Starship Troopers: Directed by Paul Verhoeven. With Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey. Humans in a fascist, militaristic future wage war with giant alien bugs.

This is for the 4k transfer that was recently released in a classy looking Steelbook case, which I found on the Amazon. The case is worth the premium for physical collectors, the inside and outside have eye catching artwork and the discs have some cool visuals too. It’s a rarity to see these for sale anywhere other than Best Buy these days, so I was super happy to see it on Jeffery’s website. I’ve been putting off buying the 4k version of the film for a while because with how much I love the film, I didn’t want to see what kind of transfer they had deemed it worthy of, especially in light of how movies Spaceballs have been mistreated in terms of transfer quality. For the most part my concerns were unfounded, but the first third of the film suffers from some pretty noticeable film grain. It’s not present in every scene or even in every shot of the same scenes, so it had to have been something to do with what types of film they had shot those portions on.

I was happy to see that the miniature and space based stuff was beautifully transferred. In fact, every scene with spaceships in it looked so good that I have a sneaking suspicious that they were remastered as well as being transferred to 4k / hdr.

Entirely way too short, this is a collection of six tangentially related short stories that are all under 20 minutes in length, with quality ranging from “ok” to “oh my”.

Obviously I’m head over heels about seeing Ahsoka on screen again, if you like the character as much as I do, you should check these out.
