StarTrek.com is saddened to report the passing of Sci-Fi and Star Trek legend Harlan Ellison. Ellison, who turned 84 just last month, died this morning, June 28, at his home in California, according to his wife, Susan. Ellison wrote countless books, novellas, short stories, scripts, think pieces and more, and he won every imaginable genre writing prize, including multiple Bram Stoker Awards, Hugo Awards, and Writers Guild of America Awards. His most-significant Star Trek contribution was, of course, his teleplay for the TOS episode, “The City on the Edge of Forever.”
I’m a member of MoviePass, though I’m considering dropping them with the poor customer support I’ve been getting and all the hoops they keep popping up (now I have to take pictures of my ticket stubs? yuck!)
She’s obviously not understanding that it was her ACTIVE racism that was the issue, and that it does not relate very well to Gunn’s past highly offensive comments that he’s repeatedly apologized for.

Written by Matt Nix (APB, “Burn Notice”), directed by Bryan Singer (the “X-Men” franchise”) and executive-produced by Nix, Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Wolverine”), Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”), Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”), the series stars Stephen Moyer (SHOTS FIRED, “True Blood”) and Amy Acker (“Person of Interest”).
From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted”) and directed by Jon Favreau (“The Jungle Book,” “Iron Man”), THE ORVILLE is a one-hour science fiction series set 400 years in the future that follows the adventures of the U.S.S. Orville, a mid-level exploratory vessel. Its crew, both human and alien, faces the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of regular people in a workplace…even though some of those people are from other planets, and the workplace is a faster-than-light spaceship. In the 25th century, Earth is part of the Planetary Union, a far-reaching, advanced and mostly peaceful civilization with a fleet of 3,000 ships. Down on his luck after a bitter divorce, Planetary Union officer ED MERCER (MacFarlane) finally gets his chance to command one of these ships: the U.S.S. Orville. Determined to prove his worth and write a new chapter in his life, Ed finds that task all the more difficult when the First Officer assigned to his ship is his ex-wife, KELLY GRAYSON (Adrianne Palicki, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Friday Night Lights”). As the new commander, Ed assembles a qualified, but eccentric crew, including his best friend, GORDON MALLOY (Scott Grimes, “ER,” “Justified”), who has problems with authority, but is the best helmsman in the fleet; DR. CLAIRE FINN (Penny Johnson Jerald, “24,” “The Larry Sanders Show”), one of the Union’s most accomplished physicians; BORTUS (Peter Macon, “Shameless,” “Bosch”), an alien from a single-sex species; ISAAC (Mark Jackson, “That Royal Today”), an artificial life-form from a machine society that thinks biological life-forms are inferior; navigator JOHN LAMARR (J. Lee, FAMILY GUY, “The Cleveland Show”), whose casual humor cuts through even the most dire situations; ALARA KITAN (Halston Sage, “Neighbors,” “Goosebumps”), a young, inexperienced security officer whose home planet’s high gravity gives her superior physical strength; and YAPHIT, a gelatinous creature voiced by comedian Norm Macdonald (“The Middle,” “Saturday Night Live”). Somehow, Ed and Kelly must put the past behind them and, with the help of the crew, navigate fascinating and sometimes dangerous adventures in outer space, as well as the tumultuous and captivating day-to-day personal relationships with their colleagues.
O’Shea Jackson Jr steals the show once again, as the only likable character in this entire film. It’s a great film with some pretty great firefights and plot developments, but all the characters are written in such a way to be so hateable that I was perfectly fine when people started getting shot in the 3rd act.
Quickly becoming my favorite of the MCU movies (watch out Iron Man 2!), it’s now on Netflix! I mean I own a copy on MoviesAnywhere, but it’s on Netflix too.
A fun movie that feels like it’s a little too late to capture the energy of the original movie that came out nearly 15 years ago. It was a fun but predictable story with fun and interesting superheroes.

Challenged on all sides, he is determined to surpass his origins and succeed as a Starfleet officer aboard the U.S.S. Shenzhou. But when Saru breaks protocol in order to prove himself to his crewmates, what begins as a vital rescue mission to save a vessel in distress soon escalates out of control. Forced into a command role he may not be ready for, Saru is caught between his duty and the conflicting agendas of two antagonistic alien races. To survive, he will need to seek a path of peace against all odds, and risk compromising the very ideals he has sworn to uphold….
Going to spoil this movie, it’s been out for 60 years, so if you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to be spoiled, stop here.
The “monster” is an atomic powered snail that gets all angsty, gets killed by a sailor, then it’s kids go on a killing rampage in one small town. There’s more than one of them and they never leave that one zip code, so the title of the movie is a completely lie.
If you can get past such a brutal truth, you’ll find this to be a fun creature feature with some fun set pieces.
For a series of 1991 video games, this is one polished collection! The games themselves are simple and not all that great, but the loading “room” for the three games is damn nice.
This is the first time I’ve done an official previews order for comic books, where I went through their entire catelog of bullshit they’re selling and pick out what I’m interested in and give it to the local comic shop (LCS), who adds it all to a spread sheet, then manually go through the Diamond website and orders all the shit. It’s one of the most backwards ass systems that I’ve personally used. There’s talk about a modernized system coming “soon” where you just log into the Previews site and select what you want, then 60 days later it shows up at your LCS, but who knows when and if that system will ever be delivered.
This is an enjoyable movie, just as long as you know next to nothing about the Star Wars universe. If you do, boy howdy are there are some problems going on here that were started as small problems in The Force Awakens and only get worse in this sequel. The problems I had with TLJ:
Way too short of a time period being covered in the movie, it’s only about 72 hours of actual in universe time from the moment Rey meets Luke to the confrontation on the red dust planet.
Now they’re concerned about fuel? Why now? Also, what happened to the rest of the Galactic fleet? Where’s the New Republic?
The entire side adventure with Rose and Finn is dumb dumb dumb and only serves to distract from the main story that’s going on.
Kirk Hamilton is the Editor-At-Large for Kotaku.com, and he’s always been a huge fan of music in games. He studied jazz at the University of Miami, and ended up out in the Bay Area being a saxophonist for a while and teaching music. I’ve always enjoyed talking with Kirk about game music, so I asked him on to talk about what some of his more recent favorites are lately.
Patrons, you’ll have access to a bonus clip of Kirk and I talking about playing Destiny 2, which was a lot newer when we spoke last year.
Kirk is great – I’m glad he loves game music so much

A dark dark comedy about fortune, fame, social media, and how people try to capture all three buy leveraging what little they have. It gets pretty dark at the end, but it was an enjoyable journey.
Utterly enjoyable blaxploitation film starring Pam Grier, it went places I didn’t think it would and she ended up being much more of a hero character than I initially thought.
Found a UV code for like $3, so hell yeah, godzilla got watched. I wasn’t posting about watched movies when this came out in 2014, but I remember feeling like they wasted Brian Cranston’s great acting potential by doing what they done did do to him here, but now that we’ve had a longer time from how excellent Breaking Bad was, I think it was a good decision to not make him the primary focus of the film. There were also a few complaints back in ’14 about how the film didn’t immediately focus on the giant monsters, but that’s another decision that definitely worked out for the better.
It’s been over 3 years since we saw Godzilla, here’s hoping the upcoming quasi sequel will hold up to this first one, I really enjoyed it!
This is the same exact movie by the same director of Aurora, it’s not the first time I’ve seen a movie remade with a larger budget, but it’s weird there was only a year between the two releases. This is a great movie with well traveled story points, it moves incredibly slowly and the budget seems haphazardly spent on just John Cusack and the last 10 minutes of special effects. By all means, do not spend too much to watch this, but it was a fun low budget ride that I suggest you take if you’re like me and are a fan of Singularity stories.
