released, “Captain America: Declassified“, which is a riff on “The Last Interview” series of books, featuring interviews with comic books characters to gain insight on how they viewed the big events that happened in the Marvel Comic Universe. This might sound familiar because I recently spoke with Kelli Fitzpatrick and she has a book in the same series coming out next year, hers will be Captain Marvel themed.

He gives some good advice to first time convention going folks like me at the end of the talk, I’m grateful for it and I’m already taking him up on some of it!
