Directed by Josh Boone. With Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga. Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.

The much maligned, much delayed, and the unfortunate finale to the Fox / Marvel comic book series of mutant movies has finally been released. I agree with many that this is not a knock out of the park as the final swan song for the x-men franchise, but it was never intended to be such a thing. If you’re big into the history of the x-men and grew up as a child of the 80’s, then New Mutants is going to hit much differently than if you’re just a layman going to the movies, so take this with the knowledge that I cut my comic book teeth on the New Mutants comic books series when it was launch. I really enjoyed every aspect of the film and while I have things to complain about, this is going to be one of those movies that I buy in physical form.

Not the steel book though, that thing looks like it was designed by someone that didn’t even see the movie.

Played right through it in about four days and only installed it because it was included in GamePass, which now includes whatever the EA version of gamepass is named.

It’s a fun game that really hits hard if you’ve been watching the last 20 years of Star Wars movies and television shows, a little less so if you’re not an fervent fan. No spoilers, but I was unhappy with the ending. While I didn’t enjoy the final 30 seconds of the story, boy howdy was I impressed with the content before that, along with the gameplay that was just barely starting to feel repetitive towards the end. It should be no surprise to anyone that you start with a few Jedi powers, then work your way up to having more Jedi powers, along with collection various bits and bobs along the way, and that gameplay loop worked very well for my tastes.

The way the game ends leaves the opportunity for plenty of sequels, so here’s hoping they do something cool with the storyline!
