Marjorie Taylor Greene spent $100K for Kevin McCarthy’s chapstick

The chapstick came with an in-district visit with McCarthy, “who we all think is doing a great job,” Greene said.

  • Power & Glory (1994)

Written and created by Howard Chaykin. A crime fighter is genetically engineered to be a super-hero – but when the test goes awry and he doesn’t have the super-hero qualities needed, he has to be teamed up with a former CIA agent who is the brains behind the duo. One gets all the glory while one has all the power.

I picked up this mini series from the dollar bin at a local shop because I’m interested in super hero stories from defunct companies and universes. The Malibu publisher’s mark interested me, but I should have paid more attention to the “Bravura” mark, as this isn’t an Ultraverse story and is set off on it’s own universe and boy howdy did this book not age well in the nearly 20 years since it’s publication. It’s fill with painfully racist, sexist, and bigoted language and trope, has a story that works well enough, and amazing art, but I can’t get past the negative portions of the book to even remotely recommend it to anyone.

    Evil Dead Rise

Evil Dead Rise: Directed by Lee Cronin. With Mirabai Pease, Richard Crouchley, Anna-Maree Thomas, Lily Sullivan. A twisted tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

This is the first Evil Dead movie that I’ve seen that wasn’t by Sam Rami, but Lee Cronin captured a few of Rami’s old tricks so well that I had to look it up to be sure. I skipped the previous film in the franchise, which was apparently fine, as there’s no connection between the two, The story is nice and small with only about 9 people in total in the film, not counting the spooky voices on the record player. The tone of the film is right in line with all the other Evil Dead flicks, but I do dearly miss the cheesy that Bruce Campbell would bring to the screen, as there are no real humorous parts to this one, just gore, horror, and more gore.
