DCs Swampthingy 2019

This show is really quite good. It retains the feel and much of the story that made the character immensely popular; though not quite as good as Doom Patrol and Legion, it is so much better than a lot of broadcast TV, such as Whore Island, Big Bother (about nothing), and The Butcherette.

It’s sad that Warner Bros/DC canceled this right after the first episode broadcast; but, as usual it all comes down to money; North Carolina reneging on a filming contract vs the Warner Bros money machine.

Directed by Jon Favreau. With Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor. After the murder of his father, a young lion prince flees his kingdom only to learn the true meaning of responsibility and bravery.

A stunning visual treat that no one asked for and no one needed. There’s a ton of big names here, some of them with the most annoyingly distracting voices that it pulled me out of the immersion completely, like Seth Rogan as the warthog and John Oliver as the bird. I like some of the minor changes they made, like Scar not really being in control of the horde of hyenas, or the slight change of what “Hakuna Matata” really means.

I mean, both changes make the story more depressing and sad, but it was already a story about the death of a parent and the dark places that takes us.
