Comic Review for week of August 28th 2019

Not-snake eyes is under surveillance by Cobra! Yo Joe Cola makes an appearance!

More ninja on ninja violence, when will it stop? Hopefully not any time soon!

I absolutely loved this cover, it’s a fantastic celebration of the wonder of Marvel Comics. The content inside was a waste of time reading and had absolutely no redeeming value.

Poe belongs to the stars, but they shoved in someone else for this story to take the punch out of a story that should have been his alone.

I’m still missing #2 and #3, so I’ll hold off to review until those are done.

Love the cover, love the story, just wish we got more Trek comics of this quality.

Who knew that the cry baby general from the First Order came from a troubled childhood?

The end of an interesting story that ultimately went no where.

3-D gimmick! McFarlan is a great artist to do this with, as he’s always throwing extra stuff in for the backgrounds and his spidey art is highly dynamic. Specifically there was a scene with some pigeons flying around, then a scene with spidey in the air and his webs flying all around him that worked really well for the 3d effect.

continues to be the first thing I read when it comes time to reading my weekly pulls.

Not a great book, but come on, the parody cover alone was worth the price of admission.

I think I’m back on board with what’s going on here, the villains are more better well explained and there’s a guest star in the last panel!

The creative team on this book is just mind blowingly good. May they always have access to the Batfamily!

I love this cover and I love what they’re going for here.

And now, some reviews for books that didn’t just come out, but I just read:

An interesting concept and I’m surprised as how well it worked. LCS was having a half off sale on their hardcovers and I’d had my eye on this one for a while, and at that price it was well worth my time to read.

I actually bought the 8 single issues and the covers for them are pretty dope, they spell out AVENGERS and looks amazing all lined up. The story inside is not as interesting and seemed to meander for most of the mini series with no real point to the whole thing. I also bought the first mini series, it has the same situation, cool covers, but I’m assuming the story is going to be less exciting.

I think I bought these because I found them for three or four bucks each on amazon and I had read the Image Firsts version of the first issue and was somewhat interested in the story. It’s a great story and some good art, but at the end of the day I don’t think this series is for me.

Comic Review for week of August 7th 2019

Borderline pornography, but boy howdy does it take it’s basic premise and run with it. I’m going to get the collections and see how I like them.

Punisher is asked to team up with Night Thrasher, Moon Knight, and another mysterious guest star. I dig the idea here and where they’re going with it.

Still enjoying the story, still digging the black and white covers.

This was a huge month for Image Firsts, with a few good ones like Unnatural and this one “Trees”, which is about a post first contact Earth in which the Aliens don’t even recognize us as something they’d like to communicate with. Another one that I’ll eventually get the trades for and consume at a later date.

Dan Abnett can do no wrong, I’ll die on this hill if I have to.

I love the story they’re telling here, but absolutely hate the art style.

Honeymooners getting busy in the back rooms of the Honeymoon Hotel!

Is this the same Ice Cream Man that shows up in the DC comics as well? I’m a fan of the horror story that’s going on here but have no clue what the ICM has to offer. Interesting enough to suggest the issue to anyone interested in horror stories, but not interesting enough to check out other issues.

I’ve been buying this series since I noticed my LCS had nearly the entire run for cover price, and I’m still missing about 4 issues, so I was holding them all until I had the entire run, but then I forgot I was doing that and read this one. Guess I’ll have to move up my purchases of the other missing issues so I can just read through them all asap, because I loved this first issue.

I have no clue why I put this on my pull list. It was an ok story, but I can’t remember what the hook was that got me interested.

I was not prepared for how weird this story was going to be, but I’ll keep an eye out for trades at future conventions, it seemed interesting enough to read the full story.

Warren Ellis is one of the good writers out there, and this was a good first issue, but there’s no story elements that would make me come back to this.

This comic was not made available to me, either through LCS or Diamond problems.

I remember buying and reading the first issue of this series and not being interested in what they were putting down. That remains to be the truth.

Not new, but still needs a mention:
    Robin: Son of Batman
LCS had nearly the entire run for $.25 an issue, so I grabbed these and read through most of them. Great art and great story, all featuring a character that I haven’t really had much exposure to, the new Robin, which is the actual son of Bruce Wayne. I missed out on all these shenanigans when they were originally happening, as I had checked out of the comic book scene for a bit, but I’m happy to have the opportunity to read them now.

Comic Review for week of July 31 2019

I’m reading this and asking, who are these characters and why do I not recognize their motivations?

Fantastic story and fantastic art, I love what is being done here.

Best shot of this issue was when she was looking into a mirror and talking about her origins, which I had no idea about. Valiant does that a fair bit, where they just throw characters out there with no introduction or “previously on”, so I guess I should come to expect that.

I had no clue that Warren Ellis did a Carnage storyline and it’s everything I could hope for.

looked like a good jumping on point, I’m still saving the previous few issues to read at a later date, I’m still missing #2 due to Diamond or LCS shenanigans.

The theme park comes to life!

A.I. storyline stumbles on, I only have a couple more issues of this book to get through.

Two good stories sandwiching an absolute shit show of a story involving one of the worst characters in the worst of the Disney Star Wars films, with a hamfisted story line about why you should just blindly trust someone telling you to shoot yourself in the head. Admiral Holdo was silly in the movie and she’s even worse here.

Comic Review for week of April 24th 2019

    a
    Aaaaaaphra

First issue of the “galaxy’s edge” series and I’m already bored.

Sorta obscessed with Vader, sorta dead because of it.

    Awesome story gets more awesome.

Rocket’s origin story is weird AF, but I think it would fit in to the MCU with some slight tweaks.

This was an odd choice for a True Believers book, as it’s the first in a 12 issue storyline, which I guess isn’t TOO weird if you view these things as ads for a trade collection that’s about to come out.

This goes for all the Star Wars True Believers this month: Marvel only just recently got the license for the books back and as such they only have a few years of recent history to mine for promotional content to be used in the TB series of books. That being the case, it’s weird to see TB books from issues that came out just a couple years ago, with the exception of Star Wars #107 from Marvel’s original run. I missed the vast majority of that series when it first ran, so from everything I’m seeing, it was a weird and wacky world of completely goofy but cool stuff that I may need to check out more in depth.

Best book of the week, this series really hits the ground running and I love the idea of moving forward a decade or two in time. Hype!

My comic shop neglected to pull this for me, and still hasn’t been able to get a copy for me yet. This is beginning to be a problem >:(

A great restart/origin story that’s continuing to be great.

A not so great restart to the Firefly comics that continues to not be all that great.

What an absolute horror of an issue. I’m going to make a note of both the author and artists and try to avoid them in the future, this just isn’t for me.

A confusing issue of a confusing series.

I’m thinking I need to go back and re-read this entire series, I feel like I may have missed something important.

Valiant books have had a weird history of dipping in quality, then immediately coming right back up. This is one of those dips, I just don’t understand this character, nor her motivations.

    See Below:

Having two #1 issues of Star Trek that open with a TOS story was a mistake. I can’t remember which is which and to be honest, I don’t care to, both are perfectly ok stories, but separating them in my mind is difficult. IIRC, the Year Five story is the better of the two, but the Waypoint Special had the benefit of having multiple stories, some of which were good and at least one that was so confusing that I actively hated it by the end. Sidenote, Waypoint has nothing to do with the Encounter at Farpoint, which was my original assumption.

Comic Review for week of July 24th 2019

This was as enjoyable as I think it could have possibly have been. Were you unhappy with the resolution in the movie version of Alien3? This is the unfilmed original script, which honestly blows the filmed version right out of the water. If you’re a fan of the Alien franchise, you shouldn’t miss this book.

Two good Hulk stories, the second of which was better than the first.

The end of one storyline that felt weak and out of place, hopefully leading to a storyline that shows off Livewire’s abilities.

Ascender continues to be one of the first books that I read every time it’s in my pull file. Such a great series!

Picks up nearly immediately after the White Knight series and has the same high quality.

hehe, 69. But in a serious note, wow, what a great book.

Thor finally gets to beat things up, but Black Panther goes for a swim.

Were there any symbiots in this book?

The continuation of “oh god, who’s batman, is it that guy, no that’s the bad guy, but we’ll let him do whatever he wants to do”. Bleh.

Why were the symbiots trying to steal Eddie?

Psi-Lords getting their Psi on, and learn that death is not exactly permanent.

STAR WARS ADVENTURES 19 325x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
There’s a funny story here about a battle droid who grows a conscious after getting hit on the head, it’s fantastic.

BATMAN BEYOND 30 330x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
This is one of the best covers I’ve seen in a long while, I’m halfway considering putting it up on my wall. The story inside is pretty good, but man: that cover, right?

BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT 5 329x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
Bloodshot get shot several times and butts heads with the HARDCorps. I think this is the first time that I’ve seen them in the new Valiant universe, and I like what they’re doing with them.

DETECTIVE COMICS 1000 325x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
I’m not sure why, but I felt like this #1000 is much better than the Action Comics #1,000. Maybe I was expecting more from the Superman book, as I had picked up the previous 10 issues, something I didn’t do with ‘Tec. There’s a few good stories here, a couple clunkers, but they all have heart.

DIAL H FOR HERO 1 329x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
I remember reading or hearing about DIAL H way back in the day, but other than knowing there’s a phone involved, I don’t remember much about the series. I think that’s for the best, as this was a great read and I’m sure that if I knew more about the original series I would have something to complain about.

THE FORGOTTEN QUEEN 2 329x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
Her superpower: live a long time and cause men to be angry! The “forgotten queen” is a great read, but I’m not sure where they’re going with either the flashback story they’re doing, nor the present day story.

HEROES IN CRISIS 7 329x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
There are no Green lanterns in this book, so I have no clue why the death of Kilowag is featured. We finally get the main story to move forward just a bit, but this really feels like a story that’s been stretched to it’s very limit.

STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA 30 325x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
Doctor Aphra and her love bot realize that they’re in love and that the bombs in their heads should be no barrier. Then, Doctor Aphra messes up and gives her robot lover all it’s memories back and he realizes that life is a joke.

STAR WARS VADER DARK VISIONS 2 325x500 Comic Review for week of March 27th, 2019
Vader is only featured on maybe 3 pages, but he looms large on ever single panel, to horrifying effect. A great story that should really be checked out to be believed.

    2018 Books of the Year

As voted on by the community, here’s the top ten books of 2018, along with some color commentary from me, Tiki God.

    The Consuming Fire The Interdependency

3 votes, average: 5.00 out of 53 votes, average: 5.00 out of 53 votes, average: 5.00 out of 53 votes, average: 5.00 out of 53 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5 (3 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5, rated)

Scalzi sure can right some good words, this continues his streak of great stories that have interesting twists that kept me hooked for the entire read.

    Snow Crash

4 votes, average: 4.75 out of 54 votes, average: 4.75 out of 54 votes, average: 4.75 out of 54 votes, average: 4.75 out of 54 votes, average: 4.75 out of 5 (4 votes, average: 4.75 out of 5, rated)

Unfortunate that I read this so long after it came out.  From what I understand, it is the progenitor of many of the scifi / cyberpunk tropes that I love so dearly.  Seeing them in such an early stage though, it just feels…wrong.

    Points of Impact review

3 votes, average: 3.67 out of 53 votes, average: 3.67 out of 53 votes, average: 3.67 out of 53 votes, average: 3.67 out of 53 votes, average: 3.67 out of 5 (3 votes, average: 3.67 out of 5, rated)
Marko Kloos is only the third author that I’ll grab anything they write, just as long as I see their name on the book.  The Frontlines series is fantastic and Kloos continues to bring the noise.

    Batman White Knight

3 votes, average: 3.67 out of 53 votes, average: 3.67 out of 53 votes, average: 3.67 out of 53 votes, average: 3.67 out of 53 votes, average: 3.67 out of 5 (3 votes, average: 3.67 out of 5, rated)
The best Batman story since The Dark Knight Returns, yes it’s that good, and yes you should read it as soon as possible.

Behemoth BMax & Behemoth Seppuku review

First in a series of three, this book really fucked with my head.

I believe this was the first of the Discovery books, and while it’s a great first entry, it’s not what I was really looking for in a Disco book.

Star Trek Discovery Drastic Measures review

This was even LESS of what I wanted from a Disco book.  There was no Discovery in this book at all!

This book really REALLY messed with my mind.  I’m a huge fan of this story’s fundamental core.

A collection of short stories, of which only a couple rise to being notable, most noticeably the Supergirl story which comes out of nowhere with how beautiful it is.  It also feels like the first few pages of a much longer story that I would love to read.

Final issue I think?  The cover I got was amazing and I loved the holographic nature of it.  The story was a bit goofy and guest starred a couple people that are actively doing other things in their own books, so it was somewhat weird to see them doing completely out of character things in Q&W. I don’t understand what’s going on with this story and why X-O seems like such a pushover for the entire storyline.

    Back Issues!

Starlight – What if a man from Earth was teleported to an alien planet where he overthrew a dictator and became a hero to the entire alien planet?  Would anyone on Earth believe him if he was teleported back without much proof?  What would happen if those aliens came back 50 years later asking for help again?

Avatar: The Last Airbender Trade Paperbacks – Diamond solicited about 10 different Avatar trades that were pretty cheap, so I ordered them all.  Four shipments later and they’re still sending me one or two books at a time instead of just fulfilling the entire order at once. They’re literally the worst part of my experiences with comic book collecting and I honestly hope their monopoly gets broken up sooner rather than later.

This story is getting bonkers, but not in a good way.  Lady has time to go to college, raise her kids, sleep, run a criminal empire, and isn’t ready to pull her own eyeballs out from her head?  Additionally, she’s taking “just” $800 a week from her criminal activities and saying it’s a “soldier’s pay”?  I don’t know much about military pay, but having $3200 a month take home sounds great, especially if it’s just side revenue to her main job.

    Dark Shadows review

    51AAaKbPmL Dark Shadows

Continuing their creative and commercially incandescent partnership (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands), superstar Johnny Depp and macabre movie master Tim Burton reunite yet again in this silver screen adaptation of the cult classic supernatural soap opera that follows the life and loves of New England vampire Barnabas Collins. Also starring Michelle Pfeiffer (Batman Returns), Eva Green (Camelot), Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter) and Australian newcomer Bella Heathcote as a young woman who finds herself inexplicably entwined in the vampire’s fated love story two centuries earlier, DARK SHADOWS brings to light Depp’s vampire from 1752 into the lava lamped vamp camp of 1972!

Insufferably angsty in nearly every scene, there’s a ton of star power in Dark Shadows but none of it shines very bright.

    Action Comics #1000 review

Celebrate 1000 issues of Action Comics with an all-star lineup of top talent as they pay tribute to the comic that started it all! From today’s explosive action to a previously unpublished tale illustrated by the legendary Curt Swan to the Man of Tomorrow’s future-this very special, oversized issue presents the best of the best in Superman stories!

Low quality art with stories that had no connection to the stories in Action Comics #990-999 and will have no impact on issue #1001. None of the stories even featured the CURRENT Superman, which is a time hopping nightmare for Booster Gold, the current “guardian of time” that tries to prevent Superman from destroying the time stream. See, Superman went back in time to see what the final moments of Krypton were like and somehow managed to break everything, but nevermind about that, that storyline was dropped with no real resolution so Superman could come back to the current timeline to watch Lois Lane die. Don’t worry about that though, Booster Gold changed the timeline to save Lois Lane.  He’s apparently left Superman and is off breaking Batman’s timeline now, so much for being the guardian of time!

None of this is mentioned in Superman #1000, which is a low effort, low quality cash grab from DC Comics. $8 for an 80 page comic anthology featuring 5-10 page stories of OTHER supermen.

Remember when superman was interesting? When he was dead?

I’m canceling this series after this issue, what a waste of time and money.

  • Justice League review

    91iaS3obztL. SL1500 810x1024 Justice League

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Maybe if they had been able to do a couple other hero movies before Justice League. It would have been great to see cyborg / Flash / Aquaman doing their own thing before they teamed up with Batman and Wonder Woman.

It would have been great to just leave the Superman stuff to the next film too.

Maybe would have been great if they had a villain that made any kind of emotional impacts.

Might have been cool to see The Batman doing his own thing too.

Would really have liked to have seen the Martian Manhunter, but I can see why they didn’t want to include a 100% CGI character (no wait…)

Lots of missed opportunities and missteps, including that unfortunate mustache removal CGI. Of the many things in this movie that made me feel uncomfortable, Henry Cavil’s face was the last thing I expected to give me the uncanny valley vibe.

    Justice League review

    917kl0qfr9L. SL1500 768x1024 Justice League

Saw this opening weekend a couple week ago and I was underwhelmed. DC has no singular vision of their characters and hasn’t built their universe correctly, so the stakes in this movie are just “meh”. There’s an overly CGI’d character that’s come to Earth to destroy everything, but no one in the audience knows who he is and doesn’t know why they should care. Not helping things very much is that there were two stylistically diametrically opposite directors working on the film, Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon, neither of whom had a great delivery of their work. I know in the past that Whedon swore off the big block buster type of films for a long while due to studio interference in Age of Ultron, so I really wonder what brought him back for more punishment with the DCU.

If you really enjoyed Man of Steel or Suicide Squad, Justice League may be of interest to you. If you’re like me and thought Batman v Superman was a step in the wrong direction, this is just another step in that wrong direction.

About the best online casino gaming graphics

Delving into the online casino gaming world of today, even for a bit, can get pretty overwhelming for anyone with any amount of gaming experience. The sheer number of options available can make it hard to select the right provider for one’s gaming needs. This is where the key factors for online casino selection come into the picture, and one of them is the graphics offered by these games. After all, what good would be the bonuses, deposits and options in a casino if it makes you feel as if you’ve regressed 10 years! You can seek help of third-party portals, for instance Casino No Deposit portal as well, which study, short-list and review many good top-end online casinos featuring excellent graphics.

When it’s about graphics, all top-level online casinos make sure that they pay attention to even the minutest details. Every player has his/her own sizing preferences; hence developers make sure that the cards or chips appear at their clearest-best in both their largest as well as smallest forms. So, if an online slot game has slick graphics, its gameplay would be more fluid and without any frustrating lags. In fact, the best casinos pay as much attention to their graphics as they do to their overall packages.

Let’s now quickly take you through some of the best developers of online casino games and their offerings.

    NextGen Gaming
This developer is at the top of the pile if we talk about the graphics of online slot games. They incorporate high-quality sound, reel bounce and 3-D design to provide the most immersive online slot gaming experience to the users. Some of the popular NextGen titles with amazing graphics include the ones belonging to the DC Comics collection like Batman and Superman slot games. Although NextGen Gaming may not be the most popular entity in the online casino gaming circles, they are definitely the most loved-one by the players. Their games always have stellar graphics and engaging user interfaces.

    NetEnt
NetEnt is another online casino game developer that’s well known for its original designs and beautiful graphics. It has earned widespread recognition for developing and publishing online casino games based on popular movie franchises and fairy-tales, each one having unmatchable and impressive visuals. How NetEnt separates itself from the competition is through its dedication to the concept of realism. You can find NetEnt casino games at many top-end online casinos.

    Playtech
Playtech is the developer behind some of the best graphics you may have seen in the online casino world. Their popular Marvel slots and the realistic feel provided by all their live dealer games keep the casino players constantly on their toes. The effective simulations and 3-D graphics delivered by Playtech have made them a name to reckon with in the online casino industry.

The gameplay in Playtech-manufactured games is often seamless and is accompanied by flawless design and original soundtracks, to deliver an overall thrilling feel to the players.

The Flash The Complete Series review

912RFMQjmL. SL1500 908x1024 The Flash: The Complete Series

When a bolt of lightning crashes through a police crime lab, a mix of electrically charged substances bathes chemist Barry Allen, transforming him into the Fastest Man Alive: The Flash (John Wesley Shipp). As the super fast hero uses his newfound speed to fight crime, only research scientist Dr. Christina McGee (Amanda Pays) knows of the changes that have transformed Barry into his secret identity. In season one, The Flash stops a gang of art thieves, saves his ex-policeman father from a vengeful criminal, thwarts a demented electronics genius and defeats a schemer named the Trickster (guest voice Mark Hamill), among other adventures.

I remember when this series was on TV, that first episode was absolutely amazing, but 20 years later I could only remember that one first episode. I had it on my wish list for a few years and a friend gave it to me as a holiday gift, then 8 years later I finally sat down and watched them all. Point 1 – Mark Hamil is in this series as the Trickster, a poor man’s Joker. Hamil absolutely kills it though, and it’s clear to see why he was selected to voice the actual joker in the Batman Animated Series. Another interesting Batman connection is that The Flash’s television series is composed by Danny Elfman, who had previously scored all of Tim Burton’s Batman films.

There was obviously a decision made to make the Flash more relatable to the Batman movie that had recently come out to great success, with a majority of the action taking place at night. Readers of the comics may find this somewhat odd, as Flash isn’t known for being a creature of the night, but it helped hide some of the rougher edges of the special effects, which to be honest are well done enough that I don’t see many problems with them, though holding them up to the modern Flash tv series isn’t suggested.

I enjoyed watching these, but I think they should have been shorter episodes and nearly every scene in every 22 episodes was on a set of some kind, even the outdoor scenes. No clue what the reasoning was for it, but it was obvious.

A View To A Kill review

    91Aanmx70rL. SL1500 768x1024 A View To A Kill

In pursuit of new computer super chips, Bond uncovers a plan which could destroy Silicon Valley and the West’s computer industries.

Interesting that both Sean Connery and Roger Moore’s final films came out sequentially, it’s a great pausing opportunity for me to start watching other movies to take a brief break from my Bond marathon.

A View To Kill opens with Bond in an arctic wasteland being pursued by Russian soldiers, with everyone involved on skis. There’s a brief moment where Bond uses some wreckage as a snowboard and the music switches from classic Bond-Action music to the Beach Boys, it was incredibly weird and misplaced for what was happening on screen. The scene ends with Bond leaving the Russians in his dust and he boards a submarine/boat that’s in the shape of an iceburg, it’s the most Austin Powers moment that I’ve seen in these films yet.

There’s a great plot thread that moves Bond from the old world to the new, both metaphorically and literally, as James investigates microchips at a massive and gloriously beautiful horse stable. It thread takes him from the stables in stuffy Paris to the cutting edge technology of Silicon Valley, where a very Superman esque plot to blow up a chunk of California is being put into motion by the Villain name Max Zorin, played by Christopher Walken, who apparently is a fan of playing characters named Max? He played a Max in Batman Returns as well.

This was a great send off for Roger Moore and a great transition from the old style of spy movie with insane yet some how believable to the newer over the top / nearly unbelievable films to come.

    Wonder Woman review

    AnjsUpr Wonder Woman

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

The DCU gets another entry in it’s pale facsimile of the MCU, while doing better than any of the other DCU movies (man of steel, batman v superman, suicide squad), still misses the mark in some significant ways.  The movie was fantastic in it’s first act, but the moment that the story started to get going it became to get bogged down by the same ill tempered and bland color palate that the other films found themselves in. The third act has a number of narrative problems, most of which have more to do with this being a comic book movie than anything else.

It’s better than what’s come before, and for that I’m grateful, the world’s better with better movies in it.  Gal Gadot made huge strides in making me believe she could handle the role, and apparently the film has already broken $100 Million for it’s opening weekend.  I’m hoping that November’s Justice League will have the same incremental increase in quality, maybe by the time they get around to making the Flash movie, they’ll be able to make something of the same caliber as Iron Man.

Post Script: my wife loved the film and couldn’t stop saying as much, I’d be interested in seeing how the female critics review the film. Anyone have any good ones to check in on?  The last film reviewer that I seriously followed was Roger Ebert.

    War Dogs review

The true story of two young men, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm America’s allies in Afghanistan.

WTF happened to Jonah Hill, last I saw him he was looking healthy and ready to take on the world. Did he gain back 200 pounds just for this role ala Christian Bale from The Mechanic to Batman Begins? Fat shaming aside, this was a fun movie with a hint of ‘based on a true story’. I’m still not sold on Miles Teller as a lovable do gooder, I still want to see him in a role where he’s a hated ass hole, is the main villain, and wins in the end.

Sideshow and Prime 1 Studio are proud to present Wonder Woman from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Princess Diana of Themyscira is the Amazon Princess, the immortal demigoddess daughter of Zeus and Queen Hippolyta. Now residing in “Man’s World”, she goes by the name Diana Prince while hiding within society as an antiquities dealer, and is known throughout the media as the first and foremost superheroine Wonder Woman. Standing approximately 40 inches tall, the Wonder Woman 1:2 scale statue is crafted with great attention to detail and likeness and is the ultimate Wonder Woman piece for all fans!

They’re currently asking $2,099.99 for this half scale statue. I have many inappropriate questions, but ultimately they all boil down to a simple question.

    Suicide Squad review

    ClP6FmtUkAI6TMt 691x1024 Suicide Squad

Bad guys asked to do bad things for a good reason. There’s a lot of reviews complaining about confusing plot points or saying that the movie was too visually dark, but I gotta say, while I can see why people would be complaining, I really enjoyed my time with the film, and wish there was more to be had.  The chemistry that Will Smith and Margo Robbie have is great, but throw in the insane chemistry between Jared Leto and Margo Robbie and you get something that’s just down right delightful to watch.  I would love to see a film with just the two of them blowing shit up with Batman forever in the background until the end of the movie.

I strongly suggest seeing this one in theaters, unlike the horrible Batman V Superman theatrical version, Suicide Squad is a great movie.

Take all the warmth and cleverness that was the Superman movie series, make it grim dark, make Superman a murder, throw in an admittedly awesome soundtrack and shake it up with touch of Zack Snyder‘s choices for plot development and character growth and you get one of the worse Superman films ever to visit a movie theater.  We watched this to get ready for Batman v Superman, and I kinda wish I hadn’t reminded myself how poorly I thought of this film.

    American Ultra review

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart star in this explosive action-adventure about a small-town slacker who discovers he’s a sleeper agent targeted by CIA operatives.
    Source: Amazon.com
    Director: Nimah Nourizadeh

I like the idea, it’s basically a stoner Jason Borne movie with a splash of ultra violence thrown in, but the execution is muddled, due in a large part by the comical genius that is Topher Grace. He’s amazing in this movie in that seems he was cast for a part that isn’t actually in the film, and then told to play a character that was completely made up on the set. The tone waffles from 420 Pineapple Express action to straight up blasts to the face by a shotgun with all the ensuing gore. Good actors were in this movie, but it was not a good film.  I’m really hoping this isn’t a portent of things to come with Jesse Eisenberg, as he’s the next Lex Luthor.

    Lego Dimensions game review

    What is LEGO Dimensions?

When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO worlds, different characters from DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings and The LEGO Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle bravely jump into the vortex and quickly find themselves fighting to save all of LEGO humanity.

Let creativity be the guide to a building and gaming adventure – journey through unexpected worlds and team-up with unlikely allies on the quest to defeat the evil Lord Vortech. Play with different minifigures from different worlds together in one LEGO videogame, and use each other’s vehicles and gadgets in a way never before possible. LEGO Bad Cop driving the DeLorean Time Machine…why not?! The LEGO Ninjago Masters of Spinjitsu fighting alongside Wonder Woman…yes, please! Get ready to break the rules, because the only rule with LEGO Dimensions is that there are no rules.

    Addon tested: Lego Portal 2

Bought this last night and thought it’d be wise to get a write up on the first play experiences while the memory is fresh in my head. I was actually at Target last night to get a Rock Band 4 kit, but they were completely out of them at the time, and for half the price they had Lego Dimensions. This isn’t a final review mind you, just initial impressions, most of which were pretty mind blowing that no one from any of the associated companies tested themselves to see how crummy of an experience setting it up is. First, you get the game at the store, there’s no way around that, no way to get the game digitally, as there’s a physical toy component to the game. It’s $100 for the base kit, which comes with the game on a disk, three minifigs, one mini-batmobile and one massive portal device that plugs into your console’s (very limited in number) usb ports. With this game, all my usb ports are full, as the Xbone only comes with three of them. TV tuner, lego and rockband adapter are what’s in mine.

First serious let down of the game is when you put the disk in and you’re told that there’s a 4.1 gb upgrade that’s mandatory if you’re going to play online, and since this game requires an internet connection, you have to get that download out of the way before you can play. Microsoft has a notoriously slow download process for their games, and this was shown yet again when it took about 2 hours to download about 60% of the game update, just enough for the quick launch to start and give us access to the first level of the game. So now it’s 10pm and all I’ve done is watch some TV while the console took it’s sweet as time downloading god only knows what. I thought that I’d be able to take some of that time building the lego pieces that came with the game, but someone make the super exciting decision to have the instructions for all the items be in-game only, so you have to wait for that initial download before you can even see the instructions for the minifigs. Don’t get me wrong, I can figure out the minifigs, but it’s the Portal turrents or the batmobile that I didn’t know every detail for, and having all those pieces sitting there mocking me was very frustrating. All in all it took about 4 hours to get the entire game downloaded, but as I mentioned there’s an early launch option when it gets to around 60%.

Playing the gaming has some odd choices in it too. In the end, I enjoyed the first level but there were times that they required you to put your controller down, get off the couch, walk over to your tv and move one of the minifigs to a different square. One time, that wouldnt’ be bad. Twice, would be annoying. After the 10th time doing this, I was ready to just give up on the game, as there’s no reason for interrupting the gameflow with those types of shenanigans. I can only hope they’re going to introduce an option to disable that type of gameplay as it really took me out of the enjoyment of that first level (which I won’t be describing here, as it was a delightful surprise to see where your first mission took you). Another drawback is that when you’re playing couch co-op it makes some interesting choices in how the screen is split: it doesn’t split it at all until you’re far enough away from your partner to warrant it, and even then it only splits off a portion of the screen, not an equal 50/50. It sounds odd but it actually works for the most part, it’s just weird to have your field of view change so quickly.

The reason I was so excited about this game was the addons that they have for it all ready. If you were to buy just the level packs, you’d spend about $100 for the base game, and about $180 in the expansion levels:

Level Packs ($30 Each / $180 for all)
    Back to the future
    Dr Who
    Ghostbusters
    Midway Retro Gamer
    Portal

    Scooby Doo
    DC Comics
    Jurassic World
    Ninjago
Fun Packs ($15 each / $390 for all)
Back to the Future Doc Brown
    Chrima Cragger
    Chima Eris
    Chima Laval
    DC Aquaman
    DC Bane
    DC Cyborg
    DC Superman
    DC Wonder Woman
    DR Who Cyberman
    Ghostbusters Slimer
    Ghostbusters Stay Puft
    Lego Movie Bad Cop
    Lego Movie Benny
    Lego Movie Emmet
    Lego Movie Unikitty
    Lord of the Rings Gimli
    Lord of the Rings Gollum
    Lord of the Rings Legolas
    Ninjago Lloyd
    Ninjago Nya
    Ninjago Sensei
    Ninjago Zane
    Simpsons Bart
    Simpsons Krusty
    Wizard of Oz Wicked Witch

I picked up the Portal expansion pack based on how much I loved the first two portal games and the fact there’s a new Portal song included. Sad part was that you can’t use Chell or any of the included turrets until the game is 100% installed, and you can’t build any of the units because all the instructions are in game…so I didn’t get to try it out in the first 5 hours I owned it. I’m an adult and can live with that, but if you bought your kids the Simpsons or Dr Who pack, they’d likely expect to be able to play those games as soon as you got home, afterall, isn’t the entire point of having a console system is that you can stick the disk in and just PLAY? Now it seems like there’s a several hour long process to install and download all sorts of bs for the game that’s on the disk. Ugh. I’m even more convinced now that the whole idea of consoles is pretty much dead and I should have just stayed a PC gamer.

But who am I kidding, I love me some Halo and Rock Band.
