First Day of Being Back In The Office

Star Trek Picard The Dark Veil

A thrilling untold adventure based on the acclaimed Star Trek: Picard TV series!

A perfectly fine Star Trek novel, if you’re interested in the background universe of the Federation immediately before the events of the first Star Trek PIcard novel, this book is a tale of what Riker and his crew on board the Titan were up to right before the Romulan sun went nova (a huge unwarranted change from the established continuity of the shows, but what do I know). I do have a couple minor complaints, as the book opens in the middle of court case, which is normally pretty silly for a science fiction series to do, and it’s about as silly as you’d expect it to be. Turns out the court case leads to one of the better parts of the book though, so I can’t complain too much.

It was only $2 during a recent sale, so if you can catch it for that price, I highly suggest it.

  • Django Unchained

Django Unchained: Directed by Quentin Tarantino. With Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington. With the help of a German bounty-hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation-owner in Mississippi.

I believe this was one of the last films I got through Fandago’s coupon program, where you got $5 Gift Certificates for every X movies you bought tickets for. I don’t think I would otherwise want to own the film, I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s pretty damn intense and I’d have to be in a very specific mood to watch it. It teeters precariously on the fine line between entertainment and preachy revenge fantasy, Everyone in it is just fantastic as they could possibly be, but holy fuck does the N-word get a solid work out.

    Gravity 2013

Gravity: Directed by Alfonso Cuarón. With Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris, Orto Ignatiussen. Two astronauts work together to survive after an accident leaves them stranded in space.

I originally saw this movie with a group of coworkers that all had won some kind contest, I can’t even remember the details of the situation of the time, but I do remember that I was absolutely blown away by the film, but that I was nearly the only one that had a positive opinion of it. Sure, they get a good bit of the science wrong, specifically how gravity works in space, along with inertia and Newton’s laws of motion, but I’m still enamored with the visuals, the acting, and the final 10 minutes of the film STILL keep me nailed to my seat.
