    The Punisher

Directed by Jonathan Hensleigh. With Thomas Jane, John Travolta, Samantha Mathis, Laura Harring. An undercover FBI agent becomes a vigilante assassin and sets out to unleash his wrath upon the corrupt businessman who slaughtered his entire family at a reunion.

This is the one with Thomas Jane, which isn’t as bad as I remember it being, still feels weird. I remember living in the Tampa area when they were filming and it made the nightly news several times, the first being for some explosions that were due to go off, and another to let people know that they were going to be throwing completely fake money out of a building and to not be too concerned about either event.

Regardless, this was a sanitized version of The Punisher that wasn’t disrespectful to the original stories they lifted content from, but still felt like it was too clean for what I was expecting.

    BATGIRL

    Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Directed by Burr Steers. With Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote. Five sisters in 19th century England must cope with the pressures to marry while protecting themselves from a growing population of zombies.

I have yet to watch this movie while sober, I think this is the third time that i’ve seen it, and yet again I was drinking…again…

Anyways, I was surprised to see Lena Headly, and I was surprised at the sudden ending, but I enjoyed the entire film so much, yet again. I would thoroughly enjoy seeing more of these types of films, with classic period films being twisted up with zombies.

Bill & Ted Face the Music

Directed by Dean Parisot. With Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, Kristen Schaal, Samara Weaving. Once told they’d save the universe during a time-traveling adventure, 2 would-be rockers from San Dimas, California find themselves as middle-aged dads still trying to crank out a hit song and fulfill their destiny.

I think there’s something to be said for waiting so long between the second and third movies in the franchise. Giving the character room to breath and find (or in this case, not find) their callings and move on with their lives. I feel like at times I’m bill or ted, just floundering around in a sea of possibility, but with no actualization and no time travel phone booth to assist me in finding my one true calling.

or at least some mideval babes to marry and have cool kids with.

    Mulan

Directed by Niki Caro. With Yifei Liu, Donnie Yen, Li Gong, Jet Li. A young Chinese maiden disguises herself as a male warrior in order to save her father.

Distinctly in the “this didn’t need to be made” category, as well as the “this is obviously made for an audience that isn’t me” category as well. The camera angles, storylines, and special effects feel more like a Chinese made movie than any other Disney movie I’ve seen, and actually reminds a whole bunch of a Netflix series named “Ice Fantasy“, for better or worse.

There’s a ton of justified outrage from Americans who are horrified to hear about the slave labor taking place in the same area that Disney filmed this, and horrified to hear the lead actress denounce democratic supporters in Hong Kong. The sad thing is, with how much noticeable CGI and weird special effects choices, this could have been filmed on the Moon and no one would be able to tell the difference between the two versions.

To end on a positive note though, the costumes were fantastic, huge fan of the fashion going on here.
