    Solo A Star Wars Story

    81YFv7dOM3L. SL1500 Solo: A Star Wars Story

Through a series of daring escapades, Han Solo befriends his mighty future copilot Chewbacca in an epic adventure directed by Ron Howard and written by Jonathan & Lawrence Kasdan.

I still think that this movie is among the best of the Star Wars movies that Disney has released, it’s a shame that they’ve decided to slow down movie production due to the response to both Solo and The Last Jedi. The stench of Episode 8 is killing our hopes for a continuation of that amazing third act reveal, something that I think could have pushed the Star Wars movies further than they’ve gone in the past. Guess we’re going to just end up with more “safe” movies that are essentially remakes of the original trilogy.

The 4k/HDR and special features on the disk were great, especially the deleted scenes. I’m shocked that there’s no behind the scenes content with the original directors (Phil Lord and Chris Miller), but this is likely due to Disney not wanting to muddy the waters too much and confuse the casual fans.

The state grand jury report on child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church details a child porn ring in the Diocese of Pittsburgh

We can only hope that they go for the death penalty in these cases, then shut down the organizations that have been found to be harboring such people.

The adventure begins when a call for help from a research station on Mars sends a team of mercenary Marines, led by The Rock, into action in this unrated, extended version of the film.

    It’s on Netflix now!

This was made back when The Rock was trying his hand at being the heel in movies and hadn’t gone all in on shaving his head. I’m happy he’s bald now, looks much better.

I had forgotten that Karl Urban was in this film and since I love Dredd so much, I was happy to see him here as the guy that shoots stuff. That’s my favorite role for him!

    Aliens in the city.

Purchased on iTunes, migrated to Movies Anywhere and watched on my roku via the FandangoNOW app.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this one and didn’t have much memory of anything that happened in it, other than the ending where Glover was gifted a pistol from the council of Predators. It doesn’t hold up as well as the original Predator due to the dystopian city it’s set in, and the supposed time frame of “the near future” of 1997, where drug lords and gangs are in open warfare while the police chief is busy getting rich on a vacation and only appears to yell at our main character. It’s a fun movie, but not a great movie.

    Aliens vs Predator Requiem Uncut

MV5BMTI5NDY2NDUwM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNzQxMTA3. V1 Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (Uncut)

Warring Alien and Predator races descend on a rural Colorado town, where unsuspecting residents must band together for any chance of survival.

As a direct continuation of the previous AvP movie, the big deal with this movie that it was rated R. If you notice that the title of the film is “requiem” (a moarning or gathering for the recently dead) and that lines up with the desire to let people know this is going to be a hard R movie, you get a cookie! The story fits pretty well into the franchise, but problem here though is both the color saturation and how dark everything ended up being. I watched this via Vudu and honestly thought I had accidentally purchased the SD version and not the HD / bluray version. After stopping the movie, verifying I had the right version, I hopped on the net and found a number of people complaining about the same thing on various forums and I think I even remember this being an issue when I originally watched this in the theater. It’s obvious that they were using the darkness to hide some CG sins, and I can’t honestly say that was a bad choice.

One of the better parts is the Pred-alien, what a fantastic creature! And the resolution of the story was absolutely fantastic, movies like these frequently pull their punches, so I’m always impressed when they go the distance. I wish there was some follow up with the stinger scene in the most recent “The Predator” film, other than showing all the Predator tech in a cabinet. How come 10 years later we don’t have laser cannons of our own?
