The Elephant Queen
A story of an elephant group that starts out with a significant amount of childish whimsical story points, but then goes on to straight up pull the tears from your face. It’s well shot and looks beautiful on apple TV, but bring some tissues to wipe away your sadness.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen this, I almost though I had the wrong disk in my player when it started. It’s still a fun but problematic movie.
Powers of X
A well written story with art that impressed, I’m sad to see this is just yet another entry in the ongoing mythos and not a self contained storyline, there’s a lot of threads here that I’d be interested in seeing what their logical conclusion would be, and not what their ‘ongoing so we’re never going to actually resolve it’ storylines are going to end up being.

I went to Sonic Burger before hand, because if I was going to have to sit through yet another failure of a video game adaptation to the movie format, I might as well have a delicious Sonic Burger in my belly. I had a Diet Coke during dinner, which definitely quenched my thirst and gave me a slight energy boost from the 42 mg of caffeine, which I was sure I would need to stay away during what I expected to be a slog of heavy handed video game references.
Turns out though, I didn’t need that energy boost, Sonic: The Movie starts off fast and never lets off the peddle, with a story that felt genuine and never felt overly pandering to the fans of a franchise that frankly needed something that would reward them for decades of aimless wandering. The only complaint that I could possibly make is that the product placement is way over the top. In fact, there’s one for Zillow in the movie that’s so over the top I straight up laughed at it for a good 30 seconds after the bit was done.
This was a good film to watch in the theater!

An amazing start to a series that quickly lost me, I loved the first dozen issues, but they seemed to never figure out where they were going with the story.
Luckily I picked these up in a 3/$1 bin, so not much was lost.
Champions Change the World
Not just vol 1, but I read the entire run.
The art was pretty solid throughout, but the story was a mess, with nearly every issue ping ponging around to the middle of events happening in other series. In fact, I think all the major character development happened in the main line spider-man or avengers books, or even the universe wide cross over mini series.
I suggest completely skipping the collection of this run. From my understanding the next run that started publishing in 2019 stays on track much better.

A British TV Mini-Series from last year, this is the best adaptation of the original story that I’ve ever seen, and yes I’m including the American-centric version that Tom Cruise starred in back in 2005.

Hustlers
Strippers turn to the dark side and start running some schemes that hurt everyone they come into contact with. A well acted film with a premise that’s completely pedestrian. An easy watch if you’re into such things.
Age of Ultron
A fun time traveling story with murder, self murder, killing your past self in the future, then killing furture self in the past when you travel to the savage land.
it’s a great story till the time travel starts, then it get wonky, but still a great story to read.

You ever watch a series, get half way through an episode, and get a distinct impression that you’re watching the final episode of the entire thing? That happened to me, and it was sad. I started watching this show on a lark, was happy with the humor and songs and constant character growth, and stayed on board because it continued to be great. There was a time that I would mention the show to friends, but with the advent of the toxic brony fandom, I stopped doing that, but if you’re able to watch it for what it is, a show about friends learning lessons and keeping that knowledge in future episodes, set to song, and accompanied by Q from Star Trek.

John Carter The End
Tags:Book Reviews, Comic Books, Comic Covers, John Carter of Mars
Introducing a John Carter story like you’ve never seen before, from co-writers Brian Wood (Star Wars, DMZ, Northlanders) and Alex Cox (Adventure Time), joined by artist Hayden Sherman (Civil War II: Kingpin).
Reviews:
“Hayden Sherman does a great job… It is primitive and powerful. Each panel looks dangerous, like you could be sliced to ribbons by the cliff faces.” – Comic Crusaders
“It never occurred to me that John Carter and Batman would have much in common, but I hadn’t read John Carter: The End yet.” – Slack Jaw Punks
“A perfect continuation for the stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs and the characters of Barsoom. This should please, delight and thrill old and new fans alike.” – Outright Geekery
I’ve been getting more and more interested in the John Carter mythos, first introduced to me by the Disney movie, and this was my first purchase of Carter comics that I’ve been able to get around to reading. I have the adaptation around my office somewhere, just need to dig it out and read it.
I realize that starting with a series named “The End” was likely a bad idea, but there wasn’t anything here that was confusing, and the issues were only $1 each during the annual MidTown sale.
Here’s the book that I was most impressed with it’s cover: leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/4679913/john-carter-the-end-3?variant=8038692

I like the concept but from the publication schedule of this series, it looks like we’re only going to get the four issues that are already published. This is a post apocalyptic story that has some cool story beats, but it just sorta ends with a goofy ass cliffhanger in the fourth issue and it’s been 4 months since that came out.
I’ve noticed this with a few Image series and it’s worrying.
