I’ve been split on the decision to make this a weekly release instead of a Netflix style one-season-at-once release. I think I’m happier that they did it this way so that I could spent a full 6 days talking about the previous episode and coming up with possibly cool ideas, but then having them go in completely different directions than I thought they would go in. As a first effort in the TV world, they hit it out of the park. As a television series that needed to stand on it’s own, they did a good enough job that I’ll give any missteps a pass.

Next week is the Legends episode for Falcon and Winter Soldier, hopefully it’s been than the one they did for WandaVision.

I’ve had my Fitbit Charge 4 for a couple months now and I desperately miss my previous version that broke due to my own misadventures. The one I had before was the “Fitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate” and it was a great device, right up until it died for reasons unknow, but likely from being abused too often, it ended up with a crack on the screen and I think that let in some water that finally did it in. The Charge 4 is a lesser device in nearly every aspect:

I do miss the physical button. I was never unsure of which side of the watch I was looking at, and never unsure if I was pressing a button or just touching a side panel that does absolutely nothing.

When charging the device, you absolutely have to have it oriented in a very specific direction or it won’t charge. The previous version had that physical button, so I always knew that would go to the left, but this one, who knows what direction it’s in once the screen is dead, it will go in the charger either direction and feels exaction the same both ways. The previous version would light up the screen too, but this one just sits there looking stupid.

The previous version had a 5-10 second light that would stay on until the end of the count, which was perfect for when I would get up to go pee at 3am, I don’t need a full night light, just 10 seconds to get to the bathroom, then 10 seconds to get out of it. I don’t need the light to turn off if I happen to move my arm in a mystery direction, and I don’t need it to turn off on some random schedule.

I’ve posted about all this before but I’m still frustrated by it and now I just want to throw it in the trash and buy one of the old Charge 2s.

Cinderella TV Movie

Directed by Robert Iscove. With Brandy Norwood, Bernadette Peters, Veanne Cox, Natalie Desselle Reid. Although mistreated by her cruel stepmother and stepsisters, Cinderella is able to attend the royal ball through the help of a fairy godmother.

My wife made some direct comparisons of ‘Bridgerton’ and this show with how little they cared about how race in the originally all white roles. Turns out that it doesn’t really matter at all if they’re black, white, or asian, and it was a fun story from beginning to end. It was nice to see Whoopie in the midst of the high of her movie / television carrier, and Whitney Houston as the fairy god mother was a brave choice that worked for the most part. Jason Alexander as the royal assistant / best friend of the Prince was weird, as I never really thought of him as a physical comedian, but that’s what this role called for and that’s what he gave. On the list of things they swung for that didn’t work for me though is the accents that came and went depending on the scene and I could never really nail down what they were shooting for, either British or middle ages European perhaps?

If I remember correctly, this was originally made for tv, which explains the ‘standard definition’ and 4:3 screen ratio, but i’m happy to hear that the audio track appears to be a 5.1 pleasure to listen to. If you haven’t seen this version of the story before, give it a spin, it’s currently on Disney+.

Directed by Lena Khan. With Matilda Lawler, Alyson Hannigan, Ben Schwartz, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. The adventures of a young girl and a squirrel with superpowers.

A movie that wears it’s heart on it’s sleeve with slow narration from the young actress, so at times it feels like a read along, but that’s less of a complaint than it is just a statement of what the movie is. Ben Schwartz as the father seems like great casting, and Alyson Hannigan as the mother is fantastic, though I feel a weird sort of insult in having one of my teenage crushes playing a mother in a kid’s film.

It’s a good film and it delivers exactly what I was hoping, a squirrel with superpowers and the voice of Sonic The Hedgehog driving him around in a tiny four door car.
