    Selena

Directed by Gregory Nava. With Jennifer Lopez, Edward James Olmos, Jon Seda, Jackie Guerra. The true story of Selena Quintanilla, a Texas-born Tejano singer who rose from cult status to performing at the Astrodome, as well as having chart topping albums on the Latin music charts.

Selena was played by the arguably now more famous Jennifer Lopez, who I forgot is a pretty damn good actress as well.

Such a shame about the end of Selena’s life. What an absolute waste.

This was a good movie but man what a downer.

Replacing many humans in key leadership positions, theWraiths’ plan to dominate the planet-and everyone on it-isgaining momentum. But Rom finds resistance from the humans as well, who fear heis just another alien invading Earth. He is joined in the battle by two otherSolstar Knights…but are they here as friends or foes?

Collects all 14issues of the series, the 2017 Annual, and the Rom: Revolutionone-shot.

As mentioned in a previous review, I found this entire series for cheap. There’s some funny business with the IRL character aspects, I think when the character made the jump from Marvel to IDW he lost the name of the planet he was from, as well as the subtitle of “Space Knight”, which is an honest shame, because it’s an awesome subtitle. The story gets moving in fits and starts and feels much like the origin story from the 80’s, but never really gets moving in a direction that I was super happy with, though I do like the new supporting characters. It was sadly canceled with issue 14, though the storyline was wrapped up in a separate mini series with the micronauts, which was satisfying enough to me that I would suggest reading the two series back to back as if they were one.

    Revolution

THE REVOLUTION BEGINS! Explosions rip across the Earth-and all signs of blame point to OPTIMUS PRIME and the TRANSFORMERS! G.I. JOE refuses to go quietly-and they assemble heroes big enough to stop the invaders! ACTION MAN and M.A.S.K. fight for humanity-but where do ROM and the MICRONAUTS stand? Celebrating more than a decade of stories by IDW and HASBRO, this unprecedented event draws everything together-and leaves nothing standing. The REVOLUTION is here-TAKE A STAND! Collects Revolution issues #0-5.

I had this series, as well as the Rom relaunch from IDW, from a sale that a local comic shop had before they eventually went out of business (rip). I remember really enjoying the overly sappy series that Marvel did back in the 80s, so I was happy to get the entire IDW Rom series as well as the IDW Revolution series for extremely cheap. I started with the Revolution series and it was perfectly MEH. Nothing too amazing, nothing too world shattering and I’m not sure I could even recommend it, if not for the pure spectacle of mashing together GI Joe, MASK, Transformers, Action Man, Micronauts, and Rom. The story is pure non-sense and the art is again, just perfectly MEH.

    Invader ZIM Enter the Florpus

Directed by Hae Young Jung, Young Kyun Park, Jhonen Vasquez. With Richard Steven Horvitz, Rikki Simons, Andy Berman, Melissa Fahn. ZIM discovers his almighty leaders never had any intention of coming to Earth and he loses confidence in himself for the first time in his life, which is the big break his human nemesis, Dib has been waiting for.

A while ago I went back to re-watch some Invader Zim and I just could not do it. For whatever reason, I just couldn’t get back into the show, either it hadn’t aged well, or I had aged too much. Luckly, this movie does an absolutely fantastical job of pulling me back to the franchise, with a stupid as heck story that’s delightfully executed, something that I adored about the original, irrelevant show.

I’d say if you liked the original, you’ll enjoy this movie.
