Jodorowsky’s Dune

Directed by Frank Pavich. With Alejandro Jodorowsky, Michel Seydoux, H.R. Giger, Chris Foss. The story of cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s ambitious but ultimately doomed film adaptation of the seminal science fiction novel.

I was pretty well hung over when I watched this and not particularly wanting to watch something with subtitles, but this was interesting enough to hang in with it. I don’t think I was familiar with Jodorowsky before this documentary, but he had a particular cult of personality going for him that was going to result in some absolutely bonkers visuals for his version of Dune, but we’ll never see that film.

From a day and age that permitted such tomfoolery, I watched the UNRATED version, which I believe includes about 15 seconds more nut sack than the theatrical version.

I still tear up during the song at the end. “boats ‘n’ hoes” indeed.
