New Star Trek Book: “Star Trek: The Original Series: Identity Theft”
Star Trek: The Original Series: Identity Theft by Greg Cox has been added to the Star Trek Book Club! There’s no official cover yet, so keep an eye on the book page for updates!
This all-new Star Trek novel celebrates the 60th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series—continuing the legacy of Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise.
2269: The prospect of peace had seemed unattainable until the assistance of the Federation. Finally, countless ancient enemies have stopped their conflicts simply by listening to one another. On the planet Voyzr, Captain James T. Kirk and his crew aided the planet to realize peace.
2289: Invited to celebrate twenty years of peace, the crew of the USS Enterprise-A is returning to Voyzr as honored guests. Security Chief Pavel Chekov remembers his visit to the planet as a green ensign. He has always believed the negotiations were too easy, and he wondered if there are people on the planet who still long for war—and have been waiting for just the right moment to upend the peace. Unfortunately, Chekov discovers he is right when he finds himself in the middle of a dangerous ploy.
The book is currently scheduled to be published on November 18, 2025

“A Family Affair” Review

This was the late night movie that I settled on to close out our lazy snow day and it turned out to be much more than I was expecting from everyone involved. The story is much more nuanced, the characters much more believable, and the situations all less sitcom / soap opera than Netflix is known for.

This was the first movie we watched after the apocalyptic snow storm here in Florida, we received well over 2 inches of snow! It promptly sorta melted, then turned into ice and now it’s unsafe to drive on and we have icicles.
“Skeleton Crew” Review

This is, my far, the best Star Wars content to come out since the last time I said this, which admittedly is pretty often with things like The Mandalorian and Andor in the mix. Skeleton Crew is an entirely perfect mix of Goonies, The Pirates of the Carribean, and Rogue One. There’s kids lost on an adventure of their own accidental choosing, there’s pirates hungry for loot, there’s some fantastic Star Wars world building happening in the background, and the entire series is just plain fun. There wasn’t a single stinker episode in the whole lot, and by golly I’m sure we’re going to be seeing more of all these characters (and their actors!) in the near future.

Eleven issues of a story that starts off with a high adrenaline situation and never lets up from the gas. The art is incredible, the story is rich, and it ended in an extremely satisfying way. I’d love to see more work from this team, either in the same universe filled with space leviathans chasing space truckers that have their bratty but extremely lucky kids with them, or in a new universe filled with just as interesting concepts.
The entire story is in two TPBs and is out now, so if you like space stories as much as I do, this is one that should be on your list.
Review: “Late Star Trek: The Final Frontier in the Franchise Era”
Tags:Book Reviews, Books, Star Trek
This is much more academic than I’m used to reading, especially when I’m reading Star Trek content, which is normally easy breezy stuff that doesn’t challenge or surprise all too much. In this case though, author Adam Kotsko presents a fantastic look at an intersection of my personal interests in Reddit, Star Trek, Treklit, and overthinking things way too much. It’s well done and there’s a point where Adam asks “Did the novelverse really need to die for this?” and boy howdy I felt that in my soul. There’s been just as many misses as there have been hits since they trimmed off that particular universe and while I understand it had to happen, I’m still not happy with most of the story decisions that were made with the characters I was in love with in the books.
We still have the books (and the all mighty Treklit reading order chart to make sense of it all), so maybe one day I’ll go back through and re-read them all in order. What a crazy undertaking that would be!
