    Wonder Woman 1984

Directed by Patty Jenkins. With Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal. Rewind to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah.

I’m disappointed that I spent $15 on HBO Max to watch this. It’s an ok film, a generic super hero story with a well used storyline that doesn’t even use Wonder Woman in a way that makes her feel like a great super hero (which she is) but more of a generic character that gets new powers by just thinking about them for a while. There’s bad physics all over the place, and they’ve completely changed both of the main villain’s origins, which is always a strong indicator that the writers just didn’t understand the source materials and couldn’t be bothered to try to work them into their own unique and special story. I’m particularly bitter about Max Lord, who really isn’t like his comic book version at all, other than in name alone. He was one of my favorite parts of the Justice League comics back and in the day and it’s a shame to see him reduced in nearly every way in this film.

Additionally, there’s a mid credits scene that leaves me with a few questions, but I’ll leave those for another day when I do a rewatch.
