    The Stuff

The Stuff: Directed by Larry Cohen. With Michael Moriarty, Andrea Marcovicci, Garrett Morris, Paul Sorvino. A delicious, mysterious goo that oozes from the earth is marketed as the newest dessert sensation, but the tasty treat rots more than teeth when zombie-like snackers who only want to consume more of the strange substance at any cost begin infesting the world.

If you’re a fan of Futurama, you might see some pretty fun parallels with The Stuff and Slurm, they’re close enough in concept that there has to be some sort of inspiration there, yeah? This is a great snapshot of 80’s America, with the hair cuts, fashion, political statements, television, it’s a perfect thing to point to when people ask what the 80s were like. Sure we didn’t have The Stuff, but that’s our own hidden shame, isn’t it?

The ADR is pretty rough in the first half of the film, something that I noticed got better as the film went on, and that’s literally my only complaint about how this particular Stuff was made. I do have some questions about why the kid so suspicious of The Stuff, after all, wouldn’t he want to eat some even after he saw it move? It’s The Stuff! Everyone’s talking about how tasty it is and how low in calories it is too, not to mention how cheap it is for something that’s so fullfilling!

To great lines from the film:
“No one’s as stupid as I look like I am”

    and

“Are you eating it or is it eating you?”
