Empire of Dreams: The Story of the ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

Empire of Dreams: The Story of the ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy: Directed by Edith Becker, Kevin Burns. With Robert Clotworthy, Walter Cronkite, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg. An in-depth making of documentary about the original Star Wars trilogy, covering the productions of the three films and their impact on popular culture.

Released in 2004 with interviews from the 1990’s, but with some scenes updated to their 4k versions, this is a weird hybrid of time traveling opinions from many of the behind the scenes characters and most of the on screen actors. It’s good, but I distinctly remember some of these interviews from my VHS sets back in the day.

    Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Created by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, Jenny Lumet, Gene Roddenberry. With Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Christina Chong. A prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, the show will follow the crew of the USS Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike.

Finally, a Star Trek series that I can get into, and boy howdy did I get into it. It took them over 6 seasons of Disco and Picard, but there’s finally a Trek for me! Anson Mount knocks it out of the park as Christopher Pike and the entire supporting cast, down to the unnamed people walking around in the backgrounds, are exactly what I’ve been craving for YEARS.

My one complaint is that it’s a short season, just 10 episodes. Way too short for something I like, yet somehow too long for something I don’t.

    hmm.

Star Trek: Vanguard: Summon The Thunder

The Taurus Reach: a remote interstellar expanse that holds a very old and potentially cataclysmic secret, the truth of which is feared by the Tholians, coveted by the Klingons, and dubiously guarded by the Federation.

Second book in the Vanguard series and things are moving much more quickly now, with Klingons Romulans, and Tholians all making major moves that result in the complete destructions of planets and entire solar systems. There’s great story being set up here and I’m happy to take the ride.

This book does remind me that i need to get the “before you read this” thing set up on my star trek book site, because there’s a series of books that came before this that they keep referencing, and man I feel like I’m missing out on something.
