The Taurus Reach. Once the conquered realm of a powerful alien species, this region remains largely shrouded in mystery even as it brims with potential for exploration and colonization. The Federation has sent in two of its finest starships on a quest to uncover the secrets it may yet hold…The

A continuation of the first Seekers book, but with some minor changes in the power levels and temperaments of nearly all the characters. That’s my only complaint though, as the story and its resolution is satisfying and enjoyable.

    The Princess Diarist

When Carrie Fisher discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved – plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Now her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her co-star, Harrison Ford.
With these excerpts from her handwritten notebooks, The Princess Diarist is Fisher’s intimate and revealing recollection of what happened on one of the most famous film sets of all time – and what developed behind the scenes. Fisher also ponders the joys and insanity of celebrity, and the absurdity of a life spawned by Hollywood royalty, only to be surpassed by her own outer-space royalty. Laugh-out-loud hilarious and endlessly quotable, The Princess Diarist brims with the candour and introspection of a diary while offering shrewd insight into the type of stardom that few will ever experience.

One of the worst best kept secrets of the Star Wars behind the scenes world is that Carrie Fisher and and Harrison Ford has a fling during the filming of the first movie. This book is a public admission of the affair, with the genesis of the story being a box of dairies that Fisher kept during that time period. The entire point of the book is this affair, as seen through the eyes of a 19 year old’s dairies, then reflected on by the 60 year old experienced woman that she grew to be. It was released just a few months before her sudden death in 2016 from a suspected drug overdose. There’s other material in the book to pad out the confession, some of the more interesting bits are about her interactions with fans and how even the most crazed fan gets her admiration.

It’s a shame she died how she did, when she did, I think she had more to say about the world she lived in and if she had the time to say it we would have been better for it.

Comic Review for week of July 3rd 2019

A nice wrapup of a series that I came in about halfway for. It could have used some more polish, but what we ended up with was still a fantasticly drawn and scripted book.

I’m really digging this series of unrelated stories that have been released previously by PUBLISHER, but I happened to miss.

I’m also really digging this series of unrelated one shot stories. LOG and BIRD are amazing analogues or Conan.

    Final Issue?

There’s an audio version of this story as well. It’s not my cup of tea, but I love seeing this type of medium flipping.

This story is absolutely bonkers in the best way possible.

The first couple issues of Scrimshaw had me on the fence, but now that they’re moving the story along, I’m digging what they’re putting down.

A time jump didn’t help me feel connected to the story, I barely recognize everyone involved, which is a shame, I was just starting to feel like this was a great story.

First issue of a new mark millar series, with a very strong start.

Remember that Mobster episode from TOS? It’s back, taking some really cool leaps of imagination to make that planet less of a joke.

Chewing and Lando enter into a space race with an unexpected informant. The A story is much better than the B story this time around.

I’m not sure if I’m on board with every backstory for Finn making him out to be a saint amongst sinners, never having to pull the trigger when ordered to kill innocents.

Someone’s put a bounty out on Darth Vader! I bet it was the Emperor!

Franks back in the US and with some IRL message on how he feels about police using his logo while being cops. Spoiler: cops should used The Punisher’s methods or logos.

American Carnage, speaking only as I could about a comic I can’t remember much of even though I read it just last night.

    Lady venom? ok.

STAR WARS AGE OF REPUBLIC GENERAL GRIEVOUS 1 325x500 Comic Review for week of March 13th, 2019
General Grievous never once captured my attention, and this story was just about as boring as all his other outings. They suggest heavily that his cybernetic body was a choice of some sort, but I find that easy to comprehend. It’s not like that body did very well against a single Jedi.

Two Chicagoans die in an unfortunate car wreck.

Q: Two Chicagoans die in an unfortunate car wreck.

    A:

Two Chicagoans die in an unfortunate car wreck.

Tragic, especially considering they didn’t exactly spend their days helping old ladies cross the street or volunteering at the Boys and Girls club. Nope, these fellows went straight to Hades.

The Devil, as is his custom, goes to greet his two newest eternal residents, and despite rivers of lava and torrents of brimstone, they’re standing around in jackets.

“Not hot enough for you?” asked the Devil.

“What, this? Nah, this is like a Spring day in Chicago.”

The Devil doesn’t take lightly to such a slight, so he decides to really turn things up. The renewed eternal hellfire and inferno has made the screams of the tormented souls in hell even louder. Rivers of lava overflowing their banks. The Devil goes to check on his two Chicagoans, and sure enough he sees them lounging in shorts and t-shirts.

“Not hot enough for you?” the devil queries bewilderedly.

“What, this? Nah, this is like a July in Chicago. In fact, I think the humidity was worse in the summer of ’96.”

The Devil is even more incensed. He comes up with a new idea. Turn the thermostat way down. The cursed souls in Hell are greeted by new but equally unbearable type of torture. The lava stops flowing, brimstone stops glowing, and wouldn’t you know it, the ground they stand on has frozen solid.

The Devil again searches out his two Chicagoans, and to his dismay, they’re hugging and cheering.

“What’s this all about!?” the Devil roared.

“THEY’VE DONE IT, IT’S FINALLY HAPPENED, THE CUBS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!”

“I tend to take this latest development as a kind of eager confirmation that they are still apparently dependent on ideas that I had 25 years ago.”

of course, we already knew that he has a bone to pick with the comic book industry on a whole and DC in particular, so it’s no surprise that he’s not rainbows and sunshine about the situation.  My opinion of course, is that this may be one of the worst things, or the best things, to ever happen to DC.  They seem to be struggling to find a clear direction to go in with their properties, something that Marvel/Disney seems to be doing damn well.

A Man Dies And Goes To Hell

A man dies and goes to hell. He is sitting around on a piece of brimstone depressed. The devil walks by and asks him what is wrong.

The man says, “What do you mean what is wrong? I’m dead! I’m in hell! I’m depressed, ok?”

The devil says, “Look we get a lot of bad press down here, things aren’t as bad as they appear. Let me ask you, do you like to eat?”

The man says, “Sure, everyone likes to eat.”

The devil says, “You are going to love Monday’s! Best gourmet food, fast food, anything you want! Eat as much as you want! What’s going to happen? Heart attack? You’re dead already.”

The man says, “Well, that’s not so bad.”

Then the devil asks him, “Do you like to drink? The mans replies, “well, sure.”

The devil says, “You’re going to love Tuesday! Best wine, scotch whiskey, bourbon, anything you want! Drink until you pass out, sober up and drink again. What’s going to happen? Psoriasis of the liver? Your dead, you’re here man!”

Then the devil asks the man, “Do you like to gamble?” the man says, “Well yea, sometimes. “

The devil says, “Wednesdays! You are really going to enjoy Wednesdays! Blackjack, poker, slot machines, anything you want! Bet a million on the horses; lose a million, who cares! You ain’t going bankrupt, you dead! You’re in hell!”

The man is getting pretty excited by now and says, “Man, this is sounding pretty good!”

The devil than ask, “Do you like to do drugs?” The man looks a bit sheepish and says, “Well, sometimes”. The devil says, “Man, Thursdays are your days! Snort cocaine, shoot up heroine, and smoke a joint the size of a submarine, whatever you want! What’s going to happen? You going to overdose and die? You are here already!”

The man is jumping up and down with excitement; “this is like Las Vegas on steroids!” he says!

The devil said, “Yep, told you, we get a lot of bad press down here”.

The devil then asks, “Um, are you gay?”

The man says, “Well, no, I’m not”.

The devil says, “Oh man, you may hate Fridays”.

This is a highly modified CJ-7 strutting its stuff on the ramp. It scored pretty lousy considering the ramp’s leading edge was taller than its tires resulting in a tire lifting as shown. It sports blow-molded tubular chassis, stinger bars, an Optima AA battery, 2.5″ coilovers and 3″ long arms hanging belt-driven spooled axles sporting 0.5″ ring gears and turning the all new BFG Krawler 1.75″ x 1.0″ x 0.75″ tires on 0.75″x1.0″ Weld Racing Rock Crusher rims.
