  • Christopher Sequeira Interview With StarTrekBookClub.com

This week’s guest is Christopher Sequeira, author of 2023’s “Holo-Ween” mini series that just had it’s TPB collection released along with a gorgeous hardcover collected edition that was exclusive to the IDW webstore. I just got my copy in the mail this week!

We touch on his experiences with writing and publishing other comics, both as an independent author and as the editor in chief of IPI Comics, which currently has some pretty cool Sherlock and Lovecraft content coming out and even has a Human Fly series, which I was only familiar with as a Marvel comic, but there’s a cool back history to the character that he clues me in to.

We get into a long talk about Dracula, the history of the characters, the copyright shenanigans that have happened in the past and his involvement in a collection of Dracula stories that include some true stories.  No joke!

We move onto Sherlock and how fantastic it is to be able to play in that universe and how all the stories he publishes with the great detective are written in a way that the stories would fit right into the original books.

We wrap up the call by talking about possible sequels to the Holo-ween series, of which I’m a huge proponent!

    James Swallow Interview With StarTrekBookClub.com

This week’s conversation is with James Swallow who has an upcoming Trek novel coming out in 2025 titled “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Toward The Night“.  We start the conversation by talking about that story, obviously he wasn’t able to go into too much detail due to not wanting to spoil the story, but I’ll say this much, I verified I had a preorder for it after talking to him!

We follow that up by talking about his comic book work and how much he’s love to have a chance to write some Trek books, an endeavor I would fully support.  We move onto talking about his recent publishing experiences writing comics and the books that made his childhood, including the original Ghost Rider.  I even get an answer about which version of the character is his favorite.  The answer is obvious, but we have a cool discussion to get to that inevitable answer.

James is also an extremely accomplished Warhammer 40k author, with 20 books written in the franchise.  I get to completely geek out with him about how cool it is to have such a long running series of books that were authored by so many talented authors.

Even with the dozens upon dozens of tie-in books that he’s written, he’s written several of his own stories, including the Marc Dane series and two stand alone stories that have absolutely nothing to do with each other, Dark Horizon and Airside, but if you check out the covers for them, you’ll see why I asked if there were connections due to the aeronautically themed covers.  They’re truly not, but my question prompted a fun detour in the conversation to talking about airplanes for about half the interview.  If you like airplanes, you’ll love it.  If not…sorry?  Just enjoy the joy of two nerds nerding out over a fun topic that I know much less than the he does.  He does a great job of making me interested in both the books, so I’m going to likely end up reading them soon.

We move on from airplanes to talk about attending Shore-Leave, he’s gone to more shows than me, but we both agree it’s the best place to be if you enjoy Treklit.

    Adeena Mignogna Interview With StarTrekBookClub.com

I just had a fantastic conversation with Adeena Mignogna, who I met at Shore-Leave.  She was a presenter doing a talk about space junk, which was interesting enough to hold my attention for an hour and exactly what I was looking for, but she ended the presentation by saying she was going to be in the author room later that night.   I already had plans to stop by that room to pick up a bundle of comics and books and swung by her table, picking up a copy of Lunar Logic (which I’m now about 25% of the way through) and chatted with her for a few minutes.

Turns out she has not one, but TWO stories coming out in Star Trek: Explorer, the first of which should be out now, but I feel like I’ve been saying that for over a month at this point.  What’s going on with Titan?!

Lunar Logic is just her most recent book, it’s a pleasant stand alone story of a group of robots on the moon, and she has a series of books in a “Robots Galaxy” series that has a follow up collection of books that she’s currently working on now.

She has a wonderful podcast named “The Big Scifi Podcast” that you should out if you’re into science and science fiction!

Our hour long conversation includes a sidebar about how she enjoys world building and stories set in the background of the Trek Universe, astronomy, how her work is aimed at adults but is safe for kids, and her writing process, which involves getting up at 5am.  Yes, really.

I talk way too long about my love of IDW’s comic books, but I think I got my point across and I’m really hoping that she’ll check out some of my suggestions and let us know what she thinks!

Oh and in the last 30 seconds she throws it out there that she was able to get Bruce Horak to narrate the audio book version of Lunar Logic.

She has her very first Kickstarter for audiobook versions of her Robot Galaxy book series, It hasn’t officially launched yet, but it’d be real cool if you could click the ‘follow’ button it to help her along and you’ll be notified the moment it goes live.

Adeena can be found on her  website, Amazon, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Youtube.
