Trivia
I’m building a trivia site, and looking for some people to add some trivia, comment here if you’re interested.
edit:
not exactly a troll for those of you calling it, I’ve had it for years now and never done anything with it. What I’ll do is create a google form for random people to add trivia to, give you the view permissions on the result spreadsheet with a nice summary page, and then we can hammer out like 20,000 questions or some shit. I need a quick/easy way to add trivia to a spreadsheet myself, cause with the amount of TV I’m watching, I should be able to add like 20-50 questions a night myself just from Star Trek / Buffy / Firefly / BSG / porn.
Super edit:
Here’s the form to submit trivia to.
and here’s the results, where I’ve already seeded it with a few questions.
I’ll make it much cleaner soon, maybe even embed the stupid thing into a page on mcs and on trivia tiki. Oh, and convert all the questions that are already on the site to this spreadsheet to be later imported into the awesome new site that’s going to come out. maybe.
Return of the Jedi – deleted scene
Tags:Movies, Star Wars, Star Wars: Episode 6: Return of the Jedi
“This is from a deleted scene from ROTJ, where Moff Jerjerrod, the commander of the Death Star is ordered by Palpatine to fire upon Endor if the shield generator would be destroyed; but he is reluctant to do so because of all the Imperial troops still on the planet.
Apparently in this scene Moff Jerjerrod has been ordered by the Emperor to bar Darth Vader from entering the throne room. Apart from Vaders routine force choking, we get to see the Imperial Guards brandish their Force pikes instead of just standing like statues which is cool.”

“The Tandoc Tools Ringpop will put the smack down on a beeyotch with a resolute finality that bears great responsibility. A steep chisel grind will not need additional sharpening to make it the most destructive thing you have ever owned outside of a properly applied firearm or a drunken spin in the kaddylak. Walk the dark streets safely knowing you too are a criminal, for carrying or using this type of thing is almost universally illegal, unless you are a law enforcement agent or a soldier at war! Imbued with the unique Tandoc Tools Chi Bubble™ system of personal protection, this tool should protect you fully against any and all hexes, curses, bad luck, or evil that you should encounter, unless it is really bad and then it is all up to you anyways, Jedi. Built for discreet pocket employment this blocky bastard is made from 3/8” thick, heat treated O1 tool steel.”

Post-Star Wars knockoff that I distinctly remember being a lot of fun. Even the ridiculousness (a 3-masted sailing spaceship?) was leavened by a pretty decent story, Kurosawa homages, bare-knuckle Godzilla-era model & fireworks FX –no optical printing here– including weirdly prescient separating ships, tunnel chases & plummeting villain deaths…not to mention scenery-chewing performances from everybody (and yes, that’s Vic Morrow.) Because Japan. Recommended.

Made not born
[blockquote]On the morning of May 18, Kehoe first killed his wife and then set his farm buildings on fire. As fire fighters arrived at the farm, an explosion devastated the north wing of the school building, killing many of the people inside. Kehoe used a detonator to ignite dynamite and hundreds of pounds of pyrotol which he had secretly planted inside the school over the course of many months. As rescuers started gathering at the school, Kehoe drove up, stopped, and detonated a bomb inside his shrapnel-filled vehicle, killing himself and the school superintendent, as well as killing and injuring several others. During the rescue efforts, searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded dynamite and pyrotol planted throughout the basement of the school’s south wing.
After the bombings investigators found a wooden sign wired to the farm’s fence with Kehoe’s last message, “CRIMINALS ARE MADE, NOT BORN,” written on it.[/blockquote]

Black as Hell planet
Tags:Astronomy, Awesome Things, Planets, Science!
“The planet orbits the star in a so-called “torch orbit”. One revolution around the star takes only a little less than three Earth days to complete…The temperature of the planet was initially estimated on the basis of 0.3 Bond albedo to be about 1540 K…Its day-side brightness temperature was subsequently directly measured as 2,300 ± 200 K…This is around the boiling point of silicon and well above the melting point of iron.
This planet’s albedo has not been measured directly. The initial estimate of 0.3 had come from averaging Sudarsky’s theoretical classes IV and V. The planet’s extremely high temperature has forced astronomers to abandon that estimate; now, they predict that the planet must absorb essentially all of the starlight that falls on it — that is, effectively zero albedo…Much of the absorption takes place at the top of its atmosphere.
The outer shell of dark, opaque, hot clouds are usually thought to be vanadium and titanium oxides (“pM planets”), but other compounds like tholins cannot be ruled out as yet.
It may have an exceptionally large core composed of elements heavier than hydrogen and helium…the initial theoretical models gave the core a mass of 70 times Earth’s mass; further refinements suggest 80-110 Earth masses. As a result, the planet has been described as a “super-Neptune”, in analogy to the core-dominated outer ice giants of our solar system, though whether the core of HD 149026 b is mainly icy or rocky is not currently known. Robert Naeye in Sky & Telescope claimed “it contains as much or more heavy elements (elements heavier than hydrogen and helium) than all the planets and asteroids in our solar system combined”.”

screencrush.com/iron-man-3-bringing-back-the-ten-rings-terrorist-squad-what-about-mandarin/
When I first heard that the Mandarin was going to be in IM3, my first thought was “how are they gonna do the rings?” They ruled out the magic/alien tech from the comics origin, so I imagined that each was a mini arc reactor, created by the Chinese or somesuch in an attempt to reverse engineer/replicate Stark’s (senior’s or junior’s) work, and the result was a bunch of rings, each with different powers they weren’t originally designed to have, but useful all the same –especially in the hands of a terrorist who steals them & learns how to properly wield them.
Free internets for me if I turn out to be right…unfortunately, there’s also the distinct possibility that they’re just powerless trinkets/junk that he wears symbolically. That’d blow.

Disappointed In Halo 4? You’re Not Alone!
Tags:Gaming, Halo, Interesting, Sad :(
I’m bitter about how much of a let down Halo 4 has been so far.
- Not much to talk about with music, it’s all generic, non-halo sounding.
- The standard assault rifle sounds off.
- The warthog sounds off.
- The warthog handled like shit, which is saying something, cause the original warthog was pretty loose with it’s steering. Now it feels like I’m ice skating with bowling balls.
- The story is horrible so far, half the time I feel like I have no clue what’s going on, and this is 5 hours in! They keep dropping names like they’re supposed to mean something (“oh the didect must be stopped or else the Librarian will awaken the construct”). I’m a pretty big Halo reader, and I know who all those people are in the expanded universe, but holy crap.
- Maybe Halo has the reverse problem of the Star Trek movies, where with Halo, all the evenly named ones suck monkey dick?
A gift for the TOS fans

Totally forgot, but today is MCS’s birthday … sorta.

Forums are less shitty right now; plus, return of the top 10 page and tags on all submitted posts!
Howdy bitches: I’ve cleaned up the forums a little bit from the friggin spam, going to try to figure out a moderation system, I’m thinking that the same moderators for the (future) mcs will also have some forum stuff to do as well.
Part of my “get off my ass” process has also been to re-add the “top ten” page, which includes some rather interesting stuff on it.
I’ve also added a tag cloud to every single page so you can click on tags.
And the last item is also tag related, all submitted posts require a tag of some sort, with a list of suggested / top used tags.
So other then these awesome things, how’s your night going? I picked up Volume 8 of the Walking Dead, haven’t started it yet, but golly it looks good.
Also, I bought the first two trades of Super Dinosaur, written by the same guy, but it’s not walking zombie people, it’s a dinosaur in an exoskeleton:

Snake vore
Ever had one of those internet afternoons where you saw something fucked up, clicked a link to see if such a thing could have a following…and just kept on clicking?
I blew five straight hours like this yesterday and the whole thing started with a single word: “vore”.
This is one of about a dozen or so images I harvested in the meantime.
LeRoy Nieman – 6/8/21 – 6/20/12
Probably had a print of his work in every dentists office in America during the 70s (that, and a childhood-friend’s family had an original hanging in their living room.)
I liked the kinetic palette-knife technique and –sometimes– the color-ific-ness…but I also could’ve done without the kitch, limited subject matter, and lifelong poseurism/starfucking.

I think Ron Lim started drawing him that way…gives him that extra layer of arrogance/condescension/mania. Hope they keep it for the future Avengers flick(s).
