Star Trek: Manifest Destiny

Having an entire issue of the series in Klingon is a neat gimmick, but even as deep as I am into Trek, I still don’t know how to read a single word in the language. “Manifest Destiny” is a Kelvinverse story with a focus on the sorta different looking Klingons that exist separately from the TOS Klingons, which look different than the TOS movie Klingons, which obviously look different than the Discovery Klingons…it’s all one big muddled mess, as result of way too many cooks in the Trek kitchen. The slight visual issues aside, the story by Mike Johnson and Ryan Parrott is great and the artwork by Angel Hernandex and Esther Sanz is fantastic, capturing the action in a believable and eye catching way. Doesn’t hurt that they do a fair number of exterior shots of the spaceship, really warmed my starship loving heart 🙂
If I were to have any complaint, and it’s a minor one, it would be that the resolution of the story feels like it’s been done a million times. Klingons betraying Klingons? Be still my heart!

A beautifully drawn cross generational story of a mysterious signal that is at first discounted by the powers that be, then investigated by a new class at the academy. I enjoyed the resolution, but this was definitely not the story that I thought it would be.
Also, one of the issues has a background character with a cyborg implant that looks EXACTLY like Rutherford from Lower Decks.

“Star Wars: Visions” Season 2 Review
Tags:Star Wars, Television, Television Reviews
> Sith – A former Sith apprentice, leading a peaceful, but isolated life, is confronted by the past when her old master tracks her down.
This one has some really trippy visuals and a great story
> Screecher’s Reach – A young girl, seeking reprieve from her days in a rural workhouse, discovers a legendary haunted cave with her friends. The cave’s dark pull will change the trajectory of her life forever.
ok if somewhat forgettable. what I mean is I forgot about this one.
> In the Stars – Two sisters, the last of their kind who live in hiding on their ravaged land, squabble about how to survive with the Empire encroaching. On a water run, the sisters must fight back when they are discovered.
I love the story of this one, with it’s message of family and love.
> I Am Your Mother – Young pilot Anni, who is embarrassed by her sweet, but clingy mum, must team with her for a madcap family race at the academy. Along the way, their relationship is tested by the elements, their old ship, other racers…and each other.
You remember that stop motion series about a guy and his dog? Wallace and Gromit I believe it was, well this is the same animated style and I love it.
> Journey to the Dark Head – A hopeful mechanic and disillusioned young Jedi team up for a risky and unlikely quest to turn the tide of the galactic war, but dark forces tail them.
Can you destroy the darkness without killing the light? Maybe. But not today.
> The Spy Dancer – The premier dancer at a famous, Imperial-frequented cabaret uses her unique skill-set to spy for the Rebellion, but the presence of a mysterious officer threatens to derail her mission.
Another great concept and delivery, the dancing aspect was unexpected but amazing.
> The Bandits of Golak – Fleeing from their village by train and pursued by ferocious Imperial forces, a boy and his force-sensitive younger sister seek refuge in a vibrant and dangerous dhaba.
Indian Star Wars, which was a revelation and amazing.
> The Pit – A fearless young prisoner, forced to dig for kyber by the Empire, plans a risky escape for he and his people.
No joke, this was one of the darkest episodes on multiple levels.
> Aau’s Song – An alien child who longs to sing is raised by her loving, but stern father to stay quiet because of the calamitous effect her voice has on the crystals in the nearby mines.
A beautiful if frightening end to the season.
