  • The Final Countdown

The Final Countdown: Directed by Don Taylor. With Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen, Katharine Ross, James Farentino. A modern aircraft carrier is thrown back in time to 1941 near Hawaii, just hours before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

This has been on my watch list since it came out in 1980, but I never got around to watching it for various reasons (or maybe I did and I’ve just forgotten?), but watching it now, I realize that it’s just a tease of a better film, but set to some exceptionally patriotic backdrops of a 1980’s aircraft carrier and some pretty great aeronautic shots. There’s a whole list of great actors here, so it’s not a terrible film, but they bring the story so close to being amazing, then oh look at the time, I’ll tell you later.
