A Sadly Predictable Storm Approaches As Netflixs The Witcher Looks To Cast A NonWhite Ciri
Paul Tassi (author of above piece) has a great point, but he’s pointing the finger at the wrong suspect. I firmly believe that if you have a recipe to make a great cake, if you change some of the major components of it, it’s not going to be the same cake at the end of the day. Maybe it’ll still be a good cake, but it won’t be what’s on the box.

I would argue that Mark Lee was the main focus of this story with Mel Gibson being the supporting actor, but who am I to argue with Amazon’s marketing fluff for a 37 year old movie. And what a movie it was, showing the absolute joy that the men felt before signing up to go off to war, how they expected it to be an exciting and rousing event that would define them, turning them into wise old men that did their part to save their country. As with most of the WW1 movies I’ve watched nearly 2/3 of the movie is dedicated to showing just how those expectations were set, then the final 1/3 of the movie is a brutal and ultimately final resetting of those expectations. The battle that they portray was a horrible one, not so much because of the difficulty of their mission, but because of the futility of the orders they were given, being asked again and again to throw themselves into meatgrinders with no thought for tactics or consequences.
WW1 was a stupid war, but this was a great movie.
Iron Fist Season 2

A much better experience than the first season, still not enough to really capture my attention until the last two episodes when some pretty insane stuff starts to happen. Alice Eve was absolutely perfect as Typhoid Mary, and the combination of Jessica Henwick (Wing) and Simone Missick (Knight) makes for some tantalizing possibilities. I never really read the comics, so there’s a lot that gets past me, but I’m excited to see what they’re going to do with the threads they’ve left danging at the end of season two.
Level 99 Alexander Brandon Aven Colony
Tags:Gaming, Level With Emily Reese, Music
Alexander Brandon has been making music for games for quite some time, like back to the days of Unreal and Unreal Tournament.
His new project is Aven Colony, a city-building strategy game where you build a colony on an alien planet. The music changes and develops as you build your colony successfully, slowly adding more and more acoustic elements after beginning with more synth and electronic sounds.
Alex is also a voice actor (he’s Amaund Motierre in Skyrim, the fella who asks you to assassinate the Emperor), so we chat about how he got into that part of the games industry.

At no point did I “wake up” on an island. I mean, I was in a cave and I had to wander out, with no directions, no input, no humor, no story, no fun, but some pretty flowers to look at. I gave up on it after 30 minutes of no dialogue and witnessing absolutely nothing of value.
want to play the witness without paying for it, here, just imagine doing this maze and you’ve done absolutely everything this game has to offer:

You know how something was wrong with Superman’s face in Justice League? I felt that was about half the ladies in this film, mostly with Sandra Bullock, it was like they were using one of those weird looking makeup apps on her for most of her scenes. Mind you, everyone in this film is at the top of their careers, but this felt like a movie by numbers.

A bonkers movie with a great soundtrack but absolutely BONKERS storyline. It was enjoyable, but unexpected from Dan Stevens, though I guess seeing his work on Legion should have prepared me for this.

Tron Legacy

TRON: LEGACY is an action-packed adventure set in a digital world unlike anything captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Oscar®- and Golden Globe®-winner Jeff Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the abandoned Flynn’s Arcade — that could have only come from his father — he finds himself pulled into a world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a visually-stunning digital universe — created by Kevin himself — which has become far more advanced with never-before-imagined vehicles, weapons, and landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape.
Purchased again and watched again, this has been around $20 for the last couple years for a digital copy, and itunes just dropped it down to $10, so this was an easy choice to make, especially since it’s a Disney movie and a part of MoviesAnywhere. So I purchased on itunes but watched on the Vudu app on my roku 4k. There’s nothing about this movie that I can complain about, literally everything about it makes me happy. I just wish they had been able to get the franchise back off the ground, but it’s looking like we’re going to have to wait another 30 years before we see a third movie in the series.
Sure, there was a brief (but glorious!) tv show, and while I was happy to have seen it while it was on, that too didn’t survive very long and didn’t get to tell the story that I think they were trying to tell.
