    Jolt

Jolt: Directed by Tanya Wexler. With Kate Beckinsale, Jai Courtney, Stanley Tucci, Bobby Cannavale. A bouncer with a slightly murderous anger-management problem that she controls with the help of an electrode-lined vest she uses to shock herself back to normalcy whenever she gets homicidal. After the first guy she’s ever fallen for is murdered, she goes on a revenge-fueled rampage to find the killer while the cops pursue her as their chief suspect.

From the trailers you’d think this was like the movie with Jason Statham (Crank?), but the basic idea is much cooler and makes more sense, and I personally like it more. Not that I didn’t like CRANK. I do appreciate that Kate Beckinsale is still kicking ass at 48, I could never tell if she was playing a character of that age, or of a much younger age. Maybe that’s the point?

I loved the color design, cinatography, and soundtrack, but one thing that distracted from all else was how horrible the ADR is, maybe it’s just my setup, but everyone’s spoken lines were clearly done after the fact and not layered in with the rest of the movie sounds the way I’d expect them to be. Maybe down the road the movie will get a physical release and I can compare audio streams, because Amazone Prime sure as heck only has the one and it’s the normal streaming quality stuff.

    Sweet Girl

Sweet Girl: Directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza. With Jason Momoa, Isabela Merced, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Amy Brenneman. A devastated husband vows to bring justice to the people responsible for his wife’s death while protecting the only family he has left, his daughter.

Another Netflix film that feels like it’s made for TV and not really ready for the big leagues, though I do suggest checking it out to see how well Isabela Merced handles the role that she’s given.
