It’s four powerhouse tales in one colossal comic, as some of comics’ most legendary talents launch new tales of Firestorm, Metamorpho, Metal Men and Sugar and Spike—that’s right, Sugar and Spike!

Two reason to pick this up:

1 – it sorta features one of the characters from the TV show of the same name.
2 – Sugar & Spike, the goofy / chibi characters from the 50’s are reimagined as hard boiled detectives that track down unique threats to superheroes.

The Metal Men and Firestorm stories are what you would expect from those character, nothing too exciting, but as I mentioned above, the S&S story is fantastic and interesting, and the Metamorpho is a ‘man out of place’ type of story that mostly takes place on another planet, which is great.

If you can find this for free, I’d say check it out. I got it for nearly free in a $0.25 bin at a local comic shop.

Amazon gave me #1, #25, and some other random issue of this series, of which I had no experience with. I was somewhat interested in the character and universe because of the movie, but it turns out there isn’t much from the movie that was included in this first volume. I believe the original is in French, and I read a pretty well done translation on my Kindle. One thing that I did miss was the intelligent viewer, which would take each panel and put it up on the screen solo. I’m guessing that’s something that publishers have to opt into, because I got here was a quarter page view or a full page view.

Purchased on August 1, 2016 according to Amazon, but i have no memory of why I bought it, I just know that it was the next book on my kindle that wasn’t read yet. Yes, my queue is that far behind, but in my defense, I routinely put other books, movies, and general life stuff ahead of the absolute queue.

There’s a distinct Blade Runner feel to the whole book, but that feeling is uneven and at times convoluted with other story concepts that really don’t fit well with the main story line, at times going in and out of different situations at a jarring speed that had me going back and forth between chapters just to see if I had missed something or not. I don’t think I did, but I honestly think this book was either written by more than just one person, or was adapted from a much shorter story and had side plots added in to pad the length.
