    The Batman

The Batman: Directed by Matt Reeves. With Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell. When a sadistic serial killer begins murdering key political figures in Gotham, Batman is forced to investigate the city’s hidden corruption and question his family’s involvement.

I still feel that the first half of this movie is a complete snooze fest and the soundtrack, specifically the hero track, is overly repetitive and annoying as all get out. Also, everything about the Riddler made me loose interest in the move every time they were talking about his stupid rhymes, jokes, or holiday cards. In fact, I think you could rip the entire Riddler portion of the movie out and still have a pretty ok film with just the Penguin / Wayne / Arkham storyline.

Which brings me to what I did like, which was everything related to the Penguin, Catwoman, the family shenanigans, and even Batman himself. It would have been easy to go to far into the brooding “barely out of his teens” Batman first earning the ropes, but Robert Pattinson did a surprisingly good job as the character, same with Colin Farrell as Penquin and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, both of whom are now my favorite versions of those characters. Additionally, I’m a huge Batmobile nerd and this version of the car really does it for me, it’s the appearance of this suped up car that’s when I feel the movie really starts to kick, though that’s about an hour in.

    Reality

Reality: Directed by Tina Satter. With Sydney Sweeney, Josh Hamilton, Marchánt Davis, Benny Elledge. A former American intelligence specialist was given the longest sentence for the unauthorized release of government information to the media about Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections via an email operation.

Surprising to me: this is a verbatim script from the initial interview with the FBI and Reality Winner, a heroic whistle blower that in 2017 sent information to The Intercept about Russian interference in the 2016 election that at the time was considered classified. Turns out that the information wouldn’t be classified for very long with many congress critters sharing the same information right after her arrest. She ended up serving over 4 years for her patriotic act, the longest that anyone has ever served for this type of crime. The newspaper that she sent the paper to was the reason that she was ultimately arrested due to their completely unprofessional and incompetent handling of the leak, but they’ve not suffered much publicly from this incredible misstep.

Not surprising to me: Sydney Sweeney. For a woman that came to prominence in a row showing off her body and playing a blonde bombshell teenager, she’s really shown in several roles in the last few years that she’s a serious and capable actress and she’s now at the top of the list of actresses I’d watch them in nearly anything.
