    Music, Gaming, Cabinets, and Cats

I saw a band named “The Heebie Jeebies“, I enjoyed myself, it was my first time at that particular brewery, though it’s in the location of an old brewery that I had been to many times prior, so the location wasn’t new, but the owners were. And the band too, they were new to me.

Three adorable cats on my leg and one guy in the background licking his butt.

This cabinet used to be jammed full of spaceships, but it was time for a change, so I filled it with random asian or tiki stuff that i had in various places around the house.  I think it turned out pretty ok.

Nichelle Nichols, ‘Lt. Nyota Uhura’, Dies at 89

Deadline is reporting that Nichelle Nichols has passed at age 89.  She had recently stopped public appearances due to health concerns, so this isn’t a sudden surprise, but it’s still sad news to hear.  In terms of books, she only had one Trek related one to my knowledge: Beyond Uhura – Star Trek and Other Memories.  While she didn’t have a large book catalog, she was responsible for a large number of minorities joining the various STEAM fields and she worked directly with NASA to bring in viable candidates through her company “Women in Motion”, which is close to the name of the documentary about her efforts named “Woman In Motion“, it’s well worth your time if you haven’t seen it yet.

Among her many pursuits was music, here’s one of my favorite tracks:

    Nope

Nope: Directed by Jordan Peele. With Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Brandon Perea, Michael Wincott. The residents of a lonely gulch in inland California bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.

I thought this review was going to be a complaint about how modern trailers are straight up spoiling the movies, but that’s not what I’m here to say. I mean, yes, modern trailers absolutely give away some of the best parts of their films, but in this case, I hesitate to say that’s what happened here, as I think Peele used the normal expectations and tropes against what he actually put in the trailers vs the movie. The film itself is worthy of seeing in the theater so you can get the scale of the thing that is so obviously a UFO/UAP, and get to suitably shit your pants when everything is revealed at the end. I have some complaints, but they’re relatively minor in comparison to how much I liked the rest of the film, but I’d love to compare notes with you after you’ve seen it.
