Snowpiercer
Tags:Fantasy - Science Fiction, Movies
Recently saw this, and damn it had such potential, but there were some pretty serious problems with the story line, and even the basic premise. Of all things, why would you choose to ride on a train after a snowpocalypse? In what universe does a train keep running at 200mph (or more?) for 18 years straight without needing to have an overhaul done on it’s basic mechanical parts?
Was nice to see Chris Evans in a roll that didn’t require him to be shirtless for half the movie (wait, maybe that’s not a good thing?), he really got to show his acting range, which was the high point of the movie. Seen it? whats your opinion?

Jason and Tommy are tasked with delivering the Queen Mum’s famed Fabergé egg collection to a museum in Philadelphia. Only when they get to America, they find the eggs are gone. A team of highly-trained femme fatale art thieves have stolen the case the eggs were transported in, only to discover another team of swine-masked bandits has made off with the actual prize.
These so-called “American birds” aren’t just going to sit back, and let someone else get all the glory and gold. They’re smart. They’re sexy. And now, these birds are angry.
From the creators of God of War (Indie Movie), The Legend of Zelda (1987), and Inglourious Plummers comes the next epic of blockbuster proportions: Angry Birds.

First look at Detroit’s New RoboCop Statue
We talked with the brains behind the Detroit Needs A RoboCop fundraiser, and got an early sneak peek at what this noble statue could look like — and it’s going to have suit details that were never shown on screen. We also learned where it will be placed, how they got the copyrights, and the answer to the most important question of all: mask on or mask off?

Stranded
One day an Irishman, who had been stranded on a deserted island for over 10 years, saw a speck on the horizon.
He thought to himself, “It’s certainly not a ship
As the speck got closer and closer, he began to rule out even the possibilities of a small boat or a raft.
Suddenly there strode from the surf a figure clad in a black wet suit. Putting aside the scuba tanks and mask and zipping down the top of the wet suit stood a drop-dead gorgeous blonde!
She walked up to the stunned Irishman and said to him, “Tell me, how long has it been since you’ve had a good cigar?”
“Ten years,” replied the amazed Irishman
With that, she reached over and unzipped a waterproof pocket on the left sleeve of her wet suit and pulled out a fresh package of cigars and a lighter.
He took a cigar, slowly lit it, and took a long drag. “Faith and begorrah,” said the castaway, “that is so good! I’d almost forgotten how great a smoke can be!”
“And how long has it been since you’ve had a drop of good Bushmill’s Irish Whiskey?” asked the blonde.
Trembling, the castaway replied, “Ten years.”
Hearing that, the blonde reached over to her right sleeve, unzipped a pocket there and removed a flask and handed it to him.
He opened the flask and took a long drink. ” ‘Tis nectar of the gods!” shouted the Irishman. ” ‘Tis truly fantastic!!!”
At this point the gorgeous blonde started to slowly unzip the long front of her wet suit, right down the middle. She looked at the trembling man and asked, “And how long has it been since you played around?”
With tears in his eyes, the Irishman fell to his knees and sobbed, “Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Don’t tell me that you’ve got golf clubs in there too!”

The Joker wins again!

Saturday night saw New Zealand’s first ever inter-league roller derby match-up. Our team’s colours are orange and purple, so after swapping the green shirt for an orange one, I figured the old joker costume would have to get another outing. What I hadn’t counted on was only three other people being in costume, and none of them being quite so obviously “costumes” (two guys had coloured boiler suits and gasmasks on, another had come dressed as one of the skaters).
At half time it was announced there was going to be a competition (I didn’t know that previously, I just like getting dressed up). I was at the other side of the stadium to the others that were in costume, so felt a bit embarrassed and stayed sitting down. Then over the PA comes “There’s a Joker somewhere! Can the Joker please stand up!” Well looks like i’ve been noticed, so I sheepishly got on my feet. The referee skated over and gave me a thumbs up, so I thought I must be in with a chance.
We were sat about four rows from the front, and when I stood up everyone in front of me was cheering and that gave me a bit of a boost. Then I turned around, only to be confronted with the sight of a thousand people behind me, all cheering me on! I was up on my seat in no time, and had the whole stadium cheering me on, which is a new experience I can tell you!
I won of course (a woman’s t-shirt, but hey, what do you expect?) and had to spend the rest of the night posing for photos, official professional type ones, phone-snaps from the crowd, and then all the kids who wanted their photo taken with the joker. My own favourite was with the two IHC kids; the brother stood there terrified rigid, and the girl was shaking like a leaf, so either she was terrified too, or very, very excited!
It wasn’t until much later that my wife (who was dressed in her purple and orange Velma costume) said ‘Do you know what you just did? You just climbed on your chair and got a stadium of a thousand people to cheer you on! Not bad for a bloke who twelve months ago wouldn’t ever leave the house!â€
Oh yeah, there was sport on as well. We got thrashed. 88 – 174.

Very badass comic art.
Choose you Vader…Vader old and new (or is it new and old?)
Whilst it would be all too easy to view this Conceptual Darth Vader Helmet, realised by Kropserkel Design, as a refreshingly modern take on Darth Vader’s Helmet, the somewhat surprising fact is that, though it undoubtedly looks more modern than the original as featured in the cult sci-fi Star Wars films, this work is actually based on Ralph McQuarrie’s original illustrations that subsequently evolved into Vader as we know him today.
Perhaps serving as testament to the widely accepted idea that style and trends tend to repeat themselves in somewhat of a cycle (rather than evolving in a merely linear fashion), were we to place the original Darth Vader Helmet and this conceptual model together and ask which of the two was the more modern design we’ll warrant, with some confidence, that those asked would label this conceptual work as indisputably being a modern interpretation of the original. And, to be fair, who could blame them?
Darth Vader New and Old
Vader old and new (or is it new and old?)
Rather than merely paraphrase the original text concerning this fascinating project here we would urge those interested to stop by the Kropserkel website for further information concerning the realization of Darth Vader as he may have been (its a great read).

Krampus
Every year on the 5th of December, there is this tradition that Austrians and people of other Germanic countries like to follow. Volunteers dress up as what we call, a Krampus [spelled Krampusz] which is also known as the Companions of Saint Nicholas.
“They wear goat-hair costumes and carved masks, carrying bundles of sticks used as switches, and swinging cowbells to warn of their approach. They are typically young men in their teens and early twenties and are generally intoxicated. They roam the streets of small quiet towns and hit people with their switches. It is not considered wise for young women to go out on this night, as they are popular targets.”
In my hometown, they sometimes even force you to get down on your knees and say a prayer.
I think I’m staying home tonight.
Fomalhaut b
Tags:APOD, Science!, Space, Wallpaper
Explanation: Fomalhaut (sounds like “foam-a-lot”) is a bright, young, star, a short 25 light-years from planet Earth in the direction of the constellation Piscis Austrinus. In this sharp composite from the Hubble Space Telescope, Fomalhaut’s surrounding ring of dusty debris is imaged in detail, with overwhelming glare from the star masked by an occulting disk in the camera’s coronagraph. Astronomers now identify, the tiny point of light in the small box at the right as a planet about 3 times the mass of Jupiter orbiting 10.7 billion miles from the star (almost 14 times the Sun-Jupiter distance). Designated Fomalhaut b, the massive planet probably shapes and maintains the ring’s relatively sharp inner edge, while the ring itself is likely a larger, younger analog of our own Kuiper Belt – the solar system’s outer reservoir of icy bodies. The Hubble data represent the first visible-light image of a planet circling another star. .

2081
“Based on the short story Harrison Bergeron by celebrated author Kurt Vonnegut, 2081 depicts a dystopian future in which, everyone is finally equal… The strong wear weights, the beautiful wear masks and the intelligent wear earpieces that fire off loud noises to keep them from taking unfair advantage of their brains”
We had to read this story way back in 8th grade and it was quite disturbing…don’t know how they are going to make it a full length movie but I’ll see it
