Obviously they wanted to pivot to this franchise being an anthology, but this mediocre outing didn’t do those plans any favors. There’s a kernel of a good Twight Zone episode here, but I struggle to agree that it should have been a feature film. It’s not a bad film, but neither is is memorable.

I had this series, as well as the Rom relaunch from IDW, from a sale that a local comic shop had before they eventually went out of business (rip). I remember really enjoying the overly sappy series that Marvel did back in the 80s, so I was happy to get the entire IDW Rom series as well as the IDW Revolution series for extremely cheap. I started with the Revolution series and it was perfectly MEH. Nothing too amazing, nothing too world shattering and I’m not sure I could even recommend it, if not for the pure spectacle of mashing together GI Joe, MASK, Transformers, Action Man, Micronauts, and Rom. The story is pure non-sense and the art is again, just perfectly MEH.

I thought about buying one at one point, but I didn’t want to be associated with bombing political buildings to make a political statement.

MCS is no longer on Facebook

Facebook is the worst, bar none.

MCS was on facebook, which might be a surprise to some of you, but content from here was pushed to there to generate a slight pull for visitors, though what it actually did t was sent our content into their walled garden where one or two people would comment on stuff from time to time but never really brought in the masses like I thought it would do.

This post is the one that apparently was a bridge too far for facebook.  Sure, you can click around and find posts about killing people or posts about how minorities don’t deserve the rights they barely have, or you can find pedophiles without much problem, but a grown woman sitting in a chair without clothing on?  AND you can’t see any of her sensitive bits? well that’s straight out of line!  The previous post that they complained about? This mask!

Good riddance to them.  There’s no way to appeal this stupidity, no contact form, no button to press, and no one to contact at Facebook.  They’re a godless, soulless, corporate machine that really doesn’t give a fuck about any of us at all, so fuck ’em.

Birds of Prey And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

Directed by Cathy Yan. With Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell. After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.

A mediocre movie that never found it’s footing, nor did it find a story that actually seemed interesting other than “Harley is a complete fuck up”. It’s a shame because I love Harley as a character, and I love Margot Robbie as an actress and I love all the other actresses and actors in the film, but there’s just not much to work with here. I should point out that DC is continuing their habit of taking well known characters and changing them so much that they’re nearly unrecognizable. Harley herself was the first example of this from Suicide Squad, but in a rare happenstance, that actually worked out for the better, as the more minimalistic costume worked better for the silver screen than the big harley helmet would have. The same cannot be said for Black Mask, Rene Montoya, Black Canary, or Cassandra Cain. Again, I love the work that they’ve done, but in every case, they were miscast or playing characters that were only barely recognizable as their comic book counter parts, Cassandra Cain being the worst case of this. In the comics, she’s a mute assassin, trained by her father to murder from the time she was a toddler. In this movie, she’s a kid in the foster system that’s pick pocketing random people on the hard streets of Gotham, sans back story. To mention the name of the movie itself: “Birds of Prey” is a group of do gooders that are led by Oracle, who was previously Batgirl before she was shot through her spine by The Joker.

The one saving grace of “Birds of Prey” is that it gives me an opportunity to tell you about the much higher quality and more better well written “Harley Quinn” cartoon series that’s on right now. Skip the movie and watch the TV show.

Why would anyone do this to a lime?? I have to give the guy credit, not only was he wearing a suit of armor, it was illuminated as well. I used Topaz Adjust’s Dark Rose filter to add some murkiness to the image. I masked out all the green so that color shone through the brightest and clearest.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010

Freddy’s back in the update of Wes Craven’s classic tales of the hideously disfigured dream-stalker and his prey.

A few big name actresses here, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, and Connie Britton, all of whom are big enough stars that I expected they would survive the movie, but I guess I should have known better, normally the survival rates for a Nightmare flick is 1 or 2, maybe 4 if you’re dream warriors. I’m a big fan of what Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Human Target) did with the Freddy role, which is comparable to Robert Englund’s first outing. The special effects on his face were downright creepy, unlike the previous film where it was a rubber mask with no gore or horror to it at all.

This was a good Nightmare film, but I’m happy the franchise is inactive, it’s a difficult well to go back to again and again.

2018-04 Previews Order

This is the first time I’ve done an official previews order for comic books, where I went through their entire catelog of bullshit they’re selling and pick out what I’m interested in and give it to the local comic shop (LCS), who adds it all to a spread sheet, then manually go through the Diamond website and orders all the shit.  It’s one of the most backwards ass systems that I’ve personally used.  There’s talk about a modernized system coming “soon” where you just log into the Previews site and select what you want, then 60 days later it shows up at your LCS, but who knows when and if that system will ever be delivered.

Since I’m all about generating content for my sites, I’m going to be posting my orders to www.myconfinedspace.com www.comiccovers.com and www.comic-images.com along with some comments on why I’m reading it or perhaps even making fun of the cover.

These comics are due to be delivered to Local Comic Shops in June.

Friday The 13th Part 7 The New Blood review

Ever since homicidal maniac Jason Voorhees got trapped in chains at the bottom of Crystal Lake, the nearby summer camp has operated without a hitch… without a murder. But one of this season’s happy campers has brought along a deadly secret.

So did Tommy kill Jason or not? Seems strange that he’d be content with leaving Jason’s body tied to a rock in the bottom of a lake, why not come back later on with some industrial strength equipment to dredge him up and mulch the body?

The inclusion of a woman with superpowers felt weird, but since Jason is starting to be a supernatural freakshow, i guess she fits in now. I’m not a fan of him losing the mask half way through the third act though, I’m not here for mutant faces, I’m here for hockey masks.

Friday the 13th Part VIII Jason Takes Manhattan review

A passing boat bound for New York pulls Jason along for the ride. Look out New York, here comes hell in a hockey mask.

I like the idea of people being stuck on a boat with Jason, really drives home the idea that you have no where to run to. There was a clear split between the boat scenes and the Manhattan scenes, they even felt like they were directed by different directors. I found it curious that the lead character was doped up with some heroine, then spent the rest of the movie out right sprinting. Isn’t that stuff supposed to slow you down a bit?

I also laughed out loud audiably when she found a bucked named “toxic sludge” while down in the sewers, not even 2 minutes after the random city worker said they flush out the tunnels with toxic sludge every night at midnight, which begs all sorts of questions about what exactly is going on beneath the streets and why he was down there 10 minutes before the nightly flushing.

Also, did they just leave that kid down there?
