Covid, The Medical System, and HOA Volunteering

It’s been a minute since I’ve written an update on my life and since I’m just got over covid, I figured I’d celebrate being able to breath properly with a new post with words.  I’ve started a new job with the state (a few months ago back in June!) and while I’ve been exposed to a  ton of new people and new things, it wasn’t the job that granted me access to my second covid infection, that came from my wife who brought it back with her from a concert she went to with some family down in Tampa.  She was about 48 hours ahead of me on the infection, so it was pretty gross to watch what was in store for me.  We ended up taking care of each other pretty well though and we’re both back to 100%.  Yay vaccines!

I’ve started a youtube channel for my Star Trek book efforts and after a month off I’m going to be doing more interviews with more authors with a goal of getting an interview up every week.  I need to do the editing the night of the interview, because I’ve found that if I let it slide for a day or two, it ends up being weeks later.  Gross!  My next step is to get a tiktok account running.  Fun!

My next medical adventure is to have a nerve conduction test done on my legs, I’m having some weird numbness.  This process is about as frustrating as it can get though.  I’m told by pretty much everyone that I have some of the best insurance that money can buy, but every time I interact with The System, it makes no sense and no one has any accountability on making it better.  Take for example when I needed to go get labs for this upcoming never test.  I went to labcorp where the lady at the desk says don’t talk to me, talk to the machine.  The machine asks for your driver’s license, scanning the back first, then the first, which is the wrong way to do it, then it says it’ll text you when it’s your time.  That feature doesn’t work though, so the lady behind the desk just yells out your name about 20 or 30 minutes later so you can bring her your lab request.  Why not start with her? The System demands it.  She then takes that sheet, does nothing with it, then tells you to sit back down.  You wait another 30 to 40 minutes, they call you up and try to give you a cup to pee in.  The problem is that I was there just for blood work and not a urinalysis. It’s going to take another indeterminate amount of time for them to figure out what’s going on but you’ve just burned your lunch break, so it’s time to leave.  Complaining to the insurance company is pointless because they have a single contract for labs, and it’s with Labcorp.  Lame.

I’m going to try to figure it all out, but I’m feeling like a 2 hour chewed up piece of gum every time I have to go into The System.

Oh, and I volunteered to join my neighborhood’s HOA board of directors again, that’s going to be an adventure, I’m sure.
