I really wanted to like this book, but while it has some amazing spaceship inclusions, it also includes in no certain order:
The Iotians, which IMHO are truly the bottom of the barrel of TOS species, they’re the ones that emulate 1930’s American gangsters because a printed book was left behind after first contact. Yet another example of why the second contact teams ala Lower Decks is often more important than the first contact ones!
Tree transplants from other planets going to new planets, Why not just replicate them on site?
Antiquities from Romulus being sold off in trade markets, which makes sense, but it introduces a character that I absolutely despised from TNG.
Fanny flaps, which means something much different if you’re reading this outside of the US.
A Tucker car, which is used as a torpedo. Yes, I’m serious. If you’d like to learn more about the “Tucker Torpedo”, there’s a great movie that I own that I would suggest.
One thing I did like:
The mention of “Moriarty Protocols” designed to keep holograms from taking over your ship and trying to kill you. Seems useful in this day and age of actual Professor Moriarty coming back for Season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard”.
To wit, this is not a bad book, in fact, it’s very well written! I just don’t care for the subject matter and wish there was more Trek in it than what we got. I know that John Jackson Miller can write some darn good Trek stories and that what I was hoping for. Instead, we got an accountant pal’n around with a Rios, a character I didn’t much care for in the TV show.
Stargirl ending with season 3

SG was routinely at the top of the list of shows I would check out when it was TV time, shame they’re ending so soon, but at least they’re at the top of their game!

I’m well aware of the stigma that movie tie in video games have but I was honestly hoping for more from this game than what I ultimately found, which was a game with a threadbare plot, bugs all over the place, and some hard crashes that really frustrated me at times. The gameplay and mechanics are solid enough, with puzzles that never felt like they were stale and levels that were just long enough to be interesting. If you’re looking for plot, this isn’t the place for you though. Same situation if you wanted to see the exteriors of the USS Prodigy, because the exterior of the ship doesn’t really show up in the game. Sure you see it in the distance, but the opening and closing of the game are hand drawn single frames that are dragged across a similarly hand drawn and single framed background.
I’ll leave you with this, one of the final messages from the game, and I wish you great “Strenght”:
Star Trek: Vanguard: In Tempest’s Wake

Ah ha! I knew there was another book in the series after the “final book” and it’s more of an after action report involving the TOS crew than an actual story progression of Vanguard, but boy howdy is it a great look back at the entire situation that wound up costing lives and a significant amount of Federation hardware. Something that I enjoyed greatly about this series was how well it fit in with the movies and tv show that were happening in other parts of the universe with guest appearances by notable scientists and one off mentions of blowing things up that would play majorly into Star Trek movies set after this series of stories.
I’ve heard a rumor there’s more Vanguard to come, but I have no clue how they’re going to manage that. I look forward to the effort none the less!

Well this is it, the absolute end of the series, with absolutely no possible way to have another book in the series. This cover is fantastic and I loved it so much I spend a few moments before I read it soaking in every detail, but it turns out that there’s a huge bit of a spoiler there, but it’s all good, it didn’t ruin the story, but I could see a huge moment coming well before it happened.
I’m really happy with the energy that this series moved with and how this story wrapped up, now I’m on to the next book series!
