A Teacher

A super heavy mini series that I honestly believe would be best consumed all at once. It all starts out hot and heavy, but then reality quickly kicks it’s way into the story and everything goes about as well as you would expect it to.
Good, but god damn emotional.

Karl Lewis: To be fair: Junior is so freaking coked up at this point, I think he should just get some credit for knowing that Texas even HAS a Governor. I mean, he’s probably snorted his own body weight in Bolivian Marching Powder just since January 20th. That he can even still feel his own thumbs, or even find his phone, is more than a little amazing.

Mage Against the Machine
The year is 2120. The humans are dead. The mages have retreated from the world after a madman blew up civilization with weaponized magical technology. Safe within domes that protect them from the nuclear wasteland on the other side, the mages have spent the last century putting their lives back together.
Nikolai is obsessed with artifacts from twentieth-century human life: mage-crafted replica Chuck Taylors on his feet, Schwarzenegger posters on his walls, Beatlemania still alive and well in his head. But he’s also tasked with a higher calling—to maintain the Veils that protect mage-kind from the hazards of the wastes beyond. As a cadet in the Mage King’s army, Nik has finally found what he always wanted—a purpose. But when confronted by one of his former instructors gone rogue, Nik tumbles into a dark secret. The humans weren’t nuked into oblivion—they’re still alive. Not only that, outside the domes a war rages between the last enclaves of free humans and vast machine intelligences.
Outside the dome, unprepared and on the run, Nik finds Jem. Jem is a Runner for the Human Resistance. A ballerina-turned-soldier by the circumstances of war, Jem is more than just a human—her cybernetic enhancement mods make her faster, smarter, and are the only things that give her a fighting chance against the artificial beings bent on humanity’s eradication.
Now Nik faces an impossible decision: side with the mages and let humanity die out? Or stand with Jem and the humans—and risk endangering everything he knows and loves?
This has been on my wishlist since it came out, it’s finally down to just $2 on amazon. I’m likely going to read this one next since I only have like 300 other books on my kindle waiting to be read!

fatherdougal: Plot twist: The one on the left has the brain of a fish and will probably try to bite your dick off should you attempt to engage in fellatio. The one on the right has a human brain and is a wonderful conversationalist and nymphomaniac. Who do you pick now?
Bolthorn: “I’m going to purposefully pose a danger to myself and others because I don’t know how viruses work.” The one lady talking about how she never got the flu. Bitch, me either but that doesn’t mean I also think I’m immune to AIDS.

Bolthorn: “The government is going to put cameras everywhere and monitor us.” Well, you got the second part right but you paid for and installed the surveillance system for them. Soon the “participating residents” will be part of the EULA that comes with these things and you won’t be able to opt out. Even paranoid QAnon co-worker has one of these Ring doorbells and I can’t believe the cognitive dissonance he spins trying to explain how this is different than if the cops installed cameras on the streetlight outside his house. Folks, if you want a CCTV system for your home (exterior or interior of the house), fine, but make sure it’s on an internal network that can’t reach out to the internet. Otherwise someone will find a way in if they really want to.
